Brett Ryan’s guilty plea, given a decision by the Canadian Supreme Court in 2022 to uphold a challenge to a Criminal Code section that had allowed judges to impose, on those defendants who, at the time of a given murder, had been 18 years of age older, consecutive parole ineligibility periods. Yet as a multiple murderer with a record, before that murder, for bank robberies, who knows if he will ever be granted escorted temporary absences, never mind day or full parole?

@@curtissmith5469 I had, as of 10.30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on 6 July 2024, watched the first 6:15 of the video in question. I had watched other video docs about Brett Ryan and had never found out whether he had lost a tech job for which he had applied because he hadn’t been honest with that company about his criminal record. If the company that had fired him did so, because that criminal record has been relevant to the job and question, he might not have had recourse, but if that company fired him because the criminal record had been irrelevant, he likely would’ve had every right to take his case to the Ontario Human Rights Commission if the job had been regulated under that province’s Employment Standards Act. I’m not sure what rights he would’ve had, under the Canada Labour Code, for recourse against a criminal background check. That’s even with few occupations employment contracts for which are regulated federally rather than provincially or territorially.

I am firstly shocked and appalled at his actions, how anyone could kill anyone, let alone their own family members is something I will never ever understand, secondly it saddens and sickens me as a person who has suffered with mental health problems all my life when murderers use their condition as a way of explaining their actions after committing the most heinous crime of all, people who truly suffer with mental health disorders are extremely unlikely to commit any act that is as terrifying as this, from my own experience I can say that I have never had any thoughts about harming anybody, we all know from the time we are children that killing is the ultimate sin, I do not know how anybody could live with knowing they have taken the life of another person, perhaps I sound naive but there is never any reason to hurt someone in any way, let alone take their life

I don't think it supposed to be polished or scripted; these are authentic interviews with the detectives and witnesses who are obviously filled with emotion when reliving this tragic day while also trying to be respectful to the victims and survivor and careful with the amount of detail divulged to the media and us lookey-lous (sp?). The main detective (w/glasses) does a commendable job at narrating the horrific event, giving insight into the motive of the killer, and, more importantly, gives a voice to the victims and survivor with tact and respect not sensationalizing the murders.
