The manual for this bike calls for the play to be very little...1/16 to 1/4 inch max. That's actually a big spread for small numbers. I like it with just a little slack, just like what you have and off road it's not a problem at all. Mine came loose like yours from the factory and tightening it was absolutely necessary. I adjusted mine at the throttle.

Careful, always turn the handlebar from full left to full right and check if there is slack even when handlebar fully turned.

If you plan on doing any off-road or rougher riding make sure you still have a decent amount of slack in the throttle. If you dont you'll end up accidentally revving the bike when your trying to engine break while going over bumps or slipping. I did the same when i first started riding on my XL250 Degree and i nearly came off a few times, keep in mind that off-road or on on rougher terrain your going to be at lower speeds in low gears so a jerk of throttle at the wrong time is gonna really throw you off and in 1-2nd gear could easily break traction. Its up to you of course but id advise you put the slack back once you get more used to turning the throttle since you wont notice it once your more practiced.

Thanks for the tip! I will keep it in mind for when I do eventually hit the dirt.

@@themotonoobusa9710 Yes, when the bike is turned fully to the left, the throttle slack gets taken up. May want to make sure you're not too tight, when turned left.

@@yahweh1x543 It still has a little play. Thanks for the tip!

The adjuster is on the top throttle cable right in front of the throttle housing on the bars. That's where you're intended to adjust or eliminate the free play. Loosen the locknut and turn the long adjuster tube. While doing so it's a good idea to turn your bars lock to lock to ensure going to lock doesn't increase throttle. Maybe you tried that first and it didn't remove all the slack and you had to adjust the other end as well?
@themotonoobusa97103 жыл бұрын
I did see that adjustment on the throttle housing only after I had adjusted it on the throttle body. The dealer told me I could adjust it there (on the throttle body) but didn't say anything about the other adjustment. Thanks for the heads up!

Don’t you want some play? If it’s too tight, would turning your handlebars pull on the throttle a little??
@donreed11333 жыл бұрын
Good job. Looked to me like the dealer should have adjusted it for you! But you took care of it. I have never heard any rider say they like that much slack in a throttle. Happy riding!

Ya, it didn't make any sense to me that anyone would like it that way!? Thanks for the comment and Ride Safe!

Yeah, Mate. All dual cable throttles have that adjustment. On my Kawasaki it’s up near the grips though. I ordered the CRF 300 Rally a couple weeks ago, but it may not show up for several more weeks. Lookin’ forward to it.

When your bouncing around on the trail you want that slack in the throttle. Love the bike, it looks like mine when it was stock. :)
@ronald86732 жыл бұрын
Mine came with way too much slack also. Easy fix. Most of the bolts on the thing were way over torqued also.

The problem is the electronic fuel control cuts fuel to zero on any throttle reduction.

This guy is just misinformed: turn ignition off to on twice on engine off condition then take throttle from off to full condition three times and wait a few seconds before turning off ignition. This re-sets the throttle for less jerkiness.
@themotonoobusa9710 Жыл бұрын
I think if you watch the video this adjustment had nothing to do with "jerkiness" it was to take the slack out of the cable so I didn't have to turn the throttle so far just to get some action out of it. I use clutch control to solve the jerkiness.

I haven't experienced anything "shocking" but it isn't uncommon for single cylinder motorcycles to vibrate at certain rpm's.

Wasting your time The solution to the excess play and snatchy throttle reponse is the “Tamer Throttle” Works great in mine.
