How To Connect Your Sony Camera To Your Smartphone: Sony Imaging Edge

Check out how to connect your Sony camera to your smartphone using the Sony Imaging Edge app.
I detail why this is useful for a few reasons:
1. For social media. You can send files straight to the phone to post
2. To use your phone as monitor. Especially useful on the A7iii
3. To use it as a remote. Great for group selfies.

Yes you can totally do that. I used to used this with a hacked gimbal solution I had where I couldn't see the screen. As I mentioned in the video, it's basic monitoring with no meters or histogram. However it works great for overall composition.

Hey thanks for watching. The A6500 is a little older camera so all the functions of the Imaging Edge App may not work. You can see the full list of features here: support.d-imaging.sony.co.jp/www/cscs/pmm/products.php?area=gb&lang=en. Per the Sony site: "Ctrl with Smartphone To use the function, the latest version of Smart Remote Control of PlayMemories Camera Apps needs to be installed. > PlayMemories Camera Apps" So looks like you'd need to use the Playmemories App for that specific feature.

Why does it work on KZbin, but doesn't work for me. I tried so many time to transfer photos from my Sony 6300 to my Samsung S23 Ultra. It keeps giving me an error that the connection failed and I need to connect to new phone, which I already did. Then the wifi Hotspot doesn't have internet connection. What am I doing wrong?

Not sure without seeing the actual camera. However you don't need an internet connection when you're connected to the camera's wifi. You'll only use it to transfer photos. Also if you have a VPN service active that may interfere with the app.

Hi thanks for watching. You don’t need an internet connection to use the app. The wifi is broadcast from camera, so it kind of works like how you would connect Bluetooth headphones to a smartphone. So answer your question: yes you could use it in that situation. Hope that answers your question.

Hey thanks for watching. Maybe try going into your phone settings and manually connecting to the wife network. If that doesn't work, I'd 'forget that network' of the camera and then try reconnecting again in the app from scratch.

However every once it a while you may have trouble connecting and have to do the entire process over to get things to work. At least it was like that with some of the older cameras. Oh, you don't have to join the wifi first in the settings? I was entering the password twice. There's no qr code. I don't see shutter, aperture, and iso control on the iphone for the a6000. Also it makes 2 different camera entries, one for the remote control, and one for "send to smartphone".

Thanks for watching. This sometimes happens to me as well. I do either one of two things. Try to connect to the camera's wifi directly from your phone's wifi settings. Or in some instances I set the camera up in the app as new all over again. To do that: go to 'Settings' in the top right hand corner of the app > camera list > edit. Delete the camera and then set it up like new again, and it should connect.

Hey thanks for watching. there's kind of a work around for that. Under that same "Network" folder there's an option for "Snd to Smrtphn Func". Select that then "Send to Smartphone" > "Select on Smartphone" Once you connect the phone to the camera, you can view the imagea from the camera on the phone and you don't have to transfer them. Hope that helps.

I'm having really a bad experience with this app it works really slow plus tooo many errors when connecting i have to disconnect the wifi Bluetooth everything then connect again and if i tried to use the remote control while I'm in manual mode in the camera it always says connect unsuccessful. even how to foucs ?? man i really need an app for my sony a7r iv to take videos and pictures with the remote and advice on a better function app ? because this is giving me a heart attack

Not sure what’s going on with your app. But it’s definitely not perfect at times. My only recommendation is double check that the app and the camera’s firmware is the latest version.

When displaying the remote functionaly on the phone, I don't have "apperature" or "shutter speed" options available.. The only paramater that i can change through the phone screen is EV ... I am on sony a6500? Any Idea was is this happening? (phone galaxy s8)

I'm not 100% sure, the menus are slightly different on the a6500. I know the "DISP" button in the app should pull up different options.
