12:31 The moment Weasel bites Phosphorus's arm reveals a deeper connection to his humanity, as his eyes briefly shift back to their original weasel form. This change hints at something inherently human within him, especially as he recalls a little girl in the princess and instinctively tries to warn her. I hope that they give more backstory to characters that still have it; maybe not GI Robot, but the Bride has a long history here. And we might learn more about Weasel, possibly Phosphorus as well potentially… But we also have three new members who can get this. Speaking of backstory, it’s especially clever how he gave Eric’s flashback right after he and Rick Flag Snr. teamed up; we needed to recognise that he’s not a good person no matter how fun he is. We can have fun with such a childishly amoral character, but he’s still a horrible person; plus, it happened right after the Bride and Weasel’s tragedies, and right before Phosphorus (whose tragedy at least makes him understandable if not justified for his murderous history) and especially Nina who was the most good of them all.

I feel a lot of people are decrying that Nina didn't have a badass moment, but I think that is the point of her character. Every other member of the squad (except maybe Weasel. explicitly including Waller and Flag) has accepted their 'monstrous' behavior as an acceptable part of their otherness, what makes them different from 'normal' people. For Waller, she relishes in her ruthless amoral behavior as a 'necessity' to protect the people who would condemn her (this applies to a lesser extent to Flag, who condemns his own checkered military career even disregarding it inspired his son.) The Bride is a nihilist, everyone has abused her and used her (the reference to "Mathilda" implies she has realized Victor was a groomer) and so, she reacts with indifference, unwilling to try NOT being a monster because regular people aren't any better. Phosphorus has passed though the other side to hedonism, he embraces his monstrosity because otherwise he would have to confront the horror of his trauma (remember the dance scene that flickered between the pimp outfit and his wedding?) While I initially thought that GI bucked this pattern as he lacked the self-awareness to truly understand his 'monstrosity', his otherness, I think the fact that he misses his old friends and protects Nina shows that he wants to belong, he needs companionship. And its clear that it's not just a compulsion: he enjoys killing Nazis because it gives him value and makes him worthy of belonging. As for the Weasel...man, I don't know it's unclear how self-aware he is. But Nina? Nina never ACTED like a monster, she's legitimately blameless. That's what made the 'go be a monster' line so brutal: the people she finally started to bond with, who accepted her, told her that murder was part of her nature, that that's what she had to do to belong. And in the end, that's the greatest shame, because the lesson shouldn't be that you have to be badass, to be powerful, to be dangerous, to be USEFUL in order to belong. She didn't have crazy powers, and she shouldn't HAVE TO.

Interesting to note, but PDM was actually Gunn’s second choice to be killed off in that film; the initially-planned casualty was Ratcatcher (presumably she would’ve been crushed by Starro while her rats chewed into him for Harley to finish the job). All of the team is kind of parallel to at least one of the main Task Force X members in that film. Besides Ratcatcher &. Nina: * The Flags, obviously. The seeming leader who is apart from the team, has standards vs. Waller, and is put out of commission before the climax. * The Bride in contrast to Bloodsport; cynical gun-slinger, whose arc involves bonding with the Heart of the team. * GI Robot and Peacemaker; the simple-morality patriot, also uses guns but differently. * Dr. Phosphorous & Polka-Dot Man; obscure Batman rogue with an explosively-potent power. * Weasel & King Shark; simple-minded, anthropomorphic animal who isn’t without his depths. * And… I guess that Eric is kind of the Harley, in being not really part of the team? Kind of, really. Now we have new members, and it seems Flag Snr. isn’t the leader anymore; let’s see how the sophomore (hopefully not final) season goes whenever it’s ready for release. At least we’ll see Flag having a supporting role in “Superman”; don’t expect him to be big but it’s going to create that continuity of the setting.

The Shelley book was Mathilda, her second novel, about a young woman whose father confesses he wants to bang her and then commits suicide. She wrote it while living in Italy and mailed it to her father in England to get published; after reading it he refused to either publish it or return it to her, and it ended up not being published until more than a hundred years later. The relevance to the Bride is pretty clear. There's also less direct but still relevant connections to Rick and Nina's stories, too.
@jaytier704915 күн бұрын
I wonder if GI will remember Nina. In the beginning, GI and Nina were the first to start a friendship. He even asked about where friend Nina was when the Bride and Nina were captured and left behind. Knowing James Gunn, it's actually not that surprising that Nina got killed if you think about it. Waller at the beginning of the show stated that she was the most sensible/ human of them all. Killing her means the only ones left were the actual monsters. But with this comes another interesting and genius detail. The Bride, created just to be a bride for Eric, learned how to value, respect, and in some ways, love Nina, a parallel to Eric who never actually learned to how to love.

