@@1john4six I'm still trying to find out if I can believe in God, but it makes it difficult when people call others out like this, not saying it's wrong to check someone, but calling him a false prophet and using a scripture out of context to do so. The scripture you mention is ironically part of a series of verses denouncing the act of creating division. Verse 13 implies they were baptized on higher authority by stating "have any of you been baptized in the name of Paul?" He further states v.14-15 he's thankful that he didn't personally baptize most of them so none could boast they were baptized in his name, because v. 17, as you stated, Paul writes "Christ didn't send him to baptize, but rather to preach the good news..." I've seen other videos of his, and while this one may not mention it, Francis Chan makes a point of mentioning, this is how he interprets the words placed in front of him, and he is willing to discuss and explore alternate perspectives openly, through the scriptures. Instead of condemning, ignorance, it's better to teach, and be open to learn, please keep that in mind, so your words aren't misinterpreted as sowing seeds of disunity, vs what seems to be your goal of being sure people aren't led astray by clever speech, and rather hold strong to the scriptures, and God's word.

The phrase, “for the remission of sins,” connects the blood of Christ and baptism. When our Lord Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper (Mt.26:26-29), He said these words with respect to the cup: “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins” (v.27-28). This clearly shows the reason that Christ shed His blood, i.e. the remission of sins. Indeed, the Hebrew writer affirms, “without shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins” (Hb.9:22). However, in Acts 2, when the people asked Peter what they must do to be saved, He said, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (v.38). Note that we are baptized for the very same reason that Jesus shed His blood. This connects the blood of Christ to baptism!

@James Hanratty I see what you mean but you have to take and understand the context of what was going on in the scriptures you have mentioned. 1st) The Symbol of Water in the Bible, whether it be in the time of Noah, or when Jesus was talking to the Samaritan Woman and many other times symbolizes its importance in cleansing and heling. 2nd) Do you really believe Jesus needed to be baptized? He was already without sin, why did he have to be baptized? Well hopefully your answer was because it was wo show us how to get the Holy Spirit. And scripture backs that up. Being saved through Grace doe not give you the Holy Spirit, only Salvation through Baptism, After having a repentant heart grants you the Holy Spirit. As indicated through the actions JESUS himself took. 3rd) At the end of the Day the Bible is clear with it's message of Salvation. I for one can't Judge someone who claims to be saved to Grace because I am not God. But I can go into scripture and show a person the importance of Baptism in their walk and journey with Christ. So to conclude, when the day comes I wont be the judge on the thrown it will be God. I just read scripture and do my best to follow it.
@Rejoran3 жыл бұрын
@James Hanratty , I respectfully disagree. Peter followed up with Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, AND TO ALL THAT ARE AFAR, even AS MANY as the Lord our God shall call. That covers everybody from then on. All of what God does for our salvation is from and because of His grace. There was nothing that came after this that changed this and no one after this point ever corrected, recinded, or backtracked what Peter said on this day, Paul "reinforced" what Peter said. Romans 6:4-7 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: [6] Knowing this, that OUR OLD MAN WAS CRUCIFIED WITH HIM, THAT THE BODY OF SIN MIGHT BE DESTROYED, that henceforth we should not serve sin. [7] For he that is dead IS FREED FROM SIN. Those who use the Titus 3:5 argument are desperately grasping at straws. No one in the Bible ever associated baptism in water Jesus's name that Jesus commanded for his followers Matthew 28:19 with works of righteousness. The only connection ever mentioned between these two is found in commentators such as the one you provided here. You would need someone in the New Testament directly connecting the two, not just the words "do" and "righteousness" that was applied to Jesus's baptism. Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Colossians 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. Colossians 1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church: The Body of Christ and the church are one and the same. Acts 2:47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 5:11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things. Acts 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. Acts 8:3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. 1 Corinthians 15:9 For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. Galatians 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: Since the body of Christ is the church and the church is the body of Christ, you do not have a case that there are two distinct an independent entities, between Pentecost and the days that Paul spoke of the body of Christ, with different governing rules. There was no grace "age" that started after Pentecost. No such thing. Grace existed from the time of Jesus on earth, on through Pentecost, and beyond - without changing. It was all the same grace. John 1:14,16-17 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [16] And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. [17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Acts 11:20-23 And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus. [21] And the hand of the Lord was with them: and a great number believed, and turned unto the Lord. [22] Then tidings of these things came unto the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem: and they sent forth Barnabas, that he should go as far as Antioch. [23] Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord. These were not Paul. Paul simply "continued" the "same" message of grace that was already underway. There is no "next" dispensation of grace in the New Testament. This fabricated false narrative is only this new Paulinian's subculture's creation. It's not BIBLICAL, because people in the Bible never made such a distinction. The verses used to support this belief system are tenuous using only words that could mean one thing or another, nothing concrete, solid, or confirmational.

@James Hanratty, Part 2 Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. was written in the same letter as and did not conflict with Romans 6:4-7 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; [2] By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. [3] For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; [4] And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: was addressed to the same group about whom was also written and did not conflict with Acts 18:7-8 And he departed thence, and entered into a certain man's house, named Justus, one that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue. [8] And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing BELIEVED, and WERE BAPTIZED. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. just like Paul said in Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. and we know that Paul believed as such in Acts 22:8,10 And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. [10] And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. and yet was still in his sins 3 days later Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Paul could not in either in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 or Romans 10:9 be prescribing to others that such belief was the end of the story in being saved, knowing it didn't happen that way with himself. Anyone can cherry pick a scripture that talks about the component of belief in being saved and then "ADD" their addendum that it is exclusively belief. This is something never taught by the Bible and taught only by commentators. By cherry picking scriptures in this fashion and forming a tapestry from them, one can try to get anything to appear how they like. But again, the Bible authors NEVER SAID the things (only found in your comments) themselves. They never spoke of an "age" of grace after Pentecost, or anything or anyone that would go with it. Galatians 2:7-9 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter; [8] (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:) [9] And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision. Acts 15:7-11,14,22-23 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. [8] And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; [9] And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. [10] Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? [11] But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. [14] Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. [22] Then pleased it the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren: [23] And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia:...... Being that Peter vehemently opposed imposing a requirement that the gentiles get circumcised to be saved, it is not possible that he would then preach a gospel that came from and included circumcision, but rather was taking "the gospel" unto the circumcision or those circumcised as is reiterated in Galatians 2:9. and throughout the passage it repeats the gospel of "the uncirmcumcision" and gospel of "THE circumcision". Not the gospel of circumcision nor the gospel of uncircumcision. I believe the NASB use of modern English conveys more clearly to us as it was intended. I believe the 1611 hearers would have understood it the same way. Galatians 2:7-9 But on the contrary, seeing that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised [8] (for He who effectually worked for Peter in his apostleship to the circumcised effectually worked for me also to the Gentiles), [9] and recognizing the grace that had been given to me, James and Cephas and John, who were reputed to be pillars, gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship, so that we might go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised.

John's baptism of the people is the first mention of baptism in the Bible. Water was used in the Old Testament for ceremonial cleansing to remove uncleanness (Numbers 19:7), but there is no mention of complete immersion, particularly in connection with the removal of sin. Some have claimed that John was extending an old custom from the ancient days of Israel, but such is not found in the Bible. That baptism was a new rite is shown by the Jews’ question of John, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” (John 1:25). They questioned his right to add a new ordinance if he did not have sufficient authority. They understood that ordinary men cannot change the practices authorized by God. John's purpose was to prepare people for the coming Christ (Matthew 11:10). Paul explained, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus" (Acts 19:4). It wasn't the same as Christ's baptism. We see this in Ephesus, because after Paul explained the difference, the men in Ephesus were baptized again, this time into Christ (Acts 19:5).

