I once got permission to go into a Farm Pond that was really big. The pond had been there for about 30 years and was stocked. No fishing in it at that time till I started and that was about the third year they let folks go in. I had my little boat in the water and I was fishing with a worm lure I made. The bass in that water was really big and I lost one of them. I mean I had a fight. But when He saw the boat, it took one more last-ditch and I lost it. So I too know what it's like to lose fish. And it gets frustrating. Even when I fish the Gulf Of Mexico. Good video my friend. Blessings Bishop Keith Kirby

I'm betting they were 'short striking' and not getting the hook. The best way to combat that is downsize your lure. The one who barely grabbed the end of the jointed crankbait was a big clue. I would have dropped to a 2" (or less) grub, or a fluke/soft plastic swimming lure. Also, I would have matched the size of the jig to the size of the lure.
@68bwild4 жыл бұрын

Jon sometimes fish don't stay hooked.This may sound dumb but could it be that you hooks are dull.Maybe it has to do with your reel but honestly l think it could be the randomness of fishing that we see sometimes.

The medium light should have been good enough with the ned rig on them fish, but I'm curious to know if a medium or medium heavy would have helped your hook sets stay in better. Might not have made a difference and just been one of those days. We all have them.

Wider hook, or smaller plastic... or small square lip crankbaits with normal size treble hooks.

Fun video! I'm super curious about why they were all coming off so often... makes me wonder about trying a different color in the same bait. Edit: well after watching more, you did change the jig weight and that definitely seemed to help! Great idea, I wouldn't normally think about them "feeling the weight" when they pick it up.

When the going gets tough, and you keep losing fish like that, try tying on a stinger hook, which you'll want to position at the back of the lure and/or bait. What'll happen, sometimes, is that, with only one hook at or near the center of the lure (Or bait), the fish will strike the back part of the lure, close it's mouth around it at the back part, and will actually start fighting with the back part of the lure, and won't let go, until they just, for some reason, just open their mouth, and let go of the lure. A stinger hook can prevent you losing fish like that. It's very effective! Try it. It'll increase the number of fish that you catch!
@sammarkey6724 жыл бұрын
I had to laugh at the first one, only because I know the feeling.... On days like that you gotta play them with your drag. Let them pull a bit of drag and they tend to jump less. Edit: I wrote this before I watched to then end and you did loosen it, lol

Often when it rains the fish have plenty to eat, and they don't feed as hard.
