Thank you for sharing your wisdom! Any recommendations on pairings? Clueless on what factors I should consider when pairing my extreme harlequin
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 5 ай бұрын
Pairing depends on a lot of factors. I find it hard sometimes to do my pairings. The main key is to think of what you want to produce, not who would you pair with who. Think of the kid you want to produce (red lilly white, superdalmatian...) instead of thinking "oh, i think this girl would make some nice kids with this boy". I'd say a common mistake is purchasing animals without knowing what the project you are working on is. I would pair an extreme harlequin to another extreme harlequin and make extreme harlequin babies. If it's a male and has very good head structure, you have more options, since you want his genes in many kids. I have a great tricolor extreme that has been paired to 6 females this year. 2 lilly Whites, 2 extremes, and 2 flames. I could make a video on how to choose your pairings, but I believe I need more experience to do that video

loved the video, but on the meiosis couldn't it have the ones that didn't die just mix the genes for lily white in the crossing over and make a different lily white?
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 2 ай бұрын
@@negio6391 Hey! I dont really understand your question. Do you mean that when breeding a lilly to a lilly theres a chance of making a live superlilly or just making a different lilly white? sorry for the inconvenience, but please reword it so i can understand the question!
@negio6391
@negio6391 2 ай бұрын
@@Carebugss like meiosis is what the cells on his testis and ovaryes do to make gametes, and in this process of meiosis there's a thing that happens called crossing over, and this mixes genes from the father/ mother. (so the expression could increase or diminish)

With the logic presented, Lilly White would be Dominant Lethal, not Recessive Lethal, since it only requires one copy to be visual.
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 2 ай бұрын
@@Idotheh no,If it was dominant lethal, one copy would kill the embryo, in this case, one copy is the visual lilly white. Since you need two copies for the gecko to die, its recessive lethal. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks for asking

@@LowKeyKoqui you mean you want to know how to produce cappiccinos? the only way is by breeding a capp to a non capp, since capp to capp pairings are not ethical due to the health issues that come along with the capp superform

@Carebugss 2 ай бұрын
@@LowKeyKoqui thanks! since cappuccino is incomplete dominant, the only way is by pairing a cappuccino to a non cappuccino. In my opinion, your best bet is cappuccino to a lilly white, that way your odds are nice and you get 1/4 frapps, 1/4 capps, 1/4 lilly white and 1/4 none of the genes. Lmk if you need any questions, and you can check out our video on making frapps, it might help a little. Thanks again!

@@Carebugss if you don’t have a Lilly white what’s a other morph you’ll recommend to pair with a cap

@@LowKeyKoqui i would try a gecko with very good head structure, no spots, and a dark base color. Maybe if not a tri color. Honestly anything can look good with capp. Just make sure its spotless and good head. Theres too many capps with bad structure and only a few capps have no spots

What base color will be an offspring hatched from parents both having different dominant base colors, for example, one having black base and the other having yellow base?
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 5 ай бұрын
Hey! That's a good question that I don't know how to answer. I believe that after doing t his pairing several times you would see that there is a base that is more dominant than the other and will come out more times than the other, however, it is possible aswell that a mix of both happens. An example of this is when you breed a red base to a yellow base, some of the kids turn out to be muddy brown. However, red is not dominant, so it's a different scenario. It's a good question and I'd love being able to answer it, I'll do more research and see what I can find, however, I think someone has to prove it out.

Ok but what about a visual lily to a het lily? Are those offspring going to be unviable?
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 5 ай бұрын
All Lillies are het lillies. One copy of the gene is lilly, two copies of the gene is dead gecko. Therefore this scenario does not work. For a mutation to have a "het form" it needs to be a recessive mutation. Such as axanthic. Het means that it carries one copy only (heterozygous (different zygotes)) Lilly white is already a heterozygous mutation (Aa) and it expresses the lilly white trait. If lilly white was recessive, there could be a het form (Aa), while (AA) would be visual lilly.
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 5 ай бұрын
Check out the end of the video where I show how to predict offspring. See the recessive part and hopefully you understand where the het comes from. Dominant, incomplete dominant, and recessive lethal mutations have a het form but not the same way than a recessive. A recessive mutation het form does not express the gene but carries a copy of the gene. All those other mutations I mentioned before will carry and express the gene in their het form.

@@Carebugss Okay, thank you for the clarification. I was thinking that in other species there are some traits that won't show in offspring if both parents are visual, so you need one visual and 1 that carries or 2 that carry but are not visual.
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 5 ай бұрын
@@kathysabry8613 yes, that happens in this species too. It depends on the mutation, not the species. Lilly white does not have a het that that isn't visual. Axanthic does. Hope this helps

If i have 2 unrelated not Lilly white geckos both with a Lilly white dad and i breed them is there a chance a baby will be a Lilly?
@Carebugss
@Carebugss 6 ай бұрын
Hey! For the lilly white trait (recessive lethal) (but works the same way than an incomplete dominant) you only need one copy of the gene for it to express. This means that any gecko with one copy of the gene will be a lilly white and will be able to pass this gene to the kids. While two copies of the gene will kill the gecko, so we are not considering that option as a parent. This means, that even if there are family members with the lilly white trait, if the parents are not lilly white, there is no way you are going to produce lilly white geckos out of those two. You would need one parent to be lilly white. If you get genes that pop out of a pairing that does not show that gene, it's either a recessive gene or a random mutation (the way new genes are created (really low chances of this happening)) I hope this helps, let me know any other questions