I did an extensive study on what the Bible says about baptism and the answer was clear. Unless you're hooked up to a machine and will die if you are disconnected, you'd better get baptized. Yet somehow I missed 1 Cor 15 where Aul says, "If there is no resurrection, why did we bother baptizing those whose bodies have already died?" Which puts a different spin on Romans 6 where he says that we are immersed into the death of Jesus so that we might also be raised to a new life. I thought it meant living for Jesus on earth and changing how we live and act, but in light of this I think it means that if we are not baptized, we will not be raised to life. Though it could mean both now and later. It appears to mean that if we were never immersed into his death to die to the need to be perfect (the law) so our sins are still on us, we will be raised to death. I have been pretty sure for a while that being baptized into the name of Jesus was how one joined the New Covenant which is why everyone did it immediately after believing, even in the middle of the night. This certainly adds to that argument. No baptism = no resurrection to life

I agree with Chan. We need to simply obey what Jesus has told us. Stick with Scripture and follow it. There are131 times baptism is mentioned in the New Covenant Scriptures. Other than when John was baptizing or Jesus was being baptized, the majority of all the remainder are connected with forgiveness of sins, being united to Jesus, salvation, new life, etc. In other words, most are salvicic passages. Peter says that Baptism is an appeal to God for a good conscience - in other words, baptism is the sinner's prayer or appeal. You never find in the New Covenant Scriptures a "sinner's prayer" like the 19th century revivalists had to develop so they could count who had made decisions in their meetings. In Acts 2 the Apostles just baptized all those who had decided to follow Christ. Baptism is a command of the Lord and believers are to obey His commands. It's not a work, it is a response to Jesus' call to follow Him. If the water company sent you an email saying that their reservoirs are so full you can have free water for June, July, and August ... to get that water you still have to turn on the faucet. Are you working for the water. NO, that's just the way you tell the water company that you want the water they are giving you. Baptism is not a work - you are doing nothing but letting Jesus know that you want to follow Him. If anything it is a wonderful indication of your full submission to Jesus. Anyone being baptized is completely surrendering control of their life to the person baptizing them - and, ultimately to the Lord. Obviously, just getting dunked in water is not baptism. Baptism is an expression of faith and repentance, of your desire to turn from the direction you've been going and to follow Jesus because you trust Him. So faith, confession, repentance, and baptism are all conditions for salvation according to Scripture. "Unless you repent, you will all likewise perish." Can't be saved without repentance. "Without faith it is impossible to please God." Can't be saved without faith. "With the mouth one confesses, resulting in salvation." Can't be saved without confessing your faith. "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved." Can't be saved without baptism. And each of these conditions are mentioned multiple times in Scripture. They are the result of faith and trust in Jesus. I'm amazed at the number of people who come to their understanding of baptism by reading Scriptures that don't even use the word. Just read what the Scriptures actually say about baptism, and then obey them. There is not one time in the Bible when it says that baptism is a symbol or merely spiritual. Baptism is always a physical and real response of obedience to Jesus and His words through the Apostles.
@danielbu26118 күн бұрын
@genebarron8099 Exactly, there are zero examples of delayed baptism in the New Testament. If anything there was an urgency (middle of the night, side of the road, before eating or drinking after a three day water and food fast). The pictures given are also compelling. Peter compares it to the flood. In that case it was the earth that was immersed. When it emerged, all of the unrighteousness was gone. The earth was cleansed. Additionally, in 1 Cor 10, Paul compares baptism to the Red Sea. Through those waters, the Israelites were set free from slavery and became free men.

Baptism saves us but it's because it is the place where we come into contact with the blood of Christ...and that blood is what saves. Baptized into his death...that's where he's blood was shed. Sins are washed away not by water...but by Christ blood...the method God chose for washing of sins by Christ blood this to take place was in the obedient act of submitting to baptism, by faith, not merit. You rise a new creature into Christ, added by God to his church. A Christian, nothing more and nothing less.

The blood of jesus washed us completely clean of all our sins. Christ is the perfect sacrifice that cleansed our sins once and for all. It is through faith in him that we died with christ and rose up again with him. We no longer live but Christ lives in us. Our mind may still be subject to get dirty with the thinking of the world, therefore we need to continually be reminded of Christ's good news of what He did for us and who we are in Him throughout the scriptures. We began our reconciled relationship with God through faith and we'll leave this world through faith. Every good work is Christ in us, nothing we can boast about.

Paul describes his conversion experience in Acts 22. He had already seen the Risen Jesus and had been fasting and praying but it isn't until verse 16 when he is told "And now why do you wait? Rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord" that was the point of when Paul's sins were washed away

In Acts 22:16, when Ananias told Paul, why tarriest, arise a bebaptized calling on the name of the Lord to have his sins washed away, why didn't Paul object? Why didn't Paul tell Ananias, that his sins were washed away when he was on the road to Damscus when he first believed?

Being baptized is a command from the King himself (John 3:3-5) There's so much division with this topic and I sincerely believe its because the enemy has his hand in it, trying to stop many from being born again. Just like Pastor Chan said, why all the questions? just do and obey :) Ive heard so many arguments on this and the theories some come up with just sounds like excuses to get out of doing it, its not too late if you see the truth instead fighting it. Also look at Matthew 28:18-20.

When they asked "what shall we do?" it clearly indicates that they BELIEVED what Peter had just told them about Jesus being Lord, and the Messiah, and He deserved to be followed. So their question then was basically...ok so now what? What do we do now? Peter then said ok now you should give up your sins, die to self and testify to others by repentance and baptism. Who was baptized?- Only "Those who accepted his message"!(verse 41) Meaning those who believed that Jesus is Christ and Lord. Belief always comes first,- or baptism is just a bath. Great message.
@mikebrenneman2855 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you attitude and thoughtfulness. Right on through your statement "...die to yourself..." Afterward you made a statement that doesn't seem to line up with scripture. You said "testify to others by repentance and baptism" Can you support that with scripture? My question is sincere. In Acts8:27-39, the Ethopian eunuch was baptized with no one to witness it except Phillip the man who baptized him. Repentance is something we do to be right with God. We turn from a life of sin to a life lived for God. (Acts 17:30, 2 Peter 3:9) When we are baptized our sins are washed away Acts 22:16. Rom 6:4 teaches that after we are baptized (by faith of course) then we walk in newness of life (born again). In Rom 6:6.and our old self is crucified. That is when our sinful self dies and we are freed from sin. Hope this makes sense. God bless you in your journey.

