29 years old, Lisa Mitchell had a lot on her plate. Lisa and her common-law husband, Allan Shyback, had two children. In the fall of 2012, she juggled two jobs to try to make ends meet and provide for her family. Then one day she disappeared leaving her common-law husband and two children behind. On this episode of Crime Beat, crime reporter Nancy Hixt shares the shocking twist this case took.
Crime Beat is a true crime series that takes viewers deep into some of Canada’s most infamous criminal cases. Based on the highly successful podcast hosted by Nancy Hixt, Crime Beat showcases the best investigative crime reporting from the Global News reporters who covered the stories in real time. Using extensive archives and intimate family interviews, each week Crime Beat reveals new details that go beyond the news headlines: giving a voice to victims and their families, unraveling how each case was solved, and exploring lasting impacts on the community and justice system.

I've watched a ton of docs like this from other countries. I don't mean to insult anyone, but those countries do *not value the victim's life* as much as they do the perps. They commit these crimes, and get released after a disgustingly short time, (for good behavior, they admit guilt, show remorse, and tell officers where to find the victim's body). Some countries actually give the released *murderer, rapist, or child molester* a new identity!. To protect him/her! They get out early, and are still young enough to start fresh and to start a new family. It's infuriating.

How do you have the patience? I love true crime stories, docuseries and the like... but this is sooooooooooo ssslloooooooowwwwww .... I feel like I'd need some heavy sedatives or tranquilizers to take my thought process down slow enough to enjoy it. Maybe they aren't all as slow as this one...?... It may just be a culture difference, but this pace feels painfully subdued. It is almost anxiety inducing... but I enjoy the stories so I'm trying to deal with it... and clearly failing.

so sorry for the loss I am kind of not surprised in any way that it was the guy she was living with who actually killed her. No offense but I have worked with many chefs being a dishwasher and yes they work long hours and do get tired but still no reason for her to be killed. 7 years or 10 not enough he needs to be sentenced to death not sure what Canada has for their laws but it seems as slap on the wrist. good part is those kids are able to be raised the correct way with the grandma. I doubt she tried to stab him either more likely he just strangled her

I'm sure she was exhausted, working two jobs, doing everything at home, paying all or the majority of the bills, and being the primary caregiver of their children... but she did it, and probably never cried about how tired she was...
