@ 30:58 - she said it perfectly. I don’t harbour any resentment or hard hatred for mentally ill people, I believe they deserve compassion and help for their issues, however that does NOT excuse them from murder, nor does it make them any safer for the public. The end result is the same - an innocent person is dead - even if the action was done out of illness instead of malice. RIP to Rosemarie who lost her beautiful life too soon. I hope that Rohninie gets help, but I also hope she never walks in public again.

Amen! I live with a mental illness (bipolar disorder) and I completely agree. We are not murderers or criminals but a few of us choose to commit evil acts and that’s on us. I’ve studied a lot about mental illnesses and none of them mention anything about harming others as part of our illnesses. Plus many criminals often fake a mental illness to avoid a long jail sentence. As far as I am concerned, if you are capable of going to a dollar store and buying a knife to stab someone, then you are capable of making competent decisions. A person may need to be given psychological help during a regular sentence in a prison but not 5 years in a hospital. And finally, our mental health system needs to be taken more seriously. Not simply because of cases like this but those of us who have experienced mental illness and need help.
@appletree99743 күн бұрын
It’s important to support and to recognize abnormal behaviour in ill people before something terrible happens. Therefore society is responsible too when people ignore the sick people and do not bother in helping those who are suffering. The hospital and the legal system did the very right decision to let her free so that she could integrate in society as long as she takes her medication and follows her care plan.

you wrote this three weeks ago a Ukrainian soldier had his head blown off clean off and where is the justice for their loved ones…for that matter just Ukraine and Russia alone over 300,000 mangled corpses and where is the justice… Sure I know that has nothing to do with this case but if the woman that committed the murder was genuine than justice has been served … She's going to be suffering with this the rest of her life so much so you and I can never understand how painful it will be for her… And if she's genuine putting her present serves no purpose at all as a matter of fact the money to keep her in prison comes out of our pockets and it cost a lot of money to keep an inmate or patient it cost a fortune so it's a negative … I think your statement was wrong saying zero justice… For her punishment could be greater than any prison sentence of any kind. So many people in the comments have no understanding of what a severe mental illness does to a person. Not taking their medication is part of the illness, not a deliberate act. Sometimes the meds are not even the right ones. Even if a person gets the help they need it can take years to get the treatment right. My brother had a psychotic episode when he was staying with me. It was terrifying, even though he had no weapons on him. Once his meds were adjusted and he was back to himself, he had no memory of what had happened. He wasn’t in control and wasn’t capable of being rational. If he had acted physically violently and hurt someone he wouldn’t have been responsible, just as Rohinee wasn’t responsible. There was no faking here to get away with the homicide. In fact she has a life sentence due to her illness. Even if she was responsible and sentenced as a murderer, she’d get out and walk the streets someday. So the end result, that seems to piss so many people off, would be the same.

She herself says that her illness was not apparent to herself or others until she murdered Rosemarie. I am trying to figure out how it wasn't apparent that she was ill earlier in her life. Schizophrenia is very easily noticed. I couldn't believe when her lawyer called her 'disorganized', so disorganized that she bought a knife a dollarama. I found this so strange. Being disorganized while you are planning to stab someone, has nothing to do with anything. And is not an indication of Schizophrenia.

Did I miss something or did anyone else find it curious that no mention was made of her husband? I thought I’d heard that she was a newlywed, married only 4 months before the crime took place. Strange. So sad for the family.🙏

If an individual is found NCR, and are put into a mental hospital and that individual happens to pass all these steps, why are they not then prosecuted for the previous actions and sent to jail to serve the term they would have been given if they were not found NCR. That only makes sense. But also if this individual knew and was aware of her actions nonetheless being "caused" by her mental health, does that not prove 100% she knew what she was doing in some fashion.

it’s so much more complex than just judging someone for the violent attack, the new standard for NCR requires that if someone has been deemed so mentally unwell to the point that at the time of the attack they were not able to mentally function ‘normally’ in a way for them to know what they are doing is wrong/weird/crazy like everyone else does. also you have to think about different cultures where their beliefs/ knowledge surrounding mental illness is so lacking to the point of ignorance and even refusal to accept that it even exists, leading to vulnerable people being ostracised and ignored by their very own and only support system (families and friends) so many factors contribute to the final finding of NCR. Meaning, while someone is unable to differentiate between reality and fantasy it would not necessarily benefit anyone especially the sufferer to punish them for a crime they possibly don’t even know they committed and more than likely are horrified by their actions because when they are well they have the same ability as ‘sane’ people to know right from wrong and know when something is reality and not delusions. don’t get me wrong i feel so much compassion and empathy for atrocious senseless crimes being committed and the families left behind whilst also being very aware of how complex the human mind is (even ‘experts’ have to admit failure sometimes when trying to work the brain out) and how unwell a person can become. growing up with a father suffering schizophrenia, not understanding the illness and blaming him for his bad choices, had a massive impact on my childhood until i grew older and learnt more about people not being their true selves and a mental illness is just as debilitating/devastating as a terminal illness and it has to be treated

I think there's a fine line between mental illness and depression...both cases, mental illness dosnt make one prone to kill someone..its just illogical ..bottom line a mental illness plea is BS in my view.

Why did she attack Rosemarie at a location inside the store where there was no camera surveillance? And how did a woman suffering from schizophrenia manage to get multiple college degrees without anyone noticing that something was wrong with her?

Would the killer have gotten the same positive treatment - and release - if she was unattractive? Or can anyone see the same happen to a man who kills?

If this woman had known about her illness and was not taking her medication, that would be a whole different kettle of fish. She still had much to contribute while medicated and supervised.