Starting at Acts 10:34, and honestly, all of Acts 10, but for brevity… Acts 10:44-48, “While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came down on all those who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speaking in other languages and declaring the greatness of God. Then Peter responded, “Can anyone withhold water and prevent these people from being baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.” And, 2 Timothy 2:19, “Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, having this inscription: The Lord knows those who are His, and everyone who names the name of the Lord must turn away from unrighteousness.” God knows. The Gentiles mentioned in Acts 10 were neither circumcised nor baptized by water, but because God decides who receives His Holy Spirt, and when - they were blessed with the Holy Spirit by the will of God because of their faith. However, for us to be cleansed away from being children of darkness in sin, we must approach God in the light, exposing our sins in confession (to God and those we’ve sinned against) that we may be spiritually cleansed by the power of Lord Jesus Christ, and in good conscience - pursue Him always in His light and love. If you disagree with a brother or sister in Christ - pray for them and yourself that the Holy Spirit will counsel both in the truth. Peace to all, and blessings to Francis for speaking this message. 2 Peter 1:20-21, “First of all, you should know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from one’s own interpretation, because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”

You MUST be baptized to be Saved, to be a Christian. - 38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.” 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
@thaddeuskuntz91954 жыл бұрын
Helpful thoughts, but pay attention! The theme of the message seems to be: stop asking so many questions about the exact details of salvation and let’s take the steps to do what we’re supposed to do. Repent and get baptized. Action is important. As James 1:22 says, “be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.” So I would definitely agree with this. He also concluded with several great questions that we should ask ourselves: -Do you believe God is great? -Do you believe God’s way is best? -Do you want to be in love with God? -Do you want power to live out holiness? He said that if we can answer "yes" to each of these questions, then we should repent, be baptized, and receive the Holy Spirit. That makes sense, but how does a person repent of their sin without first being broken about their sin? So I would also ask these two questions. -Do you see your sin as severely sinful? -Do you see God’s power to forgive that? “Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good. Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.” -Romans 7:12-13 “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.” -Galatians 3:24 So we must first be broken about our sin, and then look to God for forgiveness of that sin. We cannot repent, if we don’t think we have anything much to repent of. And sorrow for our sin is not enough without confidence toward God for our forgiveness. Without faith it is impossible to please Him. Judas Iscariot was broken about his sin, but he was never made whole by faith. And that makes all the difference. Another key point that should be made about this message is that we must believe deeply before venturing into baptism. So although it’s true that we need to take the step of obedience and get baptized, Chan was not very clear about believing “with all thine heart” beforehand (Acts 8:37). Baptism is not optional for followers of Christ, and I could not agree with Chan more on that. But it is not a cure-all for anyone to jump into, and it does not guarantee the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. A person needs to come to terms with their sin and rest in Christ before baptism, or it may be nothing but an empty show. Faith comes by hearing and hearing comes by the Word of God. And that same Word of God is the Sword of the Spirit that brings us to sincere repentance. The only other thing that I would add is that “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:16). Chan was not clear on when exactly a person gets saved, and that should not be left open. If the Spirit of God confirms our salvation, then we are saved. Believing Christ and following him in our actions is not what we should be looking at to assure our salvation. Others may see our fruits, but we personally must have the witness of the Holy Ghost. Jesus said, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” The problem is that these people are looking at their own “wonderful” acts of supposed obedience rather than for the wonderful grace of God and for His Own Witness within them. One of the most clear and powerful passages of Scripture on this topic of eternal life with Christ is a statement made by the Lord Himself, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” We must legitimately know God to be saved, and hearing His voice (His Spirit bearing witness with our spirit) is an important part of that. We need to have clarity in this area. Teaching people that our salvation will come somewhere along the way is not sufficient. The Bible is clear that our salvation is confirmed by the Holy Spirit. Until His Spirit bears witness with our spirit, we have absolutely no way of knowing that we’re saved personally. In fact we know otherwise... “Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” We do need to take steps of obedience, but a personal witness of the Holy Spirit is the only way to point people for assurance. “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” -John 17:3

If Baptism was not optional for us TODAY, why would our Apostle Paul say that Christ sent him NOT to baptize? The truth is there was a time water baptism was necessary for salvation, but you are confused in not understanding that things have changed since Acts 2:38. The Bible clearly shows that the Gospel by which we are saved today does NOT include water baptism. In fact Ephesians 4:5 says there is only one baptism today, and 1 Corinthians 12:13 says by one Spirit are we all baptized into one Body. Getting water baptized is a work, and the Bible says our salvation today is done by Grace through Faith apart from any works of righteousness. The Bible says in Ephesians 1:12-13 that we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise through trusting in Jesus Christ and believing in the Gospel of our salvation. The Gospel of our salvation today is that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried and rose again the 3rd day according to the scriptures 1 Corinthians 15:1-4. Our Apostle Paul NEVER teaches that water baptism is necessary for salvation or that it’s necessary for a Christian to partake in. If you choose to get water baptized it is important to note that it has nothing to do with your salvation, neither is it required of God to please Him. Trust in the Gospel of Christ alone and allow the Word of God to correct you. This is a great error that must be spoken out against because millions will die believing they have done all that is required of them to be saved because they followed the Acts 2:38 requirements and in fact, they will have made the Grace of God of no effect. The Word of God is clear in that nothing can be added to Faith for our salvation today. Our Apostle is Paul according to Acts 9:15, Romans 11:13, Romans 15:16, Galatians 2:9, and Ephesians 3:1...when ever there is a contradiction between something God gave to Paul and something God gave to anyone else in the Bible to write, go with what Christ revealed to Paul. If you do that you God will give you greater understanding of the truth of the Gospel. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15 KJV “Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.” 2 Timothy 2:7 KJV

Paul preached to and Baptized the Jailor the very same hour of the night- after midnight... (Acts 16:33). 4. only after this Baptism, are we are told the Jailor "rejoiced having believed God"...(Acts 16:34)

...CORNELIUS ???….No where does the text suggest Cornelius and his family was saved or forgiven of their sins prior to Baptism- BTW which was Immediately done...The context shows, Cornelius received the gift of tongues prior to Baptism because the prejudiced Jewish Christians would have forbidden a Gentile to be baptized without a direct sign from God (Acts 10:47; Acts 11:1-3; 17-18)...In fact tongues are always a sign (1 Cor 14:22, Acts 10:45)...Cornelius’s tongues came at the very beginning of Peter’s very short Gospel message (Acts 11:15, 10:44)...we are also told in that message that Cornelius already knew of the gospel before Peter came (Acts 10:36-37)...Cornelius told Peter, that he had been instructed by an angel to send for him and be told all things commanded of God (Acts 10:33)...The truth is Cornelius already believed before Peter was called to his house...So in fact, Peter was only sent to him to baptize him...and it took repeated direct signs and visions from God to get Cornelius’s baptism done...In fact why would God even need Peter to go there.. if the Lord intended on saving Cornelius without baptism, and it could be accomplished just by sending the Spirit?

3 months ago I asked God for my forgiveness and come into my heart because I really do believe Jesus dies on the cross for all of our sins but this time has been so much different from all the times before. This time I've wanted to read my bible and pray every single day and without going to Church on Sunday or going to bible study on Wednesday I feel empty so ive since added Monday to go hear Sundays service again. I've never been baptized but I'm signed up & I can't wait but I'm learning so much I have to Thank God for accepting me its by all by his Grace but I now understand I've got work to do & want so bad to do the work to help others like me understand the steps after they are saved. Eternity is very important now instead of what I thought I use to desire in this life here on earth.

You shouldn't have to "sign up" to be baptized. Once you believe and understand what baptism is, you should be baptized. Baptism is for remission of sins (Acts 2:38), is into Christ (Romans 6:3), clothes you with Christ (Galatians 3:27), saves you (Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21). You're the right track if you're studying God's word and please make sure you continue to access the word to answer questions. For instance, if someone tells you that baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace, tell them to show you that in the scriptures. It's not there. Always side with God over men!

