I just bought a 2004 Honda CRF250X with less than 50 original miles on it...after a good carburetor cleaning, it still has the throttle-snap bog down issue. I bought a Boyesen Quick Shot 3, JD Jetting Kit, carb rebuild kit, and newly designed fuel accelerator diaphragm and spring...and will be installing these over the weekend. This video was a PHENOMENAL HELP in preparation for the teardown and rebuild. Thank you for spending the time and extra effort putting together such an outstanding video...

@TokyoOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Yes, 2-stroke carbs are quite a bit smaller making it much easier to get them out and work on. Also steel frame bikes have a lot more room around the carb. The CRF250X carb is shoe horned into the frame...
@chariflakchiri7 жыл бұрын
The frame is thick and narrow, making all the components densely packed, with zero room for access without taking the whole thing apart. I hope I won't ever need to pull the carb out again...

If you take the airbox side cover off the intake noise will sound louder possibly giving the impression of more power. However, on my 2017 250EXC I did mod the airbox and side cover a little to make it less restrictive. All I know is that it runs well with this and the other mods I've made.

@chariflakchiri4 жыл бұрын
The stock exhaust is very restrictive and isn't high flow compared to the aftermarket ones. If you don't plan on installing an aftermarket exhaust, the airbox mod might make the mixture too thin by letting in more air at high throttle opening, so the jetting needs to be adjusted to your combination of airbox mod + stock exhaust.

I did all these same mods to my crf450x as well as leak jet #50. If the bike has a "bog" this or an adjustable leak jet can cure this condition. Something I noticed was a lot of heat comes off that header so I fitted a e-line carbon fiber guard to act as a heat shield. Nice video
@TokyoOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the e-line carbon header guards are nice. I had one on the KTM 500EXC I used to have. Charif did fit a remote adjustable fuel screw when we made the mods, so he can easily tweak the setting.

Tokyo Offroad I noticed the R&D flex jet in your video. I use them on all my 4 strokes. They are great just keep them greased under the rubber tube or they will corrode. The adjustable leak jet I was referring to controls the amount of fuel that the accelerator pump gets. Merge racing used to make them and also Boyesen Racing. 👍🏽

do you suggest cutting the air box on any dirt bike? like a ( 4 stroke fuel injection with a square style air filter(non foam and no oil))
@TokyoOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Only if the airbox is over restrictive. If the bike runs fine and the airbox is able to flow enough air just leave it stock.
@UndisputedKingofSnails7 жыл бұрын
Every bike is going to be a bit different, but yes most bikes come stock really choked up, but cutting the box alone will not help much and can actually cause issues. if you open up the air intake, you must change the exhaust and jetting as well. Search online for a good idea of the suggested do's and don'ts of your specific bike.
@TokyoOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Yes, always adjust the jetting (or fueling for FI) if making significant changes to your intake and/or exhaust. If you don't you risk the bike running lean which will cause excessive heat and could result in the piston seizing.

@chariflakchiri7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. The pink wire mod raises the rev limiter by 500rpm, which is of no interest to me for now. It only makes sense along with an R camshaft in order to gain more HP up high, but you lose a good bit of low end torque. For the kind of riding I do, which is slow and technical, I don't plan on making any more CCC mods.
@MotoBuilds5 жыл бұрын
500 overrev is just one benefit of the pink wire. It also advances the spark timing a bit throughout the range and gives noticable power in the bottom end as well. You can always unplug it, slide into the empty slot, ride and then reinstall it to it's proper port if you change your mind.

Code Name Noob - Not true. Stock KTM EXC-F bikes are choked up with emission crap too and need uncorking if you want full power. JD and other sites have dyno charts and mod details. Eg. A stock 450EXC is about 39Hp and 51.5Hp after uncorking (SXF silencer, airbox reeds removed and fuel tuner). That’s a huge difference. A stock 350 with 36Hp goes to 43Hp after similar uncorking.
@codenamenoob49735 жыл бұрын
@@TokyoOffroad I'm just teasing of course, all this EU emissions crap really sucks. Luckily I'm not rich enough to afford the bikes that have to follow all these more recent laws, although I might put myself in some debt shorty to get myself a husky 701 SM but of course again heavily choked up stock until you fork out £800 plus to unlock the bikes full potential or most realistically the way they where intended to be by slapping on a power up kit (new airbox, silencer and some other bits) it's very frustrating that if you buy a new bike you have to pull it apart or blow more money on it just to uncork them, really feels like a scam
@TokyoOffroad5 жыл бұрын
Code Name Noob - It’s not the fault of the manufacturers. They are just following the regulations and policy laid out by the EU and US. If they don’t do that they can’t sell bikes. Indeed. The new CRF450L is a prime example. The Japan domestic model is strangled to 24Hp. Yes, that's not a typo, misunderstanding, or mistake. 24Hp. If you"re in the US you have it lucky and they produce about 40Hp stock...

Honda (and other manufacturers) design the bikes to pass the exhaust emissions and noise regulations of the the regions the bikes are sold to. Unfortunately the regulations are becoming tougher and tougher to pass, typically requiring the manufacturer to neuter the performance by restricting the air intake and ECU. So going forward I wouldn't hold my breadth expecting manufactures to deliver bikes which perform well stock, fresh out of the crate :-(

Did you just remove the "mesh" from airfilter cage or go with another brand cage? No concern about backfires and the possibility of catching your petroleum soaked airfilter on fire?
@chariflakchiri7 жыл бұрын
I went with an aftermarket mesh-less cage. The air filter catching fire from a backfire is possible, but extremely rare. I am using the NoToil Super-Flo kit, and the airfilter is said to have a flame retardant inner lining that will protect it from hot spark generated by the backfire. With all the mods, I noticed the bike backfires a lot less than stock, especially after I removed the smog pump. The air filter stock mesh screen seemed restrictive so I wanted to run the bike without it now that I opened up the airbox. Next time I'll inspect the inside of the airfilter for any indication of heat marks and may install the stock mesh screen back if I find any.
@jamesbramblett33467 жыл бұрын
I agree the backfire and fire would be extremely rare. You should be ok as long as you continue to use the no toil foam oil. I really like the belray foam filter oil so I have been very hesitant to remove my backfire screen. I have a 450 and really don't need any more power anyway.
