Crime Beat: The Death of Christine Demeter - By Persons Unknown Pt. 1 | S5 E20

On a warm summer night in 1973, building developer Peter Demeter pulls a Mercedes full of tourists into his driveway after a shopping trip. As the garage door opens, headlights illuminate a horrific scene, the bludgeoned body of his wife and model, 33-year-old Christine Demeter.
Though Peter has an airtight alibi, investigators launch an epic investigation, and discover a story and cast of characters that is stranger than fiction. Model mistresses, million-dollar insurance policies, and a Hungarian hitman are revealed.

Remember this case well. Allegedly after Christine's head was smashed up to pieces in their garage, Peter Demeter quipped: "I didn't know she had so much brain." Also it was nice to see Barbara Amiel at that time. Thank you CRIME BEAT TV for sharing.

Mississauga did not exist then. It was the Cooksville department. Dundas Cresent was in Erindale. The destruction of some of the best farmland in Canada began when Ms. McCallum did behind the scenes deals with developers to destroy one of Canadas breadbaskets and turn it into a paved road, highway and high rise disaster which deprives the future, forever, from some of the best fruit in the world. Rather than lauded as a great Mayor, she should have been incarcerated for insider trading and financial crimes.

I worked as a temp for someone hired by Peter Demeter, & this was quite a while after he's been imprisoned. I saw one of Demeter's letters that had arrived recently. I don't know if there was a problem getting hold of stationery in the prison, but the handwriting, first of all, was tiny & cramped. After the page was fully written up, Demeter had then written in all 4 of the margins, writing all around in a circle until they were all filled up too. Reeeeeally strange.

Peter was charged with conspiring to have his lawyers daughter killed lol ,, and I was in the holding cells at high court 367 university ave in Toronto and I asked him how his wife was and he got upset lol

He was there appealing his sentence on the conspiracy charges . He lost his appeal that day . I was there on a bail appeal and I also lost that day too lol

In 1974 i went to the house to take a picture of it for a history project in school of all historic sites in Mississauga. Their house was the house of the very first Doctor in Erindale. I was so scared. I took the picture jumped in the car & told my dad to put the pedal down.

This case made headlines worldwide. Peter is still in prison, at 91, for attempting to kill other people he hated. He is still considered to this day, one of the most dangerous criminals in Canada.. I've been looking for a documentary about Peter Demeter for decades.
