it probably sounds a little silly, but this video has somehow become quite impactful on my life. i remember watching this about a year or so ago, just out of curiosity. i've always been fascinated with 3D modelling but i could just never grasp it properly. i didn't understand anything in the video, i only observed with admiration. fast forward to 2017, i decided one day to actually pick up 3D modelling and animation because i've always wanted to, just never had the patience or drive for it. i came across this video again after learning the very basics of blender, extruding, rotating, moving, etc etc. it still seemed confusing, but this time i watched more observantly. i was trying to dissect it and learn from it. one month later, i've created a few things already, learnt how to sculpt, model, vaguely understand how to rig.. and i'm back here again. and i understand the video fully. and i appreciate it so much more. and i'm not even coming back consciously, it just happens to pop up in the side bar every so often. i just can't explain how this video makes me feel. it just makes me reflect on my progress and i am very appreciative and grateful for it. thank you

I took a year and a bit of 3D in college. Even though we were using different software and I wouldn't put myself on this level- and we didn't get into rigging- you do get used to doing this stuff, after a while. School helped, but it's mostly just learning fundamentals that you can learn for free online, and practice.
@mostdubious96248 жыл бұрын

@KTULUFAN7 жыл бұрын
I started using Blender when it was still in beta. I got a degree in computer graphics using 3DS Max and other programs made for game graphics, now I look at Blender and it rivals some of the best animation software in the industry, it's amazing. Admiral Meowmix, poly is not what you want to worry about, that's easy. Pay more attention to your textures and environment, that is what really sales an animation. The more you mess with poly the easier making a mesh object/character gets.
@jamesmoffitt34916 жыл бұрын
If I owned a game development business I would defiantly try to hire someone as skilled as you to do the 3D modelling.
@Daniel-__6 жыл бұрын
Fire Eyes I know this is just a complement, but I didn't stuff my head full of shit when trying to make unity games for nothing, damn it! The model's resolution is enhanced by using subsurface modeling, a tool used to create smoother transitions between each vertex. Unfortunately, it creates a whole bunch of unnecessary topology that eats performance for breakfast. That is why this artist is using a render based workflow, quality of topology over performance. Now they could always manually retopologise it, but the matter it was created in dictates the model would look like chicken sh*t if you try to get it video game ready. If you wanted to start a video game company, I would recommend that you hire video game modelers. They work hard to make sure every vertex counts, and lower end computers can run it, or you can dedicate more processing power to other things, such as online networking or a higher end physics engine.
@TheCatMurgatroyd5 жыл бұрын
@@Daniel-__ Hi :) i want to study 3d animation soon and I'm right now just looking for a video where someone does good topology but in a speedrun like this video so i can understand the process as a whole a bit better... Do you have a recommendation? It's hard for someone like me, who barely knows about good topology, to find a gem on KZbin

@@Daniel-__ Interestingly, I have yet to see a properly rounded planet on any mobile AR/VR game or app. They all have corners. It's incredible, really.
@Daniel-__5 жыл бұрын
@@ЕвгенийКутилин Well, with the limited processing power of the Snapdragon and it's equivalents, They can increase framerate by just having an Icosphere instead of a higher resolution sphere. The visual appearance of a sphere is usually not prioritized when you have to deal with gameplay and real-time rendering first.
@Warhamer1165 жыл бұрын
12:21 on the subject of teeth (and other difficult to weightpaint parts)- it's good idea to give the initial parent object a vertex group that is named after the bone you want to control the teeth. Having standardized bone names helps with that since you can assign a vertex group to bone without the bone even existing in the file as it automatically clicks once armature modifier is added. That way when you duplicate the teeth, they are automatically assigned a bone which then controls it without needing to weightpaint it or having to rely on auto-weight paint. When switching from jaw teeth to upper teeth, just rename the vertex group in the parent of the teeth and then the ones copied from that will be assigned to the upper jaw bone/headbone. Few clicks more when setting foundation can save tens of minutes of menial copy-pasting later. Just saves some fiddling with iffy weight paint glitches that result from overlapping or difficult to reach vertices.

i saw this 6 years ago and was like "wow, this looks so easy! i could do art like this if i wanted" but never really got around to 3d modeling or sculpting. id mess around but thats it, spent most of my time with traditional paper and pencil. id say thats still where im at, but i gave sculpting a try today and i amazed myself. just having that visual library built up on how to do artistic and creative things made the barrier of entry a lot softer than i could ever imagine. and it really helps how little of a technical know how you need for blender sculpting. i feel i still have a lot to learn for modeling, ive forgotten how to do everything for that sadly. but sculpting felt so intuitive and i managed to make an anatomically semi accurate person blind without much reference at all. it really gave me a boost knowing ive learned enough that i made something so intuitively in a medium im not familiar with. its still nothing to gawk at though, i would be prouder in a 2d traditional platform since thats my main goal, and you can endlessly refine a 3d model until its perfect from all angles while 2d is "is this sketch worth the time investment of rendering or should i restart?" you cant just repose a sketch. 3d feels creatively easier but 2d is more rewarding in its accomplishments to me even if it isnt as versatile. its hard to explain i suppose. but in the end, i just love creative mediums and hope to master at least one in my life time.

Big Dick Energy, rendered In all seriousness though, this was absolutely incredible to watch. My current goal is to work in the video game industry, and seeing this made me feel both nervous in the face of greatness, and hopeful that I may one day stand somewhere near your level. You're doing great - never let anything make you feel less proud than you should be, cuz goddamn.

Don’t feel scared, I don’t work at that industry or anything, but I do artwork and I know that feeling of watching someone great do a lot better than you, but there’s a phrase from an illustrator I admire that said something like “if you like it you’ll do it with frequency and if you do it with frequency you’ll get good at it” so do your best at it bro Wish you luck with anything you do. Subscribe to pewdiepie (I know it’s a dead meme now) and render more dick energy. Bye

I saw this video like a 14 years old girl when it came public on KZbin 6 years ago. I was fascinated with the process before and I'm fascinated now again. I just love these timelapses and this is the one I remember the most. It was a video that made me interested in 3D. But now I noticed something - you were using BLENDER? Oh my god! I'm doing Blender for a year now and it's so great to see my progress that I could do the basic model too.

Leave it to someone with an asian sounding name to make a purple dinoroo with glowing tattoos and an enormous pelvis... Jokes aside this is still very impressive and takes a great deal of time and effort. For those saying he didn't save, he probably edited out the times he saved it from the video. Additionally, this project probably took days or weeks. I don't use blender, but I'm going to school and use Maya, and a lot of the crafting techniques in the first 4 and a half minutes are very familiar to me, but that's about where in the video that my skills end.

It looks like a mix between Mewtwo, a Utahraptor, an alien xenomorph, a dragon, and Mbwun (from the book/movie Relic). In my opinion, it would need at least one more toe or slightly bigger feet with the toes spaced further apart to support that frame & musculature and the head seems a little small, but otherwise pretty cool design. Not something I could do as I can't draw for shit, let alone use a computer to "draw". Cool to see the process. Looks complicated.

This isn't programming, you just have to learn how to use it and it all breaks down to art skills and time.
@oliistrik7 жыл бұрын
+Bed Conquerer are you suggesting that with programming you don't just have to learn how to use it? Programming breaks down into really only two things: The ability to break a problem down into many small steps, and the knowledge of a language such that you can implement those steps. Both of which are quite easy to learn.
