They also used those eggs for darning socks. You'd slide the darning egg into the sock, so that you could easily darn the toe section from the exterior, then just slip the egg out the top when finished.

My grandfather dug a well on his farm in 1951, but had to fill it in when the Board of Health told him he had to scrub the walls every so often. He filled it in with bottles and cans. Paper went in the fireplace, food scraps went to the animals, bottles and cans went in the well. He had indoor plumbing, no outhouses on the farm.
@CrickDiggersInc2 жыл бұрын
Yeah they quit using outhouses around 1930s for the most part

Great dig guys! I dug a similar piece to the one you thought might be a lightening rod piece and mine had a metal stand. I was told it was a match holder for a saloon. I wish I was right there with y'all! I'd be having so much fun. The egg is probably a darning egg. You put the egg in a sock with a hole in it and sew over the hole. How do you clean your bottles?

Question: when you dig in privy’s are you in effect digging through ancient excrement? shouldn’t you wear protective gear? I love your videos and as a child I found a treasure trove of bottles in a lake. I’m 71 years old.

@@tiffanyleatherman9807 -I always give those guys crap about the doll heads. I think they are creepy, and sometimes the live feed on auction days gets messed up….I always blame it on the doll heads. Several times this past month, I have been out digging late at night….and I smell cigarette smoke…I’m in the middle of nowhere….🤷♂️ strange things definitely occur…..😊
