I'm thinking I'll add this but make it so the door is partially open with a flickering flame light behind so it looks like you have a working cremation furnace.

@@VanOaksProps That really is a great idea. Unless it's bad form I think that'd make a great video. I'd love to see how you'd do it.

Add a small viewing port door in the top 1/3 section. gave that open with a flickering light behind. Also smoke damage should come out the top of the door ( hot air rises)

it would even increase the effect if you include one of these hands grabbing around a door that you can find on thingyverse or other sites

I have to say, you are one of the few KZbinrs that has a voice I truly enjoy listening to. Not only that, but I love your techniques. I'm wanting to make faux iron beams for a ceiling and just learned how!! Thanks so much and I'm starting a binge watch session!!

Wouldn't there ALSO be smoke/fire damage on the top of the door? Also what about a founders logo on the front in the "cast Iron" ie. Vanoaks Metal Works, Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, Est. 1776?

Sweet! Love the textured spray much better looking than using hammered spray paint. Have to buy a can of that (don’t know what I’ll use it on) but I’ll be ready. 👍🏻❤️

for rust you can add a little bit of sand. And spray paint it. It would look more rusty. At this point door and all hinges looks brand new. They need some imperfections.

Thanks bunches for all you do. It's always appreciated when you add a video like this to the mix. Sure, I enjoy the ones where things are created from your 3-D printers, but only the finishing techniques will ever be used in my prop making. When you create a prop from stuff I can afford to cobble together from free and inexpensive stuff, then that's a prop I can transfer almost directly to my haunt. I'm working on metal doors even as we speak, and the hinges and door bolts will become a part of what I'm doing. :) Thanks again.

I hear you and appreciate where you're coming from. Honestly, most of these projects don't require those tools - they just require the time to build them differently, which is something I don't always have.
@beckymurphy47146 ай бұрын
I agree. I have a limited "fun stuff" budget, and I appreciate builders (costume or props) who produce videos for things that don't require expensive equipment. Sadly many of the channels I subscribed to because they were "build this on a budget" types are now moving into doing things with 3D printers and laser cutters. (And before anyone in the comments suggests it - there is nowhere near me with a "maker lab" where I could print/cut things for myself, nor can I afford to commission someone.)

As someone who does this for a living and severely lacks the time to film this sort of content, it's very helpful when I get questions about various methods because i know if i send them any of your videos to watch I am confident they will learn from someone who is skilled, thorough, and enjoyable to watch 👍🏻 much love D!

I don't have any experience with crematoriums but on wood stoves the smoke usually leaves dark patches around the top of the door not the bottom.

I bought 2 small vintage coal shuttle doors in iron from an antiques market. One was plain like yours & 1 had a beautiful decoration. My hubby cemented them onto our bricked columns. Then we had to sell the house and leave them there. Lately I've been thinking about them and considering making them for pretend like you. It's weird, this is the 2nd project you've done what was in my mind to do too. The other was the old telephone which I dubbed the Molls phone. 😁 btw watch you don't hurt your back. Looks so heavy 🤣

Wow! This one got the creative juices flowing. The last several years we’ve focused on the outside decor, but now I’m working on concepts for inside. One idea I’ve had is to make fake doors outside our guest room and office doors with effects incorporated. This build of yours would work great extended to a full door, where a monster or insane asylum prisoner were locked up, with a prop motor to rattle it randomly. Or even make the whole hatch door out of EVA, and then have a hand or head pressing through it from behind. [Me stroking my beard, awash in thoughts…] Thanks as always for the inspirations and techniques. Only five months to Halloween!

Hi Derick, wow, another fantastic piece of work! It looks simply sensational. I've learned a lot again, simply brilliant techniques. However, I'm going to do something other than a crematorium door, because in Germany I would get a huge shitstorm for that.

Love all of your builds! Wouldn't the smoke come out of the top of the door?
@VanOaksProps6 ай бұрын
🤦🏻 Yep. It might come from the bottom too since the fire would be lower than the bottom of the door. But it would absolutely be at the top.

Was it a lack of caulk or another reason you didn’t just fill in the seams of the edging around the door?
@VanOaksProps6 ай бұрын
I didn't mind the seams around the door and didn't think they needed it. Plus it kind of gave it a more handmade look, which helped to play into the idea of an old man-made oven door.
