Creatures & Cryptid Files Vol 1: Bigfoot, Nessie, and Chupacabra
Cryptids have captured our curiosity for ages. Tales of mysterious and elusive creatures roaming the wilderness spark our imagination.
In this first installment of... quite a few, we explore three famous cryptids that have left big footprints on popular culture (ahem).
Bigfoot sightings go back centuries. We investigate theories on Gigantopithecus, hear (and see) compelling accounts from seemingly credible witnesses. And, of course, we'll discuss the famous Patterson-Gimlin Film.
The Loch Ness Monster. One of my personal favorites. There are photographs, film and video. Could Nessie be the last surviving dinosaur?
The Chupacabra. Starting in 1995, this vampiric predator terrorized Puerto Rico, massacring livestock. Theories on alien experiments and genetic mutations attempt to explain its sudden appearance.

I’m from WA state. People unfamiliar with the PNW cannot fathom how vast and remote the forests are. In fact, in central WA, a 10 minute drive into the foothills, followed by a 20 minute hike puts you where there are no roads, trails, or cell service. Growing up, my group of friends camped quite often, and during winter, would ride snow mobiles in those areas. I remember one time, about dusk, I stopped my snow mobile because I was having carburetor issues. I pulled out my flashlight and as I was shining it toward the engine, I saw huge foot prints in the snow, running perpendicular to my track. About 4-5 feet between prints. At first, I thought maybe my friends were pranking me, but I was leading our group. And we were far off any known trails. If someone was hoaxing, they would’ve had no idea if people would ever actually see those prints. Not saying they 100% exist, just saying that wilderness is VAST.

I'm from Puerto Rico. In the year 2001 my niece was born. My mom was so hyped she saw it almost everyday even though she lived a bit far from us. By that time my dad bought a small bunny in "El Festival de las Flores" I never had one before so in my mind it was completely annoying having to go watch the baby when all I wanted to do was play with my bunny. My dad made a pretty big cage for it and my mom even made a pillow for it to sleep, the holes on the cage where very very small so no big animals could actually get inside. One night we arrived from my sister's home and the bunny was laying flat on the cage. I ran to it and to my horror she was dead and full of what appeared to be puncture wounds. There was absolutely no blood on the area, when we tried to take the body out of the cage she was completely dry and I always say the best description I could give of the body is when you take a newspaper get it all wet and then dry it in the sun. We always say she was attacked by the chupacabras because it's the only thing that appeared to bypass fences and cages. It's the first time I share this story because here on the island people think you are making things up if you say something like that.

@@TheWhyFilesthere is a Sasquatch video on KZbin titled: "Bigfoot (Almasty) Caught On Tape In Russia 2015". It is the best footage I've seen other than the Patterson-Gimlin film. I was wondering if y'all have seen it and what your thoughts are on it. I think it's impossible for a person to move like that in the woods esp in a monkey suit and I don't think it could be done with CGI. In February of 2018, I was attending a university on Michigan’s west side. Our campus had these expansive hiking trails and deep woods that would go into the next counties over. My friends and I hiked every single day and would party in the woods. This one time we were hiking in the afternoon after class, it was a warmer winter day so we were on a long hike, down a ravine and were walking in this valley/ravine between the hills. There was snow on the ground but it wasn’t fresh and as the day was nice, it was beginning to melt the snow left . When were walking in the ravine at one point I looked down and noticed a HUGE barefoot footprint in the ice. My friends and I all stopped and literally had no words for what we were looking at. It was a huge foot and I was thinking who is walking around barefoot in the snow?? You could even see the toe impressions. We all took pictures of it and I even have a photo of my foot inside of the print, you can clearly tell it’s abnormally taller and wider than a human foot, i’m a size 9 in women’s and it dwarfed my foot. I wish I could post photos of it on here because it looks IDENTICAL to the footprint castings shown in this video!!! Even before this incident, my friends and I had really weird things go on in these woods, like one time without even saying something to eachother we all felt that something was watching us from the trees and we all got up and ran out of the woods simultaneously. Another time my one friend even swears she saw a large figure leap from one tree to another. We even wrote notes and put it in our wallets saying “if you find this, I was killed by a yeti”, sounds crazy but that’s how terrified and convinced we were of what we saw and felt. Later on, I looked up yeti sightings near me and sure enough the exact county I was in had a pinpoint of sightings in the woods where I was.

