You my friend are a gifted soul and one of your great skills is being able to teach so that anyone can understand it. One of the many reasons why others leave selfish feedback is that they lack good role models like yourself and thus respond selfishly to most people(unless of course if they are trying to GET something through manipulation). They needed someone like you when they were younger to teach them how to be a good human being. True leaders always GIVE something... Thank you for giving and remain Awesome Blossom BTW, I am enjoying all of your videos while learning to create, thanks to you, and I am now a happy subscriber

Thanks, Bradiation. I actually quit doing this for a month because the more I gave, the more people demanded. But after meeting a bunch of gracious viewers at LiveWorx, I decided to do it for them. It is aggravating when people demand certain videos or ask for free technical support / consulting, and they haven't supported the channel by buying an ebook or a tee shirt or joining my Patreon. I don't expect viewers to do any of that, but I've expressed many times that I'm too busy to help people for free. Thanks for watching and subscribing.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! You saved my life by showing me the config setting "comp_assemble_start" set to "move_then_place"! I've been using Proe/Creo for many years and I have always been annoyed how, especially on large assemblies, the part always comes in very far away from where I want to place it and the "separate window" placement mode always gets messed up. I think I may have wasted half a man-year on not knowing this super useful feature. Why isn't "move_then_place" set by default? I think it is a gift from PTC to Creo consultants.
@CADPLMGuy

I used to teach it in my Intro to Pro E classes 20 years ago for that very reason. I set that as the default at Blue Origin and people HATED it. They said it was an extra mouse click to drop it somewhere before adding constraints.
@roberthigbee3260
@roberthigbee3260 Жыл бұрын
@@CADPLMGuy Hated it? Well they clearly weren't working on large assemblies. I also taught Creo for a few years. Some of my students barely knew how to use a mouse while others used Creo on the job. Very hard to strike a balance with such a diverse set of incoming skills.

It was Blue Origin, so we’re talking about New Shepard and New Glenn rockets. So very, very large assemblies, both physically and in terms of components.

@@CADPLMGuy Blue Origin - very cool. BTW, I’ve been trying the new assembly configuration option that lets new items come in attached to the cursor and it is not as great as I initially had hoped…. Still worth using though. Here’s the deal - this config option only locks the incoming item to two out of the three spatial coordinates meaning that the incoming item looks like it is where you want it, but actually, the coordinate in and out of the computer monitor might be dozens of feet away meaning when you start to place the item, it flits off-screen. Through experimentation, I found that if you use the reorient command to orient your assembly so that it is inline with the global coordinate axis you then can make your first placement constraint a coincident constraint and lock one of the item’s surfaces to an assembly surface parallel with the screen which will lock the item to where you really want it to be. It is too bad Creo software engineers haven’t addressed this shortcoming. It wouldn’t be too hard to revise the subroutine to set the coordinate perpendicular to the screen to a value close to the assembly object nearest the cursor, a 3D snap sort of thing.

I am a new user and I find CREO to be very complex to learn. That being said, you seem to have a very good understanding of how to navigate the commands in this program. I am curious how many years you have been using Proe/CREO to be this proficient.

@@CADPLMGuy Wow. I've been using ProE since ~1997, pre-wildfire days back when it only ran on Unix and everyone had Sun Sparc computers. I have only recently been working on huge assemblies where this configuration setting is super useful. I also ran RASNA FEA before it was bought by PTC. Today I finally got annoyed enough to do some research which is how I found your KZbin. I first tried the PTC knowledge database which I've found to mostly be a useless jumble. A million thanks to you!!

question.. in solidworks, you can create a ASM file (rack unit subassy) with certain settings, then install that into a top level ASM (rack bay assy) along with other items (cables, nuts, bolts , components). then due to the settings, in the dwg BOM for the top level assy, the rack unit subassy asm file would not show up as an item.. but the items in that sub assy ASM would show up separately in the drw BOM.. can creo do that? thank you
@CADPLMGuy

Short answer is yes, but it is recommended that you manage the BOM in Windchill that way using phantom parts.

When people write comments, they should remember there's a person on the other side. Your comment has no context and looks like another complaint - of which I get plenty. My comments and my email is full of complaints, and people telling me to make certain videos, and asking for free assistance, and even asking me for money. One day you wake up and realize "I don't need this and maybe people don't deserve this."