Live Poetic Is it not you getting into the water though? Is repenting asking for forgiveness and following God’s will mean you’re not saved? Obviously like Emerson was saying you will want to be baptized because you’re are saved, you will want to do his will. It’s not the baptism it’s self that saves you. It just doing God’s will that saves you and accept his sacrifice and him into your heart isn’t? Or now i have to be saved by going into the water? I mean i will now that i know that God say’s to, but are you really telling me I would have went to hell because I wasn’t baptized so Jesus’s sacrifice wasn’t enough? I think it was. I will be getting baptized now that I know but I just don’t agree i would have went to hell, as a confessing and truly repented Christian that has accepted the Holy Spirit, i do not believe God who is a righteous and just God would not sent me to hell for that. At least i do not believe only he knows the answer to if he would or not. That’s just my thoughts I highly suggest people get baptized if the know to do. That’s what it says in the Bible to do. I’m not taking in chances, however i do not believe it will be giving me Holy Spirit as I believe i have already received it there’s no way i could beat all the sin i have jf i hadn’t through God, Ive beaten smoking pot, anger, smoking cigs, drinking, porn, all through the power of Jesus Christ. Don’t even have temptations for alcohol or drugs anymore...There’s no way you could do that on your own. Anyways God bless you all. I’m curious as to people’s opinion on this. But please don’t just bash the heck at of me. Keep this verse in mind when evangelizing Proverbs 15 King James Version (KJV) 15 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

If baptism is a stumbling block, Satan has done his job....he doesnt care if you go to church twice a week, doesnt care if you know all the words to all the bible songs....he doesnt care if you know your bible...he knows it as well.....so if he can bring you to the edge of salvation, but convinces you that salvation does not include baptism, he has won your soul. It really doesnt matter how sincere you are, how hard you pray......baptism is commanded by Jesus and if you fail to obey His commands, the truth is not in you....but worse, you believe the lies you are telling yourself. 1 John 2:3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.

Just obey it. It’s so simple and, as usual, man makes it so difficult. Hear, believe - then you have the RIGHT to BECOME a Christian. Because you heard and believed, THEN you OBEY! SO YOU NOW Repent - Turn away from your old life, BE BAPTIZED (Christ did it FOR YOU SO YOU CAN UNDERSTAND HOW IT’S TO BE DONE - no question!!!) for the remission of your sins - they are washed away! Now go and sin no more! You now have the avenue of prayer for praise, for thankfulness for forgiveness and for requests to be made known to God.

I believe in my heart that those that want to question and debate about baptism, are being deceived. Some bring up the thief on the cross, claiming that this thief was never baptized. The Bible doesn’t specify if that thief on the cross was indeed never baptized. So, until someone can prove to me with scripture that this thief wasn’t baptized, no one will convince me that he wasn’t baptized either. Think about it. Thank you Jesús for men like Francis Chan who teaches Your truth.
@denofrobbers88455 жыл бұрын
The thief on the cross didn't need to be baptized; Jesus was still alive and had the power to forgive sins, as he had done throughout his ministry, and he forgave the thief. Baptism was instituted on the Day of Pentacost, by Peter, at the direction of Jesus earlier in Matthew 16 when he gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven for all of US to be saved (Acts 2:38-39) Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-for all whom the Lord our God will call.” If Peter had said, jump up and down on one foot three times for the forgiveness of sins, then that's what we would have to do to be saved, but he said repent and be baptized. Very simple. My opinion is that people who try and argue around it are the ones who are deceived. I believe brother Chan is right: The Bible says do it...so do it.

The Bible also says that on judgement day people will be surprised about who goes to heaven and who doesn’t and I think this will be one of the issues. Why is there a debate about whether we should be baptized or not? The Bible says we should do just do it. Jesus himself said without it you won’t be saved. The Bible isn’t against it so if you are speculating just do it because it won’t hurt you or you’re relationship with God and it would be really sad to know that the Christians who didn’t get baptized and had faith in God but didn’t get baptized and end up in hell.

When Christ was hanging on the cross, he took one of the criminals to paradise with him. That man did not get baptized. You don't have to do it to get to heaven. Linda Hedler mark 16:16 says he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved. The man on the cross was basically on his death bed on a cross and couldn’t come down but yet he still believed in God therefore he was saved. As for us that are living and hear the word of God, should be baptized because we have the chance to. Everything we do is recorded. Many people watched this video and still denied that baptism isn’t necessary to be saved by why did Jesus himself get baptized and why does that verse and many others state we should be baptized? God won’t command us to do something that isn’t necessary.

Linda Hedler I really don’t get why people are running from baptism. The Bible says we should be baptized for remission of sins. A command isn’t just given for no reason and the Bible states the reason in many scriptures so don’t be ignorant and try to say we don’t have to to be saved. The reason the Bible is here is to teach us the way God wants us to live. Nothing in the Bible is just a command but not a requirement. That makes no sense

As soon as I accepted Christ as my saviour because I am a sinner. I was praying out loud, I'd never done this before. Then instantly I felt the Holy Spirit. I felt a warmth inside, like I was filled with light. All that existed for the next few minutes was love, peace, calm. It was so profound, it wasn't just inside me it was enveloping me, much like a previous dream I had that led me to Christ. Then I started reading the bible and confirming what happened. I am a Gentile, under the new covenant of the new testament. I was baptised in the holy ghost that instant I believed in the holy blood of the cross. It requires no works from me. I have felt so different since that moment, my heart has been changed as many describe, I have a peace inside me I've never had. I understand the verses about us being the `body' of Christ, the `temple'. I have been considering baptism, but I'm not sure if I actually want to now. I've already given myself to Christ. I am `in' Jesus ready for his return as the spiritual ark. But I do think it may be a good thing to show my faith publically.

God Bless you and welcome to the body of Christ...I had same reaction when I prayed and asked God out loud to help me and show me His meaning of true love. I was then tested to forgive and just when I forgave this awful sin against me I realized my sin burden was lifted and I was saved by faith through the Holy Spirit. The Lord God taught me we are baptized at birth with water and later through faith by the Holy Spirit. We must be born of water and the spirit as written in the bible and also many do not know that is when we are born again, less a man be born again he will not enter the kingdom of God. In my rebirth I even died and was reborn in that same moment as I see my life flash before my eyes in just a few seconds like I always seen in movies but never understood and I truly could see with open eyes. Jesus has the power over life and death so only through Him could this be possible. In my life I was baptized a couple times by water but always felt empty until His Holy Baptism. When I was saved I was standing and had to lay down on the couch as I felt so weak but in total joy and comfort without even understanding what was happening for a couple minutes. To me it was not so much me forgiving another but to show God I am worthy to be forgiven. I also was directed to the bible passages showing their will be a rapture of the church before the tribulation so I know believers have eternal life. He , GOD is so wonderful and loving. You are baptized now and need not prove more. He is returning very soon to catch us away for the marriage supper of the Lamb and eternity with Him. Praise, Glory and Honor be to God All Mighty, AMEN

The water baptism was before Christs crucifiction and was not Paul's gospel to the Gentiles. Most churches don't even teach this or say Paul is mistaken etc. He says he wasn't sent to baptise but to preach `the gospel', see below Pauls Gospel after christs death and resurection: 1 Corinthians 15 King James Version (KJV) 15 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: I think this is the key. When I believed humbly in my heart the above, and repented for my sins. I then recieved the Holy Spirit. Baptised by Christ himself. I am now sealed in his spiritual ark. Because I believed in what Jesus did on the cross, it required no works from me. I think many, like myself to start with, don't put the bible in context, of the timeframe and who is being spoken to. The Jews required `signs', the gentiles require `faith'. 1 Corinthians 12:13 King James Version (KJV) 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1 Corinthians 1 King James Version (KJV) 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

@@2ndBirth Trust me..He will show you the way and supply you with the strength and wisdom so you will be comfortable and secure to share and spread the word. A good conformation is to see how John was told to Baptized the prison guard where he was kept. Was no submersion or water..Jesus is the Living water and we must be totally submerged in the Holy Spirit and He in us to be truly saved. Jesus said we must be Born again ( John 3:3) to see the Kingdom of God...Born of water and spirit... naturally in the womb and the spiritual baptism after we are born again...That is our baptism when we accept the free gift and let the Holy spirit into our life. I am no perfect preacher but I do know I was saved and it was not because of water in a building with unsaved persons but by accepting Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and he paid our sin dept in full so we may have eternal life.

