Trick: Get a length of heavy dock line. Swim it under the rearmost cross beam of the trailer in the center. take one end up to a bow cleat or the bow eye of the boat. Other end take as straight as possible to the trailer winch. play out some winch line, tie dock line to end, and winch. If the dock line is sturdy enough and you didn't tangle it in the trailer, you can get some lift up using the boat as a float to pull the trailer up and off the ledge.
@toddlake87912 жыл бұрын

Just relaunch the boat, with no weight on the trailer a 4*4 that size should have no problem pulling the unladen trailer out with little strain.
@GrumpysGarageDave10 ай бұрын
I've done something similar to this except we looped a strap around the bunks to the front cleat and used the boat in reverse (SLOWLY) to pick the trailer up enough to get it over the ledge of the ramp .. gotta love long trailers and short ramps at low tide lol .. but this guy definitely didn't need to go that deep

I’ve been boating around 60 years and this week I finally managed to wrap the 1/2” dock line around my prop! Like the boat pulling away in the video, the rope was inside the boat when I left the landing but at some point during the day it apparently was pulled overboard. When I shifted into reverse back at the landing, the prop decided to dine on the long rope. Everything came to a screeching halt - motor died, power trim wouldn’t work due to extreme tension from attached rope, couldn’t shift out of gear to turn off key, etc. They picked the boat up with the forklift and we cut away the rope. Luckily, there appears to be no permanent damage.

@theheez62012 жыл бұрын
Another way to lift the trailer up in that situation is with a pair of stern ratchet straps. You will get wet, but you put the boat back on the trailer, attach the ratchet straps to the back of the boat and the back corners of the trailer, ratchet them tight and the buoyancy of the boat will lift the trailer right up.
@rsouder9532 жыл бұрын
I like both views actually, the view @ the ramp seems pretty close up, and you can really see what's going on, the view from across the way- you get a wide angle of everything and there's no docks or trucks blocking any of the views of the clueless knuckleheads. I do like the fact that you will often show and give credit to the ones who know what they are doing and ace a launch or retrieval. Keep the content coming, I look forward to your videos. And I love your narrating skills, calm and relaxed narration yet you get the funny jabs in there.

Many years ago in my younger days I had a 34' classic race deck cruiser tied to the dock right across from the launching ramp in South San Francisco. I used to sit on my fantail with a cup of coffee watching the festivities at the launch ramp saw some interesting launching including a Ford pickup truck fit up truck fit when under along with its trailer. Anyway your videos are hilarious you're a great commentator blessings to you and yours coming at you these days from the mountains of Southern Oregon
@tedk91442 жыл бұрын
Stuck like Chuck guy should have watched "Stays Strapped" guy for some ideas on the stern straps.. He could have attached his pontoon's rear tie downs back to his trailer while in he water, then use the ratchets on the tie downs to raise the trailer a few feet at most to clear the drop off, then carefully pull forward till wheels clear. Might have even pulled forward enough until the trailer wheels touched down on the ramp. Then release the tie downs and this time been more careful with the ramp length. Sorry if mentioned in the comments earlier as I didn't read through them all.

@christophersheppard17472 жыл бұрын
Yes, as Craig says, it's not necessary to drive the boat all the way onto the trailer. If you have a sturdy lwinch set up it's easier from a control perspective to winch the boat up after starting it on the rollers. I've always found better control this way; maybe depends how tired you're feeling. Love the channel, love your dry humour and ability to have a subtle (sometimes not so subtle) poke at the way some of these crustaceans are handling their toys.

If the water level is really low, my trailer wheels may go beyond the ramp. I don't think I've ever had my truck tires go off the ramp. If that were to happen, I always put the transmission in 4-wheel-drive when I'm unloading or loading the trailer. That also addresses the issue of a slippery ramp due to algae. BTW, your commentary is great!

It boggles me that you wouldn't identify the problem before just applying brute force."I can't see anything wrong, just pull harder." Imagine if the front bumper had pulled off, or the trailer axle ripped off - pontoon cap would probably blame the dually driver for the damage.

i had that same exact thing happen to me with my pontoon boat, in the potomac river launch, i had to back the trailer deeper from the end of the concrete ramp, carry boulders the size of basketballs to fill that hole at the end of the ramp to build a ramp per say so the tires could ride over them and lift the trailer. the water temp was cold, i later discovered when it dropped off over the edge of the ramp, the trailer axel u bolts were catching on the edge of the concrete ramp. the u bots extended about 1 inch past the frame. i learned on some docks there is a mark where the end of the ramp is. problem with the potomac river it has tides, so sometimes you have to go deeper to retrieve or launch your boat. be careful out there.
@karaDee23632 жыл бұрын
I like the view from the spot here, I think you see more... And the reason why there's such a big drop off at the end of the ramp is because people are power loading their boats which prop washes away all the sand at the end of the ramp..... As usual people make their own problems..

I've made that mistake twice many years ago in the Roanoke River, once with a single axle that I just picked up and move it sideways back up on to the cement. Second time was a dual axle and I tied the back of the trailer to a cleat on the front of the pontoon. It lifted it up enough so I could pull the truck forward over the end of the cement. I didn't realize that the ramp was short the first time and that the river was low the second time (different ramps.)

A ratchet strap at the front of each pontoon, hooked to the end of the trailer, would lift it enough to clear, without taking weight of the truck causing it to slide in. Just my opinion.

Sounds like a very good way of doing the job. Of course, the driver would need to get someone else to do it since he doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable about stuff like you suggest. I wouldn't have thought of it either, but I don't have a nice boat, just a 15 ft. canoe.
