I think CCR is Dominic’s favorite band 🤪. I agree. You can’t listen to CCR without appreciating the fact that you’ve never heard a bad CCR song! Hard hitting, catchy, unique,brilliant and an indescribable feeling of emotion that their songs literally punch you in the gut with. Never a choice of songs to pick from. Well, back in this time we didn't wait for a record to be released, anyway we didn't have the money for it or even had no record player. What we did was sitting in front of our radio with our small cassette player and a microphone and hoping to get the newist hits and that the moderator wouldn't talk into the song. Everyone was banned out of the room to get clean sound. And then you might become a star in the shoolground with your cassette player.... Greetings from Germany

Suzie q is just one of those amazing songs that gets you jamming, bobbing your head, and the album version is around 8 minutes long, so you can really jam to it, ccr just did an amazing cover of it, even in the dale Hawkins original version, it still gets you jamming, but with the mix of CCR's sound, and johns voice, its a whole different feeling i absolutely love!! (yes, im 14 and i love ccr, and the beatles)

Great reaction, guys! So, i'm 60 years old, and let me tell you my experience of being a CCR fan growing up in America in the mid-70s. Even though I remembered a few songs such as "Rollin' on the River" (as a 6-year old would know "Proud Mary"), I first became a real fan when i was about 10 or 11, when i discovered two of my stepdad's 8-track tapes, the first self titled album and also Green River album. This was about 1974, and at this time American radio was mostly Top 40, and I very seldom heard any of their songs on the radio. It might be hard to believe, because nowadays CCR's music is very well known, but it was truly the case back then. Even Greil Marcus' liner notes on Chronicle stated the same thing, because their music was so different, "in opposition" to everything else at the time. But, i really dug their music, and while others were listening to Kiss, Boston, ELO, or The Bee Gees (!!!), etc, here I was listening to moldy oldies from 6-7 years ago!! Although I like lots of other music too, Creedence has always been in my "Top 3" - floats around with The Buffalo Springfield, The Kinks (esp. Village Green Preservation Society!), The Hollies, and maybe a couple more that I can't think of. Take care, -Tim

I love, love, love your reactions. For me, I was very dismissive of Creedence as a young 14-year-old teen in 1968. I really struggled with their sound because I thought they weren't authentic. I am from northern California and the Fogerty brothers are from El Cerrito/Berkely, California and this bayou thing just didn't compute. They were an AM radio sensation, and I just wasn't an AM radio guy. I was much more into British Blues and hard rock. Well, their catalogue has grown on me over the years, and I have become a fan. It is so much fun to see you two react to this music and thank you for keeping it fresh and real.

Fogerty is such a good guitarist! He stays simple and rarely strays from the “pentatonic box” when he plays licks and leads, but he serves the song so well! He creates atmosphere incredibly well. Under-rated for sure! Peace - from BC, Canada! Cheers, Romania!

I am pretty sure I have never met anyone who didn't like at least some of CCR's songs. I love the early psychedelic sound of this track from their first 1968 album. CCR's greatest Hits and the Eagles' Greatest Hit albums were staples of family road trips when I was a kid. I still have those 8-track tapes around somewhere. Add in American Beauty by Grateful Dead and you are ready for any road trip.

In this era the bands did long songs many times. Up around 10-15 minutes. They had to cut them to fit on the radio. This is one. But the long version is till out there to enjoy.

Music is timeless, good music that is. The classics from Bach, Brahms, Chopin are hundreds of years old. The Classics (Rock) from the previous decades are just as enjoyable. If it makes you feel younger then they've done their job.

This song was co-written and first performed in 1957 by Dale Hawkins, and that version, featuring the great James Burton on guitar, is a classic. Numerous other bands had covered it (including the Rolling Stones), but John Fogerty's vocal really nailed it, and it was CCR's first big hit. Love your CCR reactions, you two!

This is the first CCR song i ever heard and i fell in love with it instantly. Hard to think back that was 57 years ago. I was 13 years old. Two things......one it's the first song i ever tried to drum to. Y friend had a drum set and that was the first time I had ever picked up a set of drum sticks. Later on in life I did become a drummer. Number 2..... I had just met a girl who lived next door to me and I had a big crush on her so i used to sing this song to her. We became lifelong friends and she was the one that introduced me to the girl who became my wife. Both have long since passed away and I miss them both. I bought CCR albums when they first came out on vinyl, and I have been listening to them ever since. You are sure to like Feelin Blue and Sweet Hitchhiker. CCR is a lifetime favorite of mine. Never gets old.

One day ,my 5 siblings and mom were off doing stuff, and it was just dad and I CCR was on the radio, Have You Ever Seen the Rain. wow! i was hooked right there!! 1967 was CCR's first active year. In the same time era, there was a "hot" but now mostly forgotten group with a very different sound called Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66. They provided the USA and the World the first international hit sung entirely in Portuguese, "Mas Que Nada". And if you must also have something from them in English, try "The Look of Love" or "Going Out of My Head".

Fun song facts; This was co-written and originally recorded by rockabilly singer Dale Hawkins in 1956. His version hit US #27 a year later. Eleanor Broadwater and Stan Lewis wrote it with Hawkins. This was Creedence Clearwater Revival's first single (not counting "Porterville," which was released when the band was known as The Golliwogs). They went on to become one of the biggest bands of the late '60s and early '70s thanks to a string of hits written by their leader, John Fogerty. Early on though, they recorded more cover songs, including "I Heard It Through The Grapevine." "Susie Q" was their only single not written or co-written by Fogerty to reach the Top 40. John Fogerty had big plans for "Susie Q" from the start. He intended for it to define CCR's distinct character. In Bad Moon Rising: The Unofficial History of Creedence Clearwater Revivial, he said, "I knew I needed to work on arranging the song so that the band would sound like Creedence Clearwater Revivial, would sound professional, mysterious and also have their own definition. The song I chose was 'Susie Q.' I decided not to wring the song myself. I decided to pick something that existed because it'd just be easier. I'd be less self-conscious about doing things."

Hello - the version you played was the 45 rpm single. The LP 33 1/3 rpm album version is 8 minutes 38 seconds and has more guitar solos. I was 17 when I purchased their first album and have all there future albums. I also saw them live twice in the early 1970's at MSG in NY. Thanks for reacting, I enjoy your comments. RK

CCR stands by itself because it has a distinct sound. If we played you any song by them that you never heard, you would recognize it. So many artists back then you could say the same. Now, maybe not so much.

Throughout the early to mid 1960's, it was English musicians who would cover the original American blues artists of the 20th century while most mainstream American musicians were oblivious. The Brits would rework the original blues songs to infuse them with a more "rock and roll" sound. The Yardbirds, the Rolling Stones, & Led Zeppelin essentially created "electrified blues" for popular audiences. But with CCR it was an American band that came to love American Blues artists, primarily from having been exposed to them via the English bands When CCR did that, cover American blues songs like Susie Q, it was by "rockifying" them the way English musicians had been doing it. They did that magnificently with their first 2-3 albums, which feature several Blues covers that I absolutely love: Penthouse Pauper, Ninety Nine & a Half, I Put A Spell On You. On those early albums, even their original songs, Born On The Bayou, Fortunate Son, Green River sounded very blues influenced. Starting with their 3rd album, they started to perform songs that clearly had popular appeal, but the blues influence was stating to disappear, IMO.