@@tjhinch2532 Thanks for taking the time to give me the info. I thought the same thing when I read about baptism of water and of spirit. Mothers womb and spiritually inside of us. Like you say, the Holy Ghost does guide us, Paul talks about this all through Corinthians. I think the Holy Ghosts guidance is gentle. I was wondering about baptism and whether to get it in the name of father, son, holy ghost or in the name of Jesus Christ. Then when I was looking into it I kept thinking "Corinthians 2 1" in my head. I had a look at 1 Corinthians 1:21 assuming it is probably that verse. It says: 1 Corinthians 1:21 King James Version (KJV) 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. Maybe it isn't connected but last weekend I was reading my bible, enjoying the Sabbath on Saturday. I was looking out my window, it was late evening but still quite light with a blue sky. I saw a star blinking brightly, I moved and checked I wasn't seeing a reflection or something but it kept blinking randomly in white light. It wasn't a plane, it just blinked for a couple of minutes and then disappeared. It wasn't moving in any direction, it was just in the same position. I've never seen anything like this before. Prior to my holy ghosy experience I had a vivid dream of Jesus in a doorway and then he shined light on my all night giving me rest. This also ties in with what I've read in the bible sinse then. Jesus says he is the `door' and the `light'. God bless.

That’s awesome! So happy for you! I’m curious to know why you feel that you don’t need to be baptized because of the infilling of the Holy Ghost. The Bible makes it really clear that we must be baptized. Read Col 2:11-12, mark 16:16, Romans 6, 1 Peter 3:20-21, Acts 22:16, Acts 2:38, in Acts 10:48 it is a command by Peter. Your experience with God is wonderful, but it doesn’t mean you should not be baptized. We can’t pick and choose what we do or do not do according to scripture. You should be baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus Christ not the titles father son and Holy Ghost. The catholic encyclopedia vol 2 page 263 admits that the Catholic Church changed the wording to father, son, Holy Ghost. It should have been consistent with Luke 24:47 which says in His name, Jesus. Read the book of Acts and the scriptures in colossians and Romans. Hope this help as you begin your heavenly journey. My journey began 47 years ago and I’m still learning!😉👍

I totally agree baptism is a command. What I’m wrestling with is whether believing its part of what saves us (without faith, baptism is just getting wet) and if believing in baptism that saves us is a slap in the face to Christ saying that his death wasn’t enough to forgive by making baptism a thing I must do to obtain it. I’ve already been baptized but am concerned about making sure I teach true doctrine.

1 Peter 3:21 says that baptism saves. Baptism is only baptism if it is based on faith. Baptism is a participation in the death of Jesus Rom 6:1ff. It is the point in time when we bury the old man and rise to walk in newness of life. It washes away our sins Acts 22:16. Baptism if not based on faith is only getting wet. Also if it is not based on a commitment to a lifetime of repentance it is only getting wet. However when you believe that Jesus died for our sins, and that He is the virgin born son of God, if you are willing to repent of sin, as you confess His name, then when we are baptized we are baptized into His death. It was that death that bought our salvation collectively as mankind, and it is our penalty for sin that He takes upon himself, because the wages of sin is death. Jesus died that death for us, and we participate in his death when we are baptized. We die to sin in repentance, we bury the old man, and then we rise to walk in new life. That is what it means when it says when it is called a "washing of regeneration" Titus 3:5. That is when the grace of God is applied, because we are baptized into Christ Gal 3:27. The gospel (1 cor 15) is the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. We obey the gospel when we die, are buried, and raise to walk in newness of life. 1 Thes 1:8-9. I hope this helps. God bless you for your concern.

I appreciate you responding. Interestingly it also says in that verse that this baptism - not the removal of dirt but a pledge of a clear conscience towards God - is what saves. Could it be that baptism isn’t just water but can also mean a change of heart? Also is washing of regeneration to be taken literally? Could it mean that because we’ve been regenerated we decide to get washed? Many cite Acts 2:38 for baptism for the forgiveness of sins, though “for” translated to eis in Greek can also mean “because of.” Getting more grammatical, one could use the example that a woman is praised for her beauty. Her praise does not make her beautiful, but it leads to her praise. I definitely agree baptism should only be done with the right understanding and mindset. I fear minimizing the power of Christ’s blood by believing and teaching baptism saves, as I try to reconcile most other salvation verses that mention faith rather than water inmersion.

According to Romans 6 we get baptized *into* his death. Baptism is a way of participating in Christ's death and resurrection. It magnifies the death of Christ.

its a slap in the face to false "faith only" theology...but not to Jesus (Mark 16:16)...in fact baptism is what connects us to His death...Don't you know???. 3. Do you not know that all of us who have been BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST JESUS were BAPTIZED INTO HIS DEATH? 4 We were BURIED therefore WITH HIM BY BAPTISM INTO DEATH, in order that, just as Christ was RAISED FROM THE DEAD by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in NEWNESS OF LIFE.. God saves man by grace, when man obeys God by/through faith. When man responds by obedience, to conditions that God sets in place, by faith, God responds in providing to man. This principal has been the same from the beginning of time. Today we are to hear the word of God, the gospel. Believe that Christ is the son of God. Repent of our sins. Confess that Christ is the son of God. Then be baptized (a submissive act) by faith INTO Christ, INTO his body (the church), and at that moment when one has been buried into His death coming into contact with that which saves, the blood of Christ shed at his death, we are cleansed and washed of our sins and they are then remitted. God at that moment adds us (we don't join) the church of or belonging to Christ, the body of the saved. One is then just a Christian, nothing more and nothing less. Not a denominational Christian, just a Christian. Live faithfully although imperfect and Christ will return taking his bride, the church, the body of the saved, home to be with him in heaven. The faith that saves is the faith that obeys.

