Crews recover vehicle that went off pier in Virginia Beach

WAVY was there Friday morning as crews recovered the vehicle that went off the 14th Street Pier in Virginia Beach. Police confirmed a body was found inside.

The current was very violent making it difficult to stay balanced. Along with the heavy oxygen tanks and equipment divers had to wear. You can clearly see how better the waters are now than they were all the other attempts.

IDK, I've heard of cars going in the Detroit river, that's 12mph current, over 1 million gal/minute. While canoeing with a DPD Harbor Master officer in the late 70's he told me they pull 200 bodies a year, found it hard to swallow but its something that quietly gets done -- unless they're kinda ripe, then they tie em up down wind and call the morgue.

I imagine because it's not a common thing needing to pull an automobile from the bottom of the ocean in the dead of winter. Not something with crews on standby...
