Im really not a fan of tim paine going for that 1 handed catch in front of 1st slip... he dropped 2 in the indian series like that... even if he catches 3/4 like that... 1st slip should be able to get that 9/10 times...

It’s instinct, he has the gloves. Keepers are taught to go with their first instincts. Paine’s most likely the best keeper in the world, he had a rare mediocre test season with the gloves. Another factor is that keepers are closer than first slip, so there’s always a possibility when it’s low, that the ball could drop too low by the time it gets to first slip. But you’re not wrong, I’m just devils-advocating for keepers who go on first instinct and should have the confidence in themselves to do so

@@samb8744 I have no problem if he catches it almost everytime... but he dropped 2 easy 1st slip catches this summer... he was a huge reason we( australia) didnt win the 3rd test. multiple ddrops and missed stumpings...
