Well, for me it was pretty good made. It never scared me, i liked LZ music, and drowning music. It's so perfect! I even heard to it when i was like.. *counts* 5 years old. I know a glitch on sonic 1, it's called the infinite lives glitch. follow the steps: 1. get to labyrinth zone act 1 2. get to the flowing part 3. get down to 1 life 4. when the drowning timer reaches 2, grab the bar with the spikes at the top right corner of the bar, but don't let go of the bar, sonic will drown then die of the spikes at the same time then watch the life counter, if the counter is glitched then you will now have the maximum lifes ( 255 )

Every time that drowning music started, even though I knew I had 5 seconds left, i would panic and my heart would beat faster. I would sometimes just chill beside the air bubbles for a few minutes, getting prepared for next section of fear inducing underwater mayhem.

Time limits always stressed me the hell out too. I forgot about sonic drowning, but reflecting back to when I was 14 (when sonic was released on the Genesis) it would stress me the hell out. Not to mention how dramatic the music got. But I liked the Labyrinth zone's music. It was just very catchy. But the two worse time limits for me was the end of Metroid on the NES and pretty much the entire game of Impossible Mission for the Commodore 64.

2:57 the drowning timer or breath timer theme was really overwhelming to me as a kid, but once I figured out that the bubbles in sonic were safety written in an implemented way, I find it a very good way of survival and if you don't hear the breath timer theme, don't worry, if it's on tails, there's no need to worry!

Most creepy time limit in my childhood: Kirby mass attack's drowning sequence. Lose all your air, and all your kirbys DIE. And go straight to heaven. No lives, nothing. Just death. Wes Rubincan The only animatronics that get you when you run outta power is Freddy Fazbear or Golden Freddy(if you summoned him in before the power ran out). It would have been cool if Scott implemented a thing where there is a random chance for any animatronic,such as Bonnie or Chica or Foxy,to attack you if you run out of power.

in one of the trio (I don't know which) but the only space I know of that you can drown in is a tiny puddle. It looks pathetic when your drowning the fastest thing alive in some collected water from rain.

Even though Sonic 1 & 2 are good games, I'm not a fan of these games especially considering that those games feels like the prototype of Sonic CD and the famous Sonic 3 & Knuckles(Even though it wasn't as perfect & it wasn't nearly as fun as Super Mario World, it's without the doubt my absolute favorite Sonic game I've ever played.) In fact, I call those games a bit overrated(Abysmal water physics aside, enemy placement can be dickish at times like the unholy trio of Metropolis Zone, some level designs being infuriating especially the infamous Labyrinth Zone, the requirements to access the Chaos Emerald Stage is darn near impossible to complete since if you'll lose all the rings if you get hit without the shield powerups, the special stage being frustrating as hell especially the half-pipe design from Sonic 2 where the controls is on the slippery & has the obstacles being almost unpredictable, & the fact that no save feature during it's time unlike Sonic CD or S3&K). Don't worry though, it's not as overrated as the Sonic Adventure series(I'm dead serious! These game just age terribly if it wasn't for too many fatal design flaws & bad design choices. Knuckles' gameplay being frustrating as hell especially SA2, Amy's gameplay is mediocre, Gamma's gameplay being infuriating, Rogue's gameplay being as ripoff of Knuckles' gameplay, the walkers from Tails & Dr. Robotnik from SA2 having clunky controls leading to frustrations, hubworlds being so confusing which is why I prefer the hubworlds of 3D Mario games better, & who couldn't forget the infamous Big the Cat & his gameplay being the worst part of SA1). Even though I'm not a fan of Sonic 1 or 2, I still think they're the consistent Sonic games that help SEGA becoming the worthy rival of Nintendo & their mascot Mario before starting to become unworthy with the poor start with 3D Blast & Sega Saturn(Having no true Sonic games on that console whatsoever. Oh yeah, far worst than the Wii U. The Wii U may have troubling times as of right now, but at least this console does have Wind Waker HD & 2 Mario games, and soon we'll have a brand new Donkey Kong game coming in Feb. 21st. Oh, in the very future this year, Super Smash Bros. Wii U. Lastly, in the very future like a few years later, a brand new Wii U Zelda game.) When I think of Sonic games, I think of Sonic CD(Digital Port), S3&K, Advance series, Rush series, Colors, & Generations. But when I think of platformer series or video game mascot in general, I think of Mario than anything else.

You know what's funny? The well-known Sonic 2 prototype build that Simon Wai discovered did Aquatic Ruin act 2 a bit differently: instead of plunking you into a long underwater section of you miss the swinging platforms, that build just had a bottomless pit!

I remember playing chemical plant zone 2 and being so frustrated at the water parts,after a week or so i was able to skip the water,but the robotnick boss is really hard and if you hit him once ir twice you might move to the water

The drowning in colors is really creepy. Though in Sonic 2 it looked really weird (--> the moment you waited for time to run out to show that he does not die right away) how he just does his regular idle animations before dieing

Drowning Time Limits weren't in the SEGA Master System and SEGA Game Gear, also known as the 8-bit consoles. They don't have a time limit when you are drowning, just a frequent beep that just gets louder until you drown. The SEGA Genesis also known as the 16-bit consoles had the drowning theme which would warn you of drowning. This makes the 8-bit version very hard.
