They each met him online and knew him only as 'Bruce.' He gained their trust, only to turn on them when they were at their most vulnerable. In this episode, two men reveal their near-death experiences at the hands of notorious serial killer Bruce McArthur.
The exclusive details of their 9-1-1 call that led to McArthur being questioned by police, but later released, and ultimately going on to kill two more people. The terrifying revelations about what McArthur was planning for them, discovered only after McArthur's arrest. And the detective who finally connected the dots.
Catherine McDonald reports on this story of grief and guilt - and a haunting question: could lives have been saved if McArthur was caught sooner?

The 911 operator sounded very rude in that dashcam video. She was just yelling at him. WTF. Her tone was just aggravated sounding like he was wasting her time.

For all the commenters freaking out about the 25 year sentence, he will be declared a dangerous offender and never released. 25 years is his first chance for parole. He will never get it. Ever.

At 67.... those were not his only killings. He had pretty much perfected his technique. He was just beginning to become lackadaisical, luckily that roommate came home early... as for "Isaac", he was lucky that Bruce was just in that lackadaisical age.... Thank goodness Isaac called the police.

Well the problem is that people from marginalized communities, LGBTQ plus people especially, are afraid to go to the police. Even in countries that have better laws. I'm not in Canada and if I were assaulted I could never go to the police because I would likely be mocked and assaulted by the police officers. I know a trans girl in my town who was severely beaten up and sexually assaulted by the police officers when she went to report a crime against her. And even in Canada coming out still means a lot of problems. Sure, you can't be legally fired for being LGBTQ plus but trust me there are plenty of ways to make life so unbearable at the workplace that you'd quit yourself. And the rejection and aggression from just people, including your family, is a very real thing. You wouldn't believe how many LGBTQ plus people are sexually and physically assaulted every year without being able to report it

Agree. But I was surprised to find that when such incidents really happen, many people do not think like that. Someone was just sharing in a facebook group yesterday that her friend got raped by a Tinder date. But her friend doesn't want to report it to the police. The group admin set the narrative that it's up to the victim on how to deal with it and everyone went along. As an ex victim myself who thought there was no other way but to report to police, I learned something new again.

while I agree that this person should not have the possibility of parole at all, he wasn't sentenced to 25 years. He is eligible for parole in 25 year, at which point there will be a parole hearing if he's still alive and then he will not be granted parole and remain in prison. The possibility of parole is not the same as being released for sure

The only reason Sean is alive is bc of that roommate. I wouldn't be surprised if there's far more 'missing' men from earlier yrs that these cops don't want to investigate again or try and connect to this killer simply bc it'd bring them more backlash.

What a sad, heartbreaking story. Eight innocent men whose lives were just stolen from them. I agree that in cases such as this, the victims are often marginalized by law enforcement if they're immigrants, gay people, racially selected people or people "who won't be missed." Every single life is precious; these victims were worthy people, even if they were " different" from us in some way. Sean and Isaac were so courageous to come forward with their stories. They very nearly were two more victims, which would have brought the total to at least 10. God bless them, the victims, and the victims' families and loved ones. Thank God the murderer was caught before he could kill anyone else. The man who was in the monster's apartment when the police knocked on the door was probably very close to becoming the final victim. God bless you all and keep you safe. 🙏🙏

I cannot forget what happened, even we had big luck because of my lies, that my father is a karate master and that he will find me! Never thought that trick would help in anyway, but it really helped us then to survive!! Finally he let us go..Austrian Police didn't do anything against him, even I reported that to them together with my grandma, I also gave them the number of the car, because I wrote it down when we got out of his damn car! I am so disappointed!! Police in USA is different luckily !!

This story hit home to me so much because 18 months ago I was raped in Toronto and survived. It was 2 days before my daughter's wedding. He was arrested from CCTV and has been on house arrest since. The courts have slowed down because of Covid. But his pretrial is coming up. The reason I related to this was because he tried to smother and strangle me. It was in a park and it had been raining earlier that day. I was in a bunch of trees and foliage. I think the only reason I survived was because he heard some people close by. He kept trying to shut me up but I was able to convince him to lead me back to my air BNB. I feel like he is a serial killer in the making because of everything that happened. I was at a bar 2 doors from my Air BNB and he convinced me to walk to this park to smoke a joint. He was 31 I was 49. My daughter getting married was 29. I pictured him like one of her friends. Laughing and joking and reminiscing about family and weddings! He seemed like the most congenial person, then in a flash he changed!!!!! He Jerked me down a muddy path and raped me and smothered me and strangled me! I felt so badly for the men in this story, because I know how it is to have trust in someone and then be in complete fear of your life!!! I did not even want to have sex with this young boy! I was totally looking at it as a fun night out with a new friend. I was going to get to explore Toronto a bit more and smoke a joint and go home!! NOT THE CASE. I think he is probably a serial rapist and I think he might have killed me if he could and he might kill others! I am coming back from Texas for the trial and I hope to put that bastard away so he can't hurt or kill anyone!

These stories are so unfortunate and my heart is with each and every victim..but listening to their stories helps make the public aware, and gives good advice on how to prevent these things from happening again. I used to watch Investigation ID, Forensic Files, Homicide Hunter, all those shows, but it got to where I was watching the same cases just reported or portrayed differently. This channel is showing me new cases I have never heard of and that is what I've been looking for!! I truly thank each victim for being strong enough to share their stories with us. Just found this channel. Very sad case indeed I'd never heard of this. The advice Sean gave at the end is so important for everyone using online dating app etc. Wish him and Isaac all the best moving forward. My heart goes out to the victim's families. 🌹

Such a sad story, I hope these two survivors can access victims of crime compensation, they deserve a happier future and the trauma is obviously still very real. Such a sad story. RIP , you deserved better. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

A police officer saying "That's Not My Job" Speaks volumes for the entire force! Ahhh Yes, Yes it IS YOUR JOB! That's what tax payers pay you for, To Do Your Job, For Us!

Doesn't matter who they are or what position they hold, Accountability amongst our PM, Police forces, RCMP is seriously lacking in ANY capacity. This should be of grave concern for every single Canadian. I lost 3 friend's in Portipique, NS who I grew up and went to school with. Unreal how any of these people are in charge IMHO.