@@donaldcooley897 The first thing one should observe is that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was never given as a command to be administered by man, nor was it to be obeyed by man. The baptism of the Holy Spirit was a promise to be received by certain men chosen for a certain purpose. When Jesus spoke on the subject between His resurrection and His ascension, He appeared to the chosen apostles, speaking to them things concerning the kingdom of God (Acts 1:1-3). Among the things spoken to them were the following words: “ … wait for what the Father had promised, “Which,” {He said,} “you heard of from Me; for John baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:4-5 NAS). Overjoyed at this statement they asked, “ … Lord, is it at this time You are restoring the kingdom to Israel?” (Acts 1:6 NAS). To this question Jesus replied with the following promise, “ … It is not for you to know times or epochs which the Father has fixed by His own authority; but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth” (Acts 1:7-8 NAS). It is clear that while John could and did baptize in water it was Christ, and only Christ, who would baptize with the Holy Spirit. Another fundamental thing to be noticed here is that John did not mean to include all disciples, with reference to being baptized in the Holy Spirit; neither did he mean that all of the multitude, which heard him, would receive the baptism of fire. He simply made a prophetic declaration, regarding these matters, to the multitudes that heard him. The logical question to ask now is who was baptized with the Holy Spirit? There can be no doubt regarding those who were promised the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The promise was made to the apostles. The very nature of the baptism of the Holy Spirit will bear evidence of this fact. Having been told they would receive the promise of the Father and would be clothed with power from on high, the apostles tarried in Jerusalem, as instructed, until it should be received (Lk. 24:49; Acts 1:4). The apostles were the chosen ambassadors of Christ, to be guided by the Holy Spirit, revealing all truth (2 Cor. 5:18-20; John 16:13). In order for them to reveal all truth, and nothing but the truth, there was the necessity of complete possession of their speech and their writings, being completely endued by the Holy Spirit, or baptized with the Holy Spirit (John 15:16). The twelve, including Matthias, did wait, and on the Pentecost following the Lord’s resurrection, “ … And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance” (Acts 2:4 NAS). There follows an account of the preaching on that day and included in the preaching are both things Jesus had said to them and things He had not said to them. Peter later refers to this occasion as “the beginning” (Acts 11:15). The baptism in the Holy Spirit enabled the apostles to recall infallibly what Jesus taught and to relate infallibly what Jesus wanted men to know but which He had not taught prior to His ascension. Further, to convince men that they spoke the truth from God, the baptism of the Holy Spirit enabled the apostles to perform miracles as evidence they were God-sent (Heb. 2:3-4). Therefore, Paul could argue that he really was an apostle for he was not one whit behind the chiefest, in that he performed the signs of an apostle (2 Cor. 11:5; 12:11-12). We turn our attention to the case found in Acts 10 regarding the conversion of Cornelius and his household. First, it is important to note carefully that in Acts 11, and according to verse 4, Peter explained all the circumstances surrounding the conversion of Cornelius according to the order of occurrence! “But Peter began {speaking} and {proceeded} to explain to them in orderly sequence … ” (Acts 11:4 NAS). Then in verse 15 Peter said, “And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as {He did} upon us at the beginning.” If the Spirit fell upon Cornelius as Peter began speaking, then it is clear that when the Spirit came Peter had not been speaking. And, if Peter had not been speaking, and if saving faith comes by the hearing of the Word (Rom. 10:17), then when the Spirit came Cornelius was without saving faith (in the Christ). And, if Cornelius was a Christian when the Spirit came, then he was a Christian without faith in Christ and without complying with the terms of the gospel of Christ. The fact of the matter is that Cornelius was to come to have the salvation in the Christ as a consequence of the words which Peter would speak to him (Acts 11:14). At the time the Holy Spirit came upon Cornelius these words had not been spoken. Later, Peter commanded Cornelius and his household “to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 10:48 NAS). This baptism, in the name of Christ, was for remission of sins (Acts 2:38) and that he might be added to the Lord’s church (Acts 2:47). It is crystal clear that the baptism of the Holy Spirit on Cornelius, in Acts 10, had nothing to do with salvation from alien sins! What, then, was the purpose of Holy Spirit baptism? In Acts 2 the purpose was to make it clear to Jewish people that it was God’s plan for them to hear, to believe, and to obey the pure gospel of Jesus Christ. However, in Acts 10 the purpose was to make it clear to Jews and to Gentiles that it was God’s plan for the Gentiles to hear, to believe, and to obey the gospel of Jesus Christ just as the Jews. Therefore, God has one plan for Jew and Gentile alike. The very point which convinced the Jews that Gentiles could be saved was Peter’s reference to the fact that God gave to the Gentiles the miraculous manifestation of the Holy Spirit (Acts 11:16-18). If this was the use which Peter made of the matter, it must have been the purpose for which God gave it! It must be obvious, therefore, that the baptism of the Holy Spirit was not essential to one’s salvation. In our day there is no such thing as a baptism of the Holy Spirit; and since there are only two distinct cases in the entire New Testament of Holy Spirit baptism, Holy Spirit baptism had nothing to do with salvation and the remission of sins.

Don't let someone tell you baptism isn't necessary when in all 4 Gospels baptism is mentioned and commanded - Matthew 3:14-15, 28:19, Mark 16:16, Luke 24:47, John 3:5, Acts 2:38, 2:41, 8:12, 8:16, 10:47-48, 19:5, 22:16. Be buried in the same name that was buried for you.

God’s Children , I hear you and I hope you get to as well!! I am studying the topic of baptism in some evangelical coursework! “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:16 So what this verse is saying is that unbelief brings condemnation. Other verses in scripture support this truth such as the thief on the cross who believed that Jesus was Lord. Was he baptized on the cross? No. Yet Jesus said “Today you will be with me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). In Acts 10 Cornelius exercised faith in Christ and was clearly saved prior to being baptized in water. The moment Cornelius believed in Christ, he received the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:45). What’s important: repentance and putting your trust (faith) in Christ alone for salvation. No good works can’t earn you forgiveness of sins and eternal life- not even baptism. Period. Still baptism is a step of obedience and to put it off would be disobedient to the teachings of scripture. Even Jesus was baptized as an example to us (Matthew 3:13-17). You certainly should take action to be baptized if you proclaim to be a follower of Christ. Baptism is a public declaration of obedience and of faith in Christ. Very important, but is not required to be saved. Here is some biblical support for this: “... if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:9-10) “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9) “"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:16-18 ) I am gonna pray you get an opportunity to be baptized and your parents will soften their heart and allow you to be. And maybe even support you. Because it is very important and God recognizes it as death of your flesh and reborn in the Holy Spirit. God is just and will judge us according to his will. It is very important to do though. God is the only one who knows our hearts and minds and will judge us on that as well as his word. God bless ^_^ and take care. I’ll be praying for you.

My parents are Catholic, so they were extremely angry when I said I was going to get baptized and they tried to kick me out of the house because they didn't want to get covid. What ended up happening was the guy who baptized me brought a metal tub to my backyard and I got baptized there so I didn't have to leave the house. The guy who baptized me wore gloves and a mask. Don't let this virus scare you out of your salvation. If you truly believe in Jesus and His commandment of baptism as a requirement for salvation, then nothing can stop you from receiving that salvation.

Bad Choice ...Christ commanded men too water baptize under His Authority (Mark 16:16, Matt 28:18-19)...even a worse choice since no one can "choose' to be baptized in the Holy Spirit in the first place...it only happens twice in the Bible (Pentecost and Cornelius) and no one "chose" to do it...

Water baptism is for the remission of sins. Because of the shed blood of Christ ,during water baptism the Holy Spirit remits our sins by circumcising our conscience, removing the guilt from past sins, and restoring it to its' original childlike sensitivity to wilful sin. This is the new covenants' antitype of the old covenants type of cleansing the temple with blood and water in order for the Spirit of God to occupy it. Under the old covenant the Spirit would only occupy the temple temporarily because as the writer of Hebrew wrote that the blood of bulls and goats could remove " consciousness of sins" which is guilt. The blood of Christ can so that the Holy Spirit can permanently occupy the temple of our bodys'.

Amen! Finally, someone in the comment section understands baptism. Kudos to Francis Chan for realizing the necessity of baptism for receiving the Holy Spirit too, for without the indwelling of the Spirit of God there is no remission of sin either because we cannot achieve it on our own. Baptism is God's providence for all this to take place. All we need to do is trust the Word of God and obey.

Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? Far from it! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for the one who has died is freed from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all time; but [i]the life that He lives, He lives to God. So you too, consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus."

