Hi there, from Kentucky USA. This song takes me back to my early 20's out in the farmland area of my home. We used to have huge field parties that last a while weekend. CCR was always a favorite and was always played among the other picks of the weekend of music , camping and just partying. No one died no one went to jail. It was fun.

“That song is really about the impending breakup of Creedence. The imagery is, you can have a bright, beautiful, sunny day, and it can be raining at the same time,” John reportedly told Rolling Stone journalist Michael Goldberg in a 1993 interview. “The band was breaking up. I was reacting, ‘Geez, this is all getting serious right at the time when we should be having a sunny day.’”

Years ago. My uncle was dying of cancer, I had helped care for him. He was poorly and in hospital. This song is my favourite song (Along with 'wish you were here' by Pink Floyd). I was walking through Waterloo station in London and a busker was singing this in the station, I was shocked because its the first time I heard this song sung in public. It was strange. That night I spent the entire night in hospital awake, as my uncle didn't have long. It was an awful night. I was with my father. The morning had come I was going to go home quickly to eat something and freshen up, then I go back to the hospital and let my father do the same. I just left the door of my home to return to the hospital, and that song came in my head so I sung it quietly to myself, then it went very bright and sunny, but there was some rain at the same time, I thought how odd, a few seconds later, literally, my father calls to say he has passed away. I froze. And to this day those lyrics 'when its over so they say, it will rain a sunny day' will forever be with me in that moment. Its one of those stories I always remember and don't believe myself, it was like a vivid dream. Isn't life odd sometimes. Lovely reaction guys. You both are very passionate about music and enjoy the time you have together, while you are still young! Peace.

This is a top 10 all time song for me. It's just freaking perfect. I can't put into words why. I've heard it literally countless times and it always evokes some emotion. Like, I can't just listen to it and feel nothing afterwards. So few songs can do that. It's up there with God Only Knows for me.

John Fogerty, The Old Man is Down The Road is on the album Center Field. John Fogerty is the lead singer of CCR and did this album after they broke up. He got screwed over by the other members of the group, one of them was his brother. He didn't do anything until Center Field which is his best album in my opinion.

I almost rolled off my sofa laughing at the line "You feel like they are your friends." John & Tom Fogerty, two of the band members, also brothers, barely spoke to each other for the last 2 decades of their lives. One of the most brutal and infamous fueds of rock & roll. They did, however, reconcile before Tom's death in 1990. John spoke at his brother's funeral.

You would love Green River. Run Through the Jungle (haunting) and Fortunate Son were Viet Nam war time songs that were embraced by anti war protesters as well as a lot of soldiers fighting in the war..many really didn't want to be there and wouldn't have been but for the draft. Also I Put a Spell On You really showcases his voice. They will never get old.

This is one of my all time favourite CCR songs - I downloaded it back in 2015 though I probably had the single before then, and I've been playing it ever since. As you say, guys, the melody is gorgeous and John Fogerty's voice is so distinctive and fab. CCR were huge - their songs were often on Top of the Pops in the UK. I see that this particular song was released in 1971 and yes, it is great for playing in the car! Other favourite CCR songs for me are Green River, Bad Moon Rising and Fortunate Son. Loved your comments guys, cheers.

They were a virtual hit machine. the soundtrack of the '70s. The real breakup with this band occurred with their record company who pretty much stole all their royalties claiming full ownership of all their publishing. It was one of the nastiest artist vs record company breakups ever and in the end the suits won. John fogerty was a bitter man for years and years, refusing to perform his own songs. Check out "Fortunate Son" by them. And their other rain song... "Who'lll Stop the Rain", every bit as good as this one!!