What are the chances that there is an entire subspecies of an intelligent ape species existing in remote pockets of forests, surrounded by civilization - these apes being just about intelligent enough to not leave any fossil or geological records, and only willing to make themselves briefly visble to people with either only 144p potato cameras and / or vaseline smeared across their lenses? 😂 Occams razor. The more likely explanation is that the tentative "evidence" for the existence of these things are either the product of hoaxsters or just misinterpretations by genuinely well meaning people. Like it or not, people tend to want to gravitate towards the fantastical and extraordinary. Hear something weird in the woods or see some funny lights in the sky and the first thought is Bigfoot and aliens instead of howler monkeys or drone tomfoolery 😂 It is what it is.

You're referring to Matt Emsch's encounter, one of only two dogman encounter testimonials that I believe to be genuine testimoney; the other being the encounter of Joe Barger, and you absolutely need to hear his story if you haven't already. His story and Matts encounters are to this day the ONLY accounts I believe of dogman encounters are being told 100% truthfully that I've personally come across. I'm a staunch skeptic who wishes to find true evidence of something, and while I wouldn't say these testimonies are true evidence of anything, they also don't seem contrived or deceitful. Matt has a KZbin channel by the way, it's called Planet 412. Check it out some time, he even did a video covering his own incident, and did a full interview with Joe who recounts his encounter as well. Matts encounter is the first video on the channel, titled "The True Terrifying Story Of Matt Emch". Joe's interview on Matt's channel is the video titled "The Man That Killed A Dogman (Interview With Joe Barger)". That title may sound sensationalistic by the way, and I thought so too when I first heard Joe's testimony (well before his interview with Matt), but just give it a chance. Joe has maintained an unshakeable level of consistency in his testimony over the years. I can't say for sure that he really did encounter a dogman, but whatever he went through, he clearly his telling the truth about what he believes he experienced.

In the book "Apprenticed to the Himalayan Master", Author ShriM wrote, when he was exploring deeper into the Himalayas, he acquired deadly fever, and he was going to die within 2-3 days. But while he was resting on bed half conscious, in a small hut in those mountain ranges, and other people were out, something came into the room, having same body as a Yeti, long furry body, with creating a peculiar high pitch sound. It put some herbs into Shri M's mouth and went away hastly. Within a few hours, he revived and other people came and told that it was a Yeti who is helpful towards human, but really shy to come in front of them.

The yogi and guru tell of experiences that no scientists or a large number of the populace in the west would ever believe without having witnessed it themselves, or having some organic part or pieces of the event to disassemble under a microscope before it can be accepted as real. I personally think that some of those things are possible to those who have dedicated their lives to those practices. They’re placed specifically in between segments. The content of course is the best; but I’m hugely grateful for reliably predictable “commercials breaks”.

Most outstanding channel on KZbin. I'm a veteran viewer of In Search Of... and Unsolved Mysteries and The Why Files is the most interesting and comprehensive show dealing with odd, mysterious stories. The depth of thought and effort that goes into each episode is immediately evident. Nowhere else have I ever seen such a variety of interesting stories covered. There is no better storyteller than AJ. The debunking is essential but does not dampen the stories. The debunking is absolutely necessary and only adds credibility. Great work!!

I was a Bigfoot skeptic for years, but upon seeing a clear unobstructed foot print miles from anywhere, where I had the chance to examine it closely, I became convinced. First, the size was 19.5 inches long, 6 inches at the ball of the foot and 5.5 at the heal. Using displacement of our jeep tires (since my 230 lbs weight was not sufficient for comparison.) I was able to determine the force necessary to make the print exceeded 1000 lbs of pressure. There were many interesting aspects to the anatomical nature of the print, but the most interesting aspect was the complex epidermal ridges throughout the entire print. I just can't see anyone faking that. And if they did why spend that kind of time doing it in a place few if any would visit in the short time that it would last?