Nina’s life was a tragedy from start to finish. Her end was a true gut punch when you realize she’s the only true innocent in the series. The entire season people were theorizing why Nina was imprisoned, what incredible power she had hidden and what terrible crime she might have committed. But the twist was there wasn’t a twist. Nina had never done anything wrong. She never hurt anyone, even as self defense or revenge. Rather than be near those that hurt her she simply tried to be alone. She couldn’t have killed the princess in the end because it wasn’t in her to hurt anyone, unlike the princess. She never stood a chance. Only two people ever cared about her, her father that was murdered in front of her and the Bride that called her the biggest freak of them all and sent her to her death. Nina deserved a softer, kinder world.

I will say this finale had a lot of pros and cons to it as I do wish the show had at least one more episode to flesh out everything with feeling a bit rushed however I will say watching Nina's backstory with her upbringing and struggles of her disabilities and as a burden to her father just to die by thr princesses hand was so devastating as she truly didn't deserve to die. But watching her origin while just a couple minutes later seeing her die just like that feels very anticlimactic and made Nina feel useless in the overall show. I do like how Nina's empathy had an impact on the Bride as we see her grow past her jaded cynicism and avenge Nina's death by killing the Princess. BTW Im a bit confused what made Illana so dangerous or what her motivation was since we never really got a great understanding of what made her such a deadly threat to other big heavy hitting heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman etc...for the DCU and then Bride just kills her just like that as there is a lot of unanswered questions?

Oh, not much? Guess its really that simple? The time between that and the twist reveal was too short imo. The princess had great opportunity to be a villain in season 2 or another project, they didnt need to go "oh she was who we thought she was all along". All in all, the backstories took up around half of the whole season. I wouldnt have minded to learn what Waller did with Circe or to see one or two more episodes between them travelling to the castle and them finding the princess. Maybe even have Clayface impersonate a second person after the professor. Anything to make this season feel a bit more complete.

@@willcopeland275no of course not, there are certainly some cops who join the force out of a desire to do good. I’m certainly there are plenty like that actually, the issue is there is little to no accountability for police in America. The perfect example of this is the Uvalde Texas shooting. Dozens of cops just stood in the hallway for close to an hour just listening to the screams of children as they were gunned by by a shooter and if it wasn’t for some random guy going in the school and stopping the shooter, who knows how long they would had just stood there. And what happened to them? Nothing really, I’m not even sure if any of them were actually fired for it. And when good cops speak out against the bad cops in their region, they are ostracized for it. And then you have all of the high profile cases of cops killing unarmed people (particularly black people) and very few of them actually face repercussions because the system is rigged in their favor. And there are cops who are aware of this and abuse it maliciously and they are protected by law enforcement. And this been going on for decades now, look at the Rodney king beating for that. So while I don’t agree with saying that all cops are bad, law enforcement in this country is ripe for justifiable criticism

That shot of her under the water underneath the princess was fab, a mirror like shot of her against a human, keeping that question of how human does she see herself. Real shame she had to die, but it did make sense as she was the most innocent. The Bride's revenge felt so vindicating. Loved how they wrapped it all up without it feeling convoluted or like they were hanging on for more. Yes there's a tease for more CC, but as for the princess she's out of the picture. Overall this series was great, so happy it stuck the ending in a satisfying way. Let's hope the next DCU stuff will be on this level. I think it goes along with the theme of monsters actually being tragic characters who are rejected by society for things they have no control over like Nina and Weasel

A question for americans, did you know that eastern and southern europe isn't just bird poop eating romani and weird castles US heroes get to destroy? Every single time it's in a show it's just that.

i like the season, it feel like there was missing at least an episode to finish everthing properly, but i imagine thats the problem when this show and character need to flow to another movie or even season. i asume Flag is gonna be use in other thing, probably a cameo in superman, Peacemaker 2 probably have some cameos and reference of the Commandos, all of that, to me the problem is that this individual season feel rush and incomplete. fun charactes, great animations but the plot was very thin and the ending a little bit anticlimatic

The Nina backstory doesn't really make since the media was like the mysterious sea creature spotted in the harbor of the town where she went to school and was know??? Guess a fish kid going to school being on a sport team and growing up to be an adult didn't make the news?
@marcodragneel803515 күн бұрын
True, but its seems like in this universe Gunn made, oddities in normal everyday things seem to be not out of place. But then again if it is "normal" in this world why were they so afraid of a creature in the city waters? I mean killer croc literally lives in the sewers but no one bats an eye to address how to get him out. So yeah a bit of a writing mishap on that end

It stuck the landing but didn't quite nail it It was underwhelming except for the Nina backstory part (which was great mind you) but everything else felt a bit rushed. One more episode would have made it feel more complete IMO also considering that Dr Phosphorus is from Gotham...how does he not know Clayface is a question I have

@@neminem233lol. Clayface is a small villain on a grand scale. The most violent version of him is a raging maniac killer that is specialized in hiding as a different person everytime he kills. He’s stealthy. On the other hand most other members of Batman rogue gallery are either gang leaders or public terrorists.

Not a huge fan of this finale. I still don’t understand HOW the Princess was supposed to end the world. Her soldiers died by the dozen; how was she supposed to take on the rest of the world plus the Justice League? It feels like we are missing an episode.
