Thanks. You should try to ride in winter. It's not hard at all. Speed is greatly reduced, and that changes everything. The biggest problem is actually cold on your body. No skill is needed here. Just good clothes.

Yes , thank you. Keeping the weight forward really helps - most people forget about that. By removing the ABS and Emissions stuff, do you not get the abs light on/flashing and Engine check light on? Or did you put some black tape over the dashboard warning lights? 😎👍

@@McdoktorI also live in south Spain ten minutes from the TET trail. The best mods I did to my CRF300 was YSS suspension front and rear, Pirelli MT21 tires and pulled the fuse on the ABS. You live in a beautiful country it is my favorite place to visit in the summer.

Can you do a video on how you did the heated grips and seat? Like, where did you connect to, how do you use the multimeter to check the connections? There are not many CRF mechanics that explain how to do these things. I would have loved to see exactly how to remove the carbon canister, for example. Great premiere video btw.

Thank you, and yes, I know. There should be more details in the video. I will try to make one more just focused on mods and how I did them. The last 20 some years were just trying to be a fast and sufficient mechanic, so now I do things automatically quickly and completely forgetting to film them. Well, we all learn. I like the black frame on your 300. I have the red one with the silver frame. I don't like ABS either. I want to be able to lock up the wheels if I want to. I used to work as a motorcycle mechanic. Nice shop!

BTW: i´m on the wrenches since 1984 - but the Tip with the Zip on the Brake-Lever i never know. I immediately tried it on my motorcycle - it works perfectly - Big Thank`s for that 👍👍👍

I have the none ABS model I’ve done almost every modification both related to engine performance & chassis modifications the CRF300L is for sure an iconic machine not sure have many countries this model has reached I live in Laos the climate is somewhat the opposite to Oslo however regardless of where you live the little CRF300L can handle every environment…!!!

I would love you to explain the bolt replacement strategy in a little bit more detail. I would love to know the material type, grade and why it was chosen. I have friends that love to talk about Titanium, but I've actually had to deal with galling and that forever turned me off the material as "1st choice". Also, perhaps a mention of where one can buy such bolts in bulk at reasonable price. Make a good short video maybe ?

It's not LS, LS is not sold in Europe. But standard L is available here in red and grey trim options instead.

@MrLinutis Ye Oslo is fine, usually. It's much warmer inside the city. But I destroy a set of tires every winter. They get damage very fast even if they are high quality or good brand.

What are the laws in Oslo. I’m in the states and we have to have lights, horn and plates to ride on the road. I used to hate turn signals since my first bike in the 60’s didn’t have any, but I’ve grown to love them since I think they make me more visible. Still prefer kick start!

Hi. So, in Norway, to be road legal on a motorcycle, you must have light in front( high and low beam) tail and brake light, horn, and left mirror. There's no periodic control on motorcycles, but of course, bikes must be in good technical condition. It's rider responsibility to have good tires, brakes, lights,etc. However, if you pulled over by police or road administration (Statens vegvesen) and they have any suspicion of failure on your bike like noise limit, leeks, and other technical issues, they can order you to show the bike to control in one of the official faciliti for example in 2 weeks. If the failure is big and obvious, they can take your license plate off, and you will get it back when you fix all issues and show them the bike. Off course you must have a proper license, pay insurance, and road tax

how is it to ride with the spike tires on the asphalt that doesn't have any snow or ice? Because even in Norway in the winter the roads can be completely dry but after half hour you reach a blizzard :D And I've heard that spike tires are terrible in normal conditions. I've seen some dealership in Norway that they are selling the CRF300L with heated grips and spike tires as a "winter package" :D

Yes. It depends of what type of spike and what kind of winter tires. Road winter tires with small spikes are ok on dry asfalt more less. But offroad tires with long spikes are disaster. However they amazing in snow and grass. There's no one for all conditions. But if you not planing go offroad normal winter tires with small spikes will be good enough for winter with parts of dry asfalt. You can even get knee down on them. Winter packages ar to try to sell some motorcycles in winter. Coz as you can imagine winter is quite slow season for motorcycle business.

I'd love to ride during the winter here in Canada but there's an unbelievable amount of salt on the roads, to the point it often piles up in the road. I'd be worried it would rust or ruin the parts on the bike.

Hi. Yes. We have that to! Salt and some other chemicals preventing freezing. The only thing we can do is to wash our bikes after a ride so it doesn't accumulate. But sometimes there is no time or opportunity to do that. But to be honest, I kind of wait for something happening to my bikes just so I can go and fix it.

@8:51 he says he can stop the bike faster without the ABS system, so he removes it. Boy as an electrical engineer I couldn't resist this stupidity. I worked on aircraft anti-braking systems in the U.S. military in the 1980's. I know those systems very well. I don't think he understands what ABS does; what its purpose is. It is not on cars or bikes to allow you to stop faster. It is there to prevent the wheels from locking up in conditions such as rain. ABS systems on aircraft have been around way longer than they were ever on cars. The anti-skid systems on aircraft weren't put there to allow the pilot to stop faster, although in just the right circumstances you might be able to stop faster. ABS is there to prevent you from grabbing a handful of brake and locking up the wheels. It is there to allow you a controlled stop, not to allow you to stop faster. Maybe he knows that but removing the ABS for the reasons he stated "I can stop faster" doesn't make sense if he understand what ABS does. I turn mine off if I am on a dirt track racing or exploring national forests on single track trails. ABS won't help you very much in those situation anyways so I turn it off. But I don't turn it off when I'm on the road and I will NEVER turn it off when I am on the road and it's raining. I rode in 4.5 hours of rain through Wyoming 4 months ago. If a deer jumps out in front of you while riding in the rain you will panic and apply max braking. Without ABS you will lay your bike down and get hurt(most likely). With ABS you will be able to stop under control and possible steer away from the deer or you may hit it but at a much slower speed. Better to hit that deer at 30 mph under control than to hit the concrete out of control at 70mph. Better to have ABS on your bike and not need it than to need it and you don't have it. If you're only on dirt trails then deleting it makes more sense. Ironically, the road conditions that you were riding in at the end of your video are THE EXACT conditions that ABS was meant for. I 100% guarantee you that you can not stop your bike faster under maximum applied braking in those conditions without ABS and without hitting the ground. Of course it's your life do what you want, but don't make dumb decisions like this because you are ignorant. Call me, I'm an electrical engineer. I know shit and I can educate you.

You just dont understand how motorcycle, and especially dirtbike ABS works. You being an electrical engineer doesnt make you an expert on brakes. Go watch the fortnine video about it. With a long travel bike like this, the ABS causes extra problems as the suspe nsion moves a lot when the ABS is working. You dont need to be an amazing rider to outbrake the ABS on these bikes. You being an electrical engineer doesnt make you an expert on dirt bike brakes. Im not denying that ABS works when you are doing a panic stop - its just that he wasnt wrong about stopping faster without it.

I'm electrical engineer too and I can assure you that CRF300L front brake is so weak that it doesn't lock on gravel road unless you really intend to. Locking it on tarmac road is next to impossible. How I like ABS on heavy street bikes, having it on CRF300L is pointless. I've tested it with pulled fuse quite a bit. I will remove it from my 300L for weight reduction when warranty is expired.
