Watch Bram Stoker's Dracula Now: AAN.SonyPicture...
BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA / Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder star in the tortured tale of a charismatic vampire, based on the tale of the Prince of Darkness. / Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder and Anthony Hopkins star in director Francis Ford Coppola's visually stunning, passionately seductive version of the classic Dracula legend. In BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, Coppola returns to the original source of the Dracula myth, and from that gothic romance, he creates a modern masterpiece. Gary Oldman's metamorphosis as Dracula who grows from old to young, from man to beast is nothing short of amazing. Winona Ryder brings equal intensity to the role of a young beauty who becomes the object of Dracula's devastating desire. Anthony Hopkins co-stars as the famed doctor who dares to believe in Dracula, and then dares to confront him. Opulent, dazzling and utterly irresistible, this is Dracula as you've never seen him. And once you've seen BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, you'll never forget it.

I guess in the movie this was never clear. I know that in the book the coach was Dracula disguised because in the book Jonathan is impressed about how strong the coach is and that Dracula had the same strenght. But I guess in the movie they decided that the coach would be a creature since there was no clue about Dracula being the coach.

Keanu was so inexperienced yet. After watching the movie, it feels like he was pushed into a specific acting. (even the British accent with such wrong lines such as: "I say... is the castle far?" Seriously, wouldn't it be better for him to say something like - "Sir, may I ask... -and interrupt upon seeing the strange behavior of the coach-man) I think that the bad acting on Keanu was because of him not forcing a specific acting into the character and being pushed around by the director. Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins knew better, and took the reigns of their characters.

@@KLynn21 Thank you very much Is the 1931 version with Boris Kollof? I've been thinking of watching him just haven't done it yet. I've been on an old movie kick lately. I've been watching Sherlock Holmes from the 1940's and they are actually quite good. I'm embarrassed to say that until recently I thought Sherlock Holmes was a real person...☺

Kind of think old drac was doing some shapeshifting and trolling here first as the wolf, then the stagecoach driver, and then back to old man dracula himself. I wonder if shapeshifting makes it so he has to feed more often. Figure it would use up his strength.

Maybe the accent was not good, I am not a native English speaker so I don't know. But I see no problem in his acting because I have read the book. Harker is naive, quiet, a bit confused and has very little initiative. Yet, he was strong enough to escape

This was he most important job so far, and he was very scared but he tries not show, he doesn’t want to rude so he can do his job and leave the place. This is taken from the book but in the book Dracula appearance is less exaggerated, and the castle looks like just an old castle in the movie is bit scarier than the book.

Keanu's character is comparable to modern day liberal. Can look into the scarriest shit and keep believing in all kinds of happy stuff. He can see scary hands, nails, teeth, appearances and behaviour and still feel like at home.

I love this movie for its style, atmosphere, design, costumes, but when I saw this in the theatre wayyyy back in 1992 I thought Keanu and Winona were terribly miscast. Keanu, well don't need to explain why. Winona although lovely is not a woman a man would travel through "oceans of time" to be with. She was too young, nothing sexual or passionate about her. She's pretty but not beautiful. Remember "oceans of time". I love them both and am a fan. Just thought they got the parts because they were popular at the time, instead of the right fit. Agree to disagree

I don’t know if the intended effect was achieved with the weird hairdo and capes, but I think Coppola wanted to convey a centuries old monster and not a blood sipping British-like gentleman, the kind of Bela Lugosi portrayal that had been Hollywood canon since the 1930s. Dracula here is a partially metamorphosed former Christian king who had a falling out with God. Much more frightening than an upper class eccentric and IMO the movie opened doors for the vampire revival that would take place a decade later.

@@mohamadmostafa2987 -- Actually I recently got the novel myself. In the movie, we see that dracula has that very long reach in the scene where Harker cut himself shaving. Earlier we saw the coachman's freaky long reach. In the novel, Harker spoke of the coachman's strong grip and then later spoke of dracula's strong grip then speculated that they were perhaps the same "person". But even the novel merely hinted that dracula and the coachman were one and the same but never said so explicitly.
