I loved this version of Dracula, he started out much like he was described in the book and slowly became handsome throughout to attract the woman he fancied. I love how the first moments of this scene are similar to how films looked during that time: choppy & fast paced, almost like the scene isn't of much importance... but the moment he finds Mina, it immediately transitions to today's clear crisp video quality, as if the main character/heroine has appeared. It's deeply poetic, and a very nice touch to give insight about how much he valued and cherished her. She was the one who gave him meaning to life, and he could finally *live* again now that he'd finally found her after 'crossing oceans of time'. Gary Oldman, the writer of the book Bram Stoker, and the talented film crew/cast are amazing for putting together this masterpiece. Will never, ever get tired of watching this great film.
@Wailwulf2 жыл бұрын
The fast pace of old films has more to do with the standardized pace of films of the late 30's to now. The standard speed for film now adays is 24 frames per second. The frame speed of the older films, were more like 16 or 18 frames per second. But when they were re-played in the later age, they were shown at the standard speed of modern projectors of 24 frames a second. This would mean on the modern projectors a second of viewing would show what had been filmed for 1.33 to 1.5 seconds of real time.
@dinoflagella41852 жыл бұрын
Yes, I absolutely love how the director plays with the frame rates. It starts off with a slow frame rate. Then, when Mina appears the frame rate jumps to a higher speed.

This movie was so haunting and sexy at the same time. He done all of that because he loved his wife so much. Couldn’t kill himself he would go to hell but didn’t want to be alive either. Gary Oldman is by far the best actor of this era. Not a star playing different roles. But an actor you often won't even recognize until you know he is in the movie. I have never seen another actor capable of playing so many roles so different from another. The absolute opposite of a 'one trick pony' :)

Of all the roles Gary Oldman played, Dracula is definitely one of his best roles. It just shows how much range and a huge portfolio he has as an actor. Also is pretty ironic that Gary played Sirius Black and Winona played Joyce in Stranger things because both Christmas lights and a wolf appear during the cinematograph scene. Still, remarkable movie! ♥️

Funny enough Gary was offered Edward Scissorhands but turned it down because he didn’t understand it. So would have been the second film they did together.

@@GreenClassified I don’t even mind Keanu Reeves. Despite a few awkward moments with the accent, he conveys all the emotions well for the scenarios he’s in, especially when he’s in the train with Mina trying to give her hope as she’s slipping away like Arwen and Frodo.

@@lukasmiller486 i agree, when I first watched this movie on the big screen, Keanu to me was an awkward and shy character, the critics tell me its because he can't act, lol ok whatever, thankfully they can't tell me what I must like and hate, Francis Ford is such a skilled director he would never have allowed Keanu to completely ruin his movie.

Gary should have gotten an Oscar for this portrayal. And he was so beautiful. His portrayal was sensual. But adding young Winona and Keanu killed the levity in this movie. I would have added more skilled seasoned actors for their parts to support Gary's portrayal.

I love the "effect" of him walking through London, this very old style of footage like the one they see at the cinematograph, it almost indicates that Dracula is truly connected to Cinema in his prior. I even love the reaction he has for living in civilty after all this time in a decrepit and old castle, like the old that meets the new and enjoys it, and in the opposite, Mina doesn't like the "cience" of cinematograph even though she is living in that time. It is so wonderful, and what we can say about Gary in this look? Although he is a tough british man, he perfectly acts the part of a foreign that meets a new world for him. He is one of the few that can perfectly act with different accents, and always gets the job done and in the best way possible. It was the perfect choice for his version of Dracula, both evil and in pain, creepy and charmy, suffering a miserable life even if having the powers of darkness and three beauties as wives. I wished to see this Dracula in a classic version of the character, but I think it was a total different thing, everything of this movie has been made to get the final result

The film is a failed attempt to imitate Persephone and Hades. I'm happy with the new adaptation of Nosferatu, it will erase these nonsense that the weak Coppola inserted into the film. He's the one who ruined The Godfather in the second and third films.