Why did Christ send Paul NOT to Baptize in 1 Cor 1:14-17? Paul later declares the gospel in 1 Cor 15:1-4 he doesn't mention water baptism at all. Paul was addressing the problem of people using the person who baptized them as something important. He was talking about division in the body not how to be saved.
@russjwyatt9 күн бұрын
Did Christ give Paul a changed mission of how to make disciples compared to the other Apostles? Check out Matthew 28:16-20 and Mark 16:14-ff. In Corinthians, Paul is addressing sectarianism, not the doctrine of baptism, as @frankhorn1071 said. Just because some verses focus on belief or faith doesn't mean you can neglect other commands. Would you say, "faith only, but you don't have to believe or repent?" It says belief in Eph 1, but there is no mention of repentance. What person can be saved without repenting? Everybody wants to uplift belief, but they don't realize that faith is realized only in obedience. That includes repentance and baptism at the beginning, not works of the flesh -- but the work of the cross.
@douglaspendergraft1055 Жыл бұрын
Adhering to the "Saved by grace alone" doctrine while throwing all the other verses out the window is a pretty gutsy move. Are we having a contest to water down the Word of God until it has absolutely no effect? If so, the entire population of the earth should read ONLY Titus 3:5 and see that Jesus already saved us by His mercy and we don't have to do a single thing. Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost If we take this one verse literally, without reading any other in the bible, one could come to the conclusion that: 1) They don't even have to "Believe in Jesus" to be saved, because this verse doesn't say anything about belief. 2) They don't need to hear the Word 3) They don't need to read the Word 3) No relationship with God/Jesus/Holy Spirit is needed. 4) Hell is completely empty because everyone already got saved by His "mercy". 5) Sin as much as you want to, because repentance (to turn away from sin) wasn't specifically mentioned in this verse. If this is the case, then ask yourself: Why is there even a judgment of man (Revelation 20:12-15)? And why is there even a Bible? If one is going to take the "minimalist" doctrine to the nth degree, then you should end up something similar to the above. Take this approach and you will eventually find out that God is NOT playing around. He will not be mocked and ignored. In flaming fire, God will take vengeance on those that do not know Him and do not obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9). The Word of God commands us to make our calling and election "sure", not "wishy-washy" (2 Peter 1:10). It also instructs us to study the word to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15). The best policy is to read the ENTIRE Word of God for yourself to find out what the TRUE DOCTRINE and TRUE GOSPEL really is and then OBEY that gospel. If you are geniunely seeking God, He will most definitely fill in the blanks on any questions you have. All you have to do is ask Him. Don't take wreckless chances. When the disciples preached the Gospel, what did the hearers of that gospel actually do? They repented. They got baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of those sins. They received the Promise of the Father - The baptism of the Holy Ghost.

"Washing" (as in Titus 3:5) and baptism are synonymous according to Justin Martyr who wrote that only 60 years after the apostle John passed. The scripture also links the word "wash" with baptism as in Acts 22:16. So baptism is how we are born again according to Titus 3:5 just like John 3:5 (and Justin Martyr, Irenaeus of Lyon, Augustine, et.al.).

Listened to this message again, and Brother Chan makes a minor biblical error. Peter doesn't say that Noah was saved through the ark, but that he was saved through the water (1 Peter 3:20). Noah was saved through the flood just as the Israelites were saved through the Red Sea. Just as the Israelites were saved from the evil that bonded them, and Noah from wickedness and violence that afflicted him, and how both were brought into a new life of freedom from these, we are freed from the wickedness and bondage in our lives to sin and death, and made free towards God through baptism (Romans 6:2-11.).

@@RandomMan7491, I'm sorry I didn't see this post 7 months ago, and I hope since all is well with you and yours. And Happy New Year! "Trusting in Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life" is not a scripture passage but a catchphrase within the "by grace alone, through faith alone" community. We all claim to trust in Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life, because he has the words of eternal life John 6:68, John 12:48-50, we trust the author of salvation Hebrews 2:10 and whatever He says about how to be saved. But when "by grace alone, through faith alone" folk say this statement, they don't mean it in the general sense, they mean the prayer(ish) "Lord Jesus I put my trust in you for my salvation, etc.". Since its adherents have gotten accustomed to this non-scriptural method of being saved, anything after or outside of that prayer seems like "extra", doesn't it? Hence your question. You've made or bought into the "Lord Jesus I put my trust in you for my salvation, etc." prayer(ish) as the standard from which to judge other things. After having done so, he can then safely die in a car accident. But those who haven't accustomed themselves to this non-scriptural abbreviated prayerish method of being saved, all scriptures pertaining to being saved including those pertaining to believing, confessing the Lord Jesus Romans 10:9-10, and being baptized calling in His name Acts 22:16 (and a good amount of others) don't seem "extra", but part of John 6:68 John 12:48-50 as it was originally written, before the reformation abbreviated it. The question is accurately, what happens if someone dies in a car accident before he is saved, we all know the answer to that question. Whatever the Bible teaches on how to be saved (however that may be), Bible teachings cannot be manipulated by scenarios we come up with to say, "I don't like what the Bible says, so let me present a scenario, so that the Bible can't be true." And in such situations, God is in control. I am surprised anybody is still using the car accident argument. It has been debunked and buried so many times, I didn't think it was still in use.

They were then immediately COMMANDED BY PETER, "AND HE COMMANDED THEM TO BE BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF THE LORD." ACTS 10:48. Peter didn't give them a choice. You don't know your Bible, you just preach what you have been taught of men. The Bible tells us of resistance to the Holy Ghost, "Ye STIFFNECKED and uncircumcised in the heart and ears, ye do always resist the HOLY GHOST, as your fathers did so do ye." ACTS 7:51. because the Holy Ghost CANNOT DWELL IN a DISOBEDIENT PERSON. God gives the Holy Ghost to all those that OBEY, "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the HOLY GHOST, whom God hath Given to them that obey Him" ACTS 5:32. Jesus Christ Commanded the Apostles to BAPTIZE all nations in MATTHEW 28:19, THE GREAT COMMISSION. "Go ye and preach the gospel to all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." MATTHEW 28:19. Jesus Christ also tells Nicodemus that a man must be born of the water and of the spirit to ENTER the Kingdom of God. "JESUS ANSWERED, VERILY, VERILY I SAY UNTO THEE, EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN OF WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT, HE CANNOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD." JOHN 3:5. Another scripture is, "HE THAT BELIEVETH AND IS BAPTIZED SHALL BE SAVED; BUT HE THAT BELIEVETH NOT SHALL BE DAMNED" MARK 16:16. The Bible talks about the true JEW, since you are interested in JEWS. The scripture TELLS US, that, "For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh" ROMANS 2:28. "BUT HE IS A JEW, WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; AND CIRCUMCISION IS THAT OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER, WHOSE PRAISE IS NOT OF MEN, BUT OF GOD" ROMANS 2:29. What these scriptures tell us is just because a JEW is BORN IN ISRAEL, he is not a true JEW, nor does God take Circumcision of the FLESH to consider them a JEW. He prefers CIRCUMCISION of the HEART and of the SPIRIT, that is the TRUE JEW, INWARDLY NOT OUTWARDLY AS YOU KEEP REFERRING TO. GOD BLESS YOU AND HOPE THAT ONE DAY YOU REALIZE THAT YOU ARE WORKING AGAINST THE HOLY GHOST. GOD WILL REQUIRE IT OF YOU IN THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT.

Jay Mart you are a broken record. You haven’t addressed any of my other points and all you do is repeat the same thing over and over again. The same verses over and over again. The text is very clear, He breathes on them and they received the Holy Spirit. You can twist it to fit your theology but that’s all you are doing.

He says, receive ye the Holy Ghost....but it wasn't until Pentacost that it manifested itself in them, after He had Ascended up into heaven like Christ Jesus said in the scriptures. The Word of God is not for Disputations.....and I only say this because readers will be misguided, and Jesus Christ doesn't want ANY TO BE LOST. The Holy Ghost DID NOT MANIFEST itself upon the APOSTLES until PENTACOST. ONLY after JESUS CHRIST had ascended.....If BAPTISM is not important to receive the Holy Ghost, WHY did the Apostle Paul have to Re-Baptize the people in order for them to RECEIVE THE HOLY GHOST in ACTS 19:3 through ACTS 19:6? Answer me that question EINSTIEN!
@jaymart23555 жыл бұрын
He says, "Receive ye the Holy Ghost, but it wasn't manifested until until Pentacost. In John 16:7, we find where the Apostles are told by Jesus Christ that He must go up into heaven because if He DOESN'T GO AWAY, the COMFORTER (HOLY GHOST) WILL NOT COME UNTO YOU. "Nevertheless I tell you the TRUTH, it is expedient for you that I go away, FOR IF I GO NOT AWAY, THE COMFORTER WILL NOT COME UNTO YOU, but if I depart , I will send HIM unto you." JOHN16:7. So you see, Christ Jesus had to go away to send the Holy Ghost unto them, and He clearly says, if He stays, He cannot send the Comforter unto them. He did breathe on them to receive the Holy Ghost, but it wasn't manifested until PENTACOST. AMEN! AMEN!!!