I have a very close friend who is a big foot hunter, he’s been hunting big foot all over the US for decades. My friend says that either big foot is really REALLY good at hiding, or he doesn’t exist. But… He also says that people are seeing something.. some of the first hand accounts he’s been told are EXTREMELY compelling. Often, these people are reluctant to tell their story for fear of being labeled crazy, but when they do tell, they are absolutely sure of what they saw, and often quite frightened of what they experienced. Now I’m not sure if big foot exists or not, but I like to keep an open mind. I hope he exists. And I do believe that these people saw something.. what is that something? Who knows? Great video as always AJ and why fam! Love all you guys! ❤

Sasquatch ate real and like other higher dimensional beings, they naturally vibrate faster than people can perceive. But they can drop into 3d. Sasquatch and other beings are telepathic and some types think we are the tasty dumb animals who need to be controlled. We all need to stop trying to harvest each other and learn to get along. Or, we’ll all get kicked off the planet.

Except for stray dogs. There are lots of those. 😂 Regardless, I love this episode. Keep up with the great work!

I can tell you this that seven seas apart in a remote town in Pakistan north we had a similar story of this animal cryptid called Chupacabra. This story emerged all of a sudden as far as I know but years later as I became interested in the myths and urban legends I searched the internet for these myths and found out about Chupacabra. Now the time I am talking about is way before internet existed in Pakistan like it does now. So now I am wondering that this story might have travelled but then they coined a word for it which is a rare occurence for a language that isn't that common either. At that time we thought people are just taking about Hyenas or coyotes.

They both end walking up the mountain and then the film ends. Pretty crazy actually.

Bigfoot is real. I've seen 2 in Yacolt, Washington. I played with one in my sand box behind the barn. It was a juvenile. I offered it my Tonka truck when it squatted in font of me in the sandbox. It was a lot bigger than me and I wanted to be nice so it wouldn't take me away. My dad was a logger and my mom's side of the family are native American, so I knew of Bigfoot at a young age. It was covered with black hair, with what seemed to be blueish eyes. I think it was a girl, because as it squatted I didn't see anything a boy would have between its legs. I was young boy so that's something I took into consideration. After a couple minutes of showing it my toy and how it worked, it looked into the tree line, I followed its gaze and a bigger one was in the trees. It didn't make any sounds, but it's eyes seemed to change color from a blueish, to yellow, to red, and then moved deeper into the trees and the one in the sandbox got up and walked into the forest and disappeared. Just then my mom called me from the house. She asked me where I was and I told her I was in the sandbox playing with the monkey girl and my Tonka trucks. She turned pale white and told me to get inside and not to tell anyone about what I saw. Bigfoot is real

It was of a super tall creature with horns on its head. It was holding a man upside-down by the head. Below the horned creatures feet appeared to be a bunch of dead bodies. I live in Central Florida where I'm renovating an older home. I've hired a female at times to help me, who lives more out in the country - far from housing developments or homes. She / her family owns quite a bit of land that has a large lake. While she works on my home we talk. She shared how she has seen these beings walk across her property, near her lake. She has seen entire families, adults with children - covered with hair / no clothing, walking across her land just like the video you've shown here. She also commented that, even though they were a bit far away, she could 'smell' them - kind of foul. I've also heard reports that beings like these live abundantly in the Everglades in South Florida. That people who live there, isolated, often leave food outdoors to feed them. The homeowner sees them coming up to their home after dark to eat the food that was left outside for them. I guess, kind of like raccoons. Very large raccoons.

I am from europe, I grew up in heavy forested area, small village, nothing extremely remote, but huge forest. My great-grandfather was telling me stories when I was like 5-6 y/o and I was always thinking nothing of it, but he was very serious about it. He was always telling to never follow whistles in a forest, never to follow a deer who is alone and never walk fields alone in summer noon. I still remember all the stories.

First off: Amazing episode, as usual. You definitely deserve a break! Your explanation of how humans walk made me chuckle. I took Kendo several years ago and they train you to walk and run ball of foot first, then heel second, but mostly keeping off the heel. It makes your reation time faster. A few years later I moved away and started taking Aikido instead. That sensei had the damndest time trying to untrain me of that footwork, becasue that's not how you move in Aikido. Just a funny tidbit. FYI I still walk the Kendo way when barefoot. I still prefer it lol

My wife was the lone American on the most recent expedition for the Loch Ness monster, and she was quoted in the local & international media after the end of the search. She was going to Scotland on a trip to tour the Highlands, and saw an ad about the expedition for the Loch Ness monster, and was able to purchase a ticket, thinking it would be a fun diversion, not knowing it turned into a media circus, and that she would be interviewed and later quoted. She had an absolute blast!

