It is sad seeing those stored locos slowly deteriorating. And the 86s deserved a better send of than they got - 55 years in continuous mainline service is one heck of an achievement, can't believed they are now just dumped there unceremoniously. What a shame. A shame also is that horrid new livery on the class 90s. FL Powerhaul was a pretty ghastly livery that really did not suit any of the locomotives that carried it, sadly the new orange is little better. A pity because they are nice looking locos when painted correctly.

Do the class 86’s get used ?

Not at the moment, but who knows what their future is. The 90s have superseded them for refurbishment.

@@hoovermanuk430 They should move them into dry storage really. Letting them deteriorate outside like that is painful to see.

hope these cl86s are not scrapped.even the class 60 could be brought in to use again as a stand by loco or rescue loco

They are getting on a bit now, especially in comparison to the 60s but it would be sad to lose them from the network. The 90 is obviously a more modern restoration option for freight workings and it's what they're up against sadly.

@@hoovermanuk430 It seems ridiculous that these electric locos are left in sidings rusting away whilst 90% of the freight is hauled by diesels even where the wires stretch all the way. Yes they are old but not beyond doing some work.
@hoovermanuk4302 жыл бұрын
@@reggiesmith3866 Agreed, but there's now the added issue of the cost of electricity which means that electric locos are getting sidelined on some trains for a diesel...or two. Some locations are still bereft of overhead supply but I believe there's new technology on its way to help with this. We'll see. Thanks for commenting on the channel.

i heard rumours at one point if traffic went back up for freightliner the 86s where going to gain a full refurb to meet modern standard ?? but unfortunately rumours in the enthusiasts always end up wrong, is a shame DB have left so many locos to rot, especially those 60s
@hoovermanuk4302 жыл бұрын
Would think any serious increase in traffic would trigger all sorts of ideas with how to cope with it. Coal traffic disappearance killed the 60s sadly but x8 are now being refurbed at Loughborough. P98 Railway magazine.