Thank you, finally someone said what needed to be said, and not what half believers wanted to here to settle their guilt
@bryan9225 жыл бұрын
Cristian _ it’s a very rude thing to label those that don’t believe our salvation is based upon baptism as “half believers”. Especially when there are a slew of verses that preach the contrary. Here’s one where GENTILES (which you are if you are not a Jew) received the Holy Spirit just as Jesus said they would. “And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.” Acts 11:15-18 KJV Don’t turn this into something that divides the body of Christ. The world attacks Christians enough and we don’t need to start turning on each other. Let iron sharpen iron and let’s hash these things out instead of writing off a large portion of Christ’s followers. Please, explain how the verse above backs up the necessity for baptism in order to receive the Holy Spirit. I encourage you to investigate whom Peter was addressing on the day of Pentecost. Something changed between Jew and Gentile after the death of Thomas. The New covenant was formed and Jews had to be washed with water per their laws in order to be ushered into the new covenant. Gentiles were never part of the old covenant. Something changed... to deny this is a blatant disregard of the scriptures.

We must go back to apostolic times. When Jesus has simplified things it's the people who adds into his teachings and make things harder. We must believe the word of Jesus which gives us a clear understanding of our bearings that leads us to a change to be baptised. Belief is the key. Because it's disbelief that led to every other sin. Jesus paid it all for sin. The gift of Holy Spirit is a promise to every believer. We are sealed by the Holy Spirit for the redemption at his return. He works with us through his Spirit. Baptism is a must in Gods redemption plan. Our Saviour Jesus who was God in the flesh sets the example when he was baptised in the river Jordan. I wish u quote every scripture on the subject. At least stage by stage. God bless u.

@@Platypus_Official no. water baptim is not required. it is a good thing to do though
@M16Her04 жыл бұрын
@@Platypus_Official I’d encourage you to study that on your own. My understanding is yes that is what was commanded. Read through the gospels and then follow up with acts which serves the purpose of establishing the church and spreading the gospel from the apostles to the new converts. Consider the fact that Jesus commands baptism at the end of the gospels (one example is Mathew 28:18-20) and then when the apostles carry on the teaching Acts 2:38 commands baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins paralleling John’s baptism teaching at the beginning of the gospels. Look at all of the conversion accounts through Acts where water baptism is an initial step to conversion and not an after thought. There are plenty other scriptures looking at baptism this way (my favorite is 1 Peter 3:21 where it literally says baptism now SAVES you) and far less that can be interpreted as baptism being unnecessary. If you need more on this I’d encourage just studying the Bible without the influence of others. God makes what is necessary obvious but we still need to put in the effort to study and actually read what He wants. I’ll be praying for you as God shows you what He wants.

@@Platypus_Official The scripture says man shall not live by bread alone but by every word of God. We see Jesus quote his very words when the devil tried to tempt him. Why I say Jesus is because during the old Covenant period he was Lord God. A and in the New Covenant he's Lord Jesus Christ. There never existed more than one divine being from eternity. The old testament is very clear about it. We must look at things through God's plan of salvation. Obedience to his word and the examples he has set is of importance. True faith comes from his word as the scripture says. Jesus says we must continue as the scripture says. We see preachers misled people. We need to understand what baptism pictures through the scripture. The word of God is eternal. Believers receive the Holy Spirit of God as a gift after baptism. They first believe the word of God which lead them to be baptised. Its not just a ritual but the step to salvation Jesus being the lamb of God who took away the sins of the world. We see it honoured by believers when the New Covenant church was inaugerated. Many things took place. Look to what the apostles and prophet did and believed. The foundation of the church is laid on them. God bless you. Pls be free to ask anything you need to know.

Angela - I hope you have found a way to be immersed in water for the forgiveness of sins - as so clearly taught in scripture. If you can contact a Church of Christ they do believe in the importance of Baptism and pray that God will lead you to the right place and people to help you with this. It can be in a pool or a lake or a stock tank as long as there is enough water to be immersed and someone there to help you do that. I'll pray for you - don't dismiss the clear examples as given in the book of Acts as so many will advise.

Angela Collins listen to Acts 2:38. You’re on the right track. Make sure they baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Acts 4:10-12 there is no other name that saves us. Colossians 3:17- Do all in the name of Jesus Christ! It is very important to baptize in the name that has power like the Bible says. No one in the Bible was ever baptized in the titles Father son Holy Ghost all were baptized in Jesus Christ name. Look for an Apostolic/ Pentecostal Jesus Christ name only church. All these other churches will reject Jesus Christ name baptism. Baptism is a part of salvation not the full plan but it is a command. John3:5- Verily Verily I say unto the, Unless a man is born of the water and of the Spirit he can not enter the Kingdom Of God. Listen to that!

well said.. The believers prayer is based on a "faith only" doctrine.. In my mind it is possibly one of the most deadly false teachings because it is literally disobedient to God's will.. When Naaman was upset for being told to dip seven times in the Jordan river to cleanse his leprosy, his servant asked, if you were told to do some great thing wouldn't you have done it?.. Obedience is a vital ingredient in the kind of faith that saves.. We are saved by grace THROUGH faith.. not "because" of faith.. The word "through" faith implies an action. . I've heard all of the arguments like "baptism is a "work" and we aren't saved by works.. ...but faith without works is dead.. so what gives? The way I interpret it is that there are differing works. works of the flesh, works of self righteousness etc etc AND works of obedient faith.. Scripture falls into place and I don't even have to tear James out of my Bible because he doesn't contradict Paul after all lol.. So baptism is an act (work) of obedience to a specific command with a specific result.. " ...shall be saved".. Did dunking me in water save me.. no, according to Peter.. but God recognizes faith that is willing to be like Naaman and obey.. just like Naaman was cleansed because his obedient actions were fueled by faith that God would do what He said He would do.. so too baptism saves us when we appeal, through faith, to God in obedience to a simple command in full expectation that Christ will make good on His promise.

What exactly is “Gods will”?
@cavalryscout87204 жыл бұрын
@@DeeMoney-rj4rj The opposite of self will. If God commands something of us, He didn't command it without a purpose so it is His "will" that we obey that command. To obey that command is to have faith by being "willing" to submit to God, KNOWING that He has our interests at heart whether we understand or not or whether it seem logical or not. The command of baptism for instance isn't logical to the human mind to have the ability to do anything but rinse the dust off our bodies. But Christ said "he who believes and is baptized shall be saved.." Those who reject that simple command exercise their own will above God's will. God is not "willing" that any should perish but that all should come to repentence... We are told in scripture to "search the scriptures daily to show yourselves approved before God" Seeking God's will is a life of faith. People who choose to ignore this are simply putting their own will over God's and they don't understand the concept of eternity. Life on this earth is "but a vapor" and no pleasure from it is has any worth by comparison to eternity. . Sorry my response is so long to such a short question, but there is no short answer. In order to understand God's will completely is impossible .. that's where faith comes in. Just know that we were created for a purpose.. and our ability to choose to accept or reject that purpose is an integral part of the purpose.
