I dunno what I said I think I mostly gushed about Minor Threat (hadn’t yet understood Fugazi) and he wrote me back within a week (I live in Maryland), typed with a typewriter, on the back of a Polaroid of Fugazi playing one of their last shows. Ian MacKaye rules, so earnest and endearing

That is absolutely not the message he passes forward, the way he lives is definitely healthy and good for anyone's body and mind so of course he tries to emanate that knowledge to people, but he actually does it in a very welcoming way. I'll never be straight edge for example simply because i don't want to, but i won't lie that it's a much healthier and better way to live. I assume either you don't talk to a lot of people or is lucky enough to never have had contact with someone who tries to propagate an ideology agressively