And then Sir Cort Godfrey of the Nessie Alliance summoned the help of Scotland's local wizards to cast a protective spell over the lake and its local residents. My gf and I were scared awake by a growel/scream right outside our window at 3 am one summer night. I didn't know what a bigfoot scream was supposed to sound like. After looking up every kind of animal noise I could find I came across the "scream/howel" description and it fits perfectly. This wasn't in the woods tho. It was right in the middle of a smallish town. Wtf is one doing crossing roads and looking in windows in a southern town? I cant say what made that blood currdling noise tgat night. I can say ive never found any known animal noise that is even close. One major creepy thing is the scream/howel was like it came from a spot beside the window like a person was standing beside the window so they coukd lean over and peek in. It was about where my head is standing inside the house beside the window. Im 6'6 and outside the ground is two feet lower than the floor inside so... Whatever it was it had to be about 8'6. .. I dont sleep anywhere that isnt secure after that. Idk what it is/was but i know it wasnt a human or animal i know of.

How crazy that I was talking about a similar experience today. Me and an ex girlfriend were woken by a blood curdling most vicious witches cackle at around 3 am in the morning. Sounded like the thing had put its head through my window and was screaming from the inside. The most vicious evil sound I’ve ever heard. This actually happened twice with 2 different girlfriends, years apart, 2008 and 2010/2011ish. I lived 2 storeys up, plus I live in England so for me it can’t be Bigfoot but it was something evil

I was in Ocean Shores, WA at the Quinault Casino some years back, and there was a Bigfoot convention that weekend. My girlfriend and I were sitting at a blackjack table with a couple of the cryptozoologists from the convention. The dealer was a women in her 30s from the local Quinault tribe. She said her people had many encounters with Bigfoot and it was an established part of their culture. She said she was disappointed with the convention because they never included her people's experiences, which were very much first hand (unlike those of all the convention attendees).

@Logan.Ninefingers that's right. They had different names in the different languages of the first nation tribes of Australia. There are books by Percy Trezise and Dick Roughsey that mention the three kinds of cryptids calling them Quinkins. Here is a quote from the book, Tarramuli the Giant Quinkin. 1982. "...Quinkins, those sometimes good, but nearly always bad, spirits who roamed the Wild bushland. The good quinkins, called Timara, were tall and thin. The evil Imjim were short and fat. They balanced about on knobbed tales and stole children. But most dangerous of all was Turramuli the giant, whose name meant thunder."

The scientist that did the DNA study is Melba Ketchum. Bigfoot is not a primate. Bigfoot is a human hybrid. The DNA shows Human Female mother and Father of unknown origins. The Patty film is of a real Bigfoot. She has muscle bulge, real breasts, a torn muscle in her thigh. Bigfoot can manipulate our new camera technology. Bigfoot has supernatural abilities. They can make cameras fuzzy and malfunction. The best way to get clear photos of Bigfoot is by using old technology camera like the 8mm which is what P&G used for the Patty film. Check out MK Davis breakdowns of Patty film and he also has footage of a giants handprint in the Lovelock cave. BTW Bigfoot is Nephilim of the Bible and Aliens are interdimensional demons and fallen angels. The "aliens" impregnate human women and that's how Bigfoot came about which is exactly how Nephilim are made. Angel and human woman.

I wasn't even considering the Knights Templar, or religious fanatics who might fear your debunking of ancient superstitions, or Black Ops with power-hungry generals who get all their leads from The Why Files and now want to OWN this great resource! Yes, I was certain SOMETHING paranormal/extraterrestrial/militarial had happened to your show and life had now lost its brightness....and then I found this episode and am back to being happy again in a world that makes a lot more sense with The Why Files in it. Concrete evidence actually does exist, but "evidence" isn't "proof." Doesn't matter how much evidence you have; nothing short of a body on a slab will convince academia to take the matter seriously. And if half the reports about these things are true, getting that body is damn near impossible due to how powerful in terms of raw strength and durability these things are, plus their intelligence.
