Not even some sort of billing system, where the assassins have to pay the cleaners directly out of the pay from the assassination mission, would stop the trolls from flinging bits of what used to be a drug kingpin across the soft furnishing, laughing in glee as they imagine the frustrated looks on the cleaner's face as they have to duck around the guards who're there to monitor the crime scene to find the murder weapon that was strategically thrown into a corner in just such a way it clips through the wall and lands outside the level border, rendering it impossible to complete the mission. And yeah, having to clean up a kill (or at least having the *option* to retrieve bullet casings and clean up blood like you erase camera footage and hide bodies) would be a fun addition to make getting SA more complex.
@vactrox2 ай бұрын
@@Kenionatus I mean you could probably have the cleaner doing more active social roles that the killer can't do. That one guy about to wander in and blow your cover early? Have the cleaner step in and tell the guy to go away. Heck even what you say could have an impact so you could have dialogue choices. Used the excuse that you're fumigating for pests? Well good job, the person has changed their mind about going in and are now going to speak to the manager because you're in a restaurant during working hours... Everything is worse now. Setting up the right signs to redirect people, pushing a big bin for the assassin to hide in, and making sure that ONLY the people who need to die get into the right traps is a lot of busy work before killing. Plus the assassin doesn't have to be left out. Taking down people who would ask questions about the new guy, hacking security so he's allowed access, messing with the schedules so the cleaner is "supposed" to be there. There is a ton of fun to be had and ways this can all backfire.
@greenredblue2 ай бұрын
The coop idea might be decent, especially if the players were working against each other somehow, but this idea probably won't work in single player. The Hitman games are methodical, yes, but every mission and goal involves increasing pace and tension. Even the intermediate failure states are just increases to pace and tension. The "puzzle" aspect of each mission is how to arrange elements so that when it hits the fan the outcome is good, but your interest is maintained through the methodical bits because you _know_ it will hit the fan. Cleaner games are different. They're generally built to be meditative, without threat, pacing, or tension.

I think a better version of the story for this game: The janitor has an old buddy (idk maybe they both served in the army or something) that's developed a drug problem and accidentally killed one of his dealers. But now the dealer's crime syndicate his threatening to kill his friend if he doesn't clean up crime scenes for them. As you play the game, the janitor can pocket certain key pieces of evidence for each murder, and hides them with a lawyer he knows. The game ends with the janitor going to the mob boss and telling him he has enough evidence to skin his entire operation hidden somewhere safe and he'll have it all sent to the authorities if anything happens to him or his friend. Maybe have a moral choice about whether to release the evidence and take the risk the mob will kill him or keep it as insurance to protect himself and his friend.

During the final mission he says he is going to lay low and he tells Kowalski to do the same. So Kowalski can indeed ignore the underworld contacts under that pretense. You have a stage set where the kill has to take place, and you have scripted behaviors for the killing and cleanup, and you have a visual WTF meter for the crowd and sight lines where if they see too much, they go WTF! and you lose the stage. Make it progressively harder with more things to keep track of, like the cones, the cleanup fluid, the sound level of the gun, get upgrades to make your run easier but it’s roguelike so you’re never quite sure the situation you’ll need. The power ups you find are the ones you keep if you get through the stage, but you lose them if you get found out, and whenever you finish a stage there’s either a screen of you throwing a suspiciously large bag into the back of a panel van or you being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon.

Is it a Walter White case of desperation turned genuine dark calling to crime? Is it fighting to get out only to dig deeper? Does the protagonist keep pieces of evidence because they can't accept all this harm to the region? Do they take evidence as self serving insurance? Do they delude themselves that this is about helping their daughter and giving her a good life while turning a blind eye to personal benefits from this? Does it end with someone else cleaning you up?

I would absolutely love a viscera cleanup detail sequel where you play as both the murderer and the cleaner. I can imagine some interesting level design where you have to infiltrate as a janitor and have a set amount of time to clean the kill before someone comes looking for the VIP you killed

the assasination + cleanup game idea brings to mind that one scene in american psycho where his room is well prepared so it doesn't get any stains when he axe murders a dude while listening to it's hip to be square

“most varied and sophisticated cleaning gameplay we’ve seen in the genre” is such a hilarious line but also I’m glad for it because I am too a post-dad game enthusiast

Hold up, at 4:00 that technally isnt true, in the level where you are cleaning up your friend you notice that his (now dead)"friends" wife and him and planning for a clean life and there a moment where you find a positive pregnancy test. For once in the game the protagonist is quiest and noticeably upset.

About the games where you both create and clean the mess, there is one secret level in Ultrakill, which takes a job at Powerwash Simulator by not letting you exit the level until you clear every single arena from the blood you've spilled.

I dunno about doing both the killing and the cleaning, but being specifically like John Wick's cleaners and going "aw man this shit's crazy, this guy's so good" for the guy you're cleaning up after is all the story I want in a crime cleaner game.

No no your idea is excellent. Guys can play the first part with the assassinations, and their wife can play the second part with the cleaning and decorating/arranging furnitures.

As my go-to cleaning game connoisseur, I have to call this out to Yahtz: I know what it looks like, but I have sincerely been completely loving the demo of Goblin Cleanup from Crisalu Games. Shockingly packed for a demo, too.

Honestly, the Hitman/cleanup hybrid game sounded like something I would enjoy more than Hitman, personally. If the objective is covering up what you did instead of avoiding collateral damage, then you could focus the gameplay on, for example, working around a time limit to kill your target and clean up all the evidence. You might be allowed to kill as many people as you want so long as you clean up all the evidence before you leave. Only getting a penalty or mission failure for failing to clean up the evidence that you murdered an unrelated passerby rather than getting a penalty or mission failure for killing them in the first place might sound like it would make a game easier, but that's only if you're not on a time limit.

The Werecleaner is the closest cleaning + murdering game I can think of, though I think you're suppose to avoid the murdering.

While the direct connection of Cleaning and Assassination game enthusiasts might be slim, they idea could make an interesting multiplayer game. One player is the assassin, the second player is the cleaner who has to clean up their mess after the fact. The better player 1 does, the less work the second player has to do.

Honestly, you bring up Agent 47, I could totally see a series of assassination contracts where you have to do it "Spotlessly" and 47's skillset of "Doing Literally Everything" comes in as you have to clean up what you can, and avoiding causing messes you CAN'T clean up quickly

What about a 2-player co-op with one person doing the assassination and the other following behind with clean up? Maybe some timed levels where the assassination and clean up of the evidence all has to happen in one go. Could also setup the place before the target arrives, like lay down plastic sheet, or pack away items that would otherwise get covered beforehand, etc. That way, there may not be a single audience that is for both modes of play, but you allow for both audiences to team-up.

The hitman/cleaner thing sounds like an indie game Yahtzee would make, like the cleaning would be a little no more hero’s minigame for each mess, and the killing would be a point and click style puzzle game with multiple options

See, I think the "Whole Package Cleaner" concept would have a fascinating synergy bonus in the area of "using killing tools for creative cleaning" versus "using cleaning tools for creative killing". And part of the idea could be less that you have to leave the situation pristine, but to nix the vectors that would give away the ploy. So SOMETIMES activating the fire suppression system might be a great way to muddy evidence. Other times it might be a great way to snuff out a PERSON. But it has to depend on what the angle of the mission is. If the "story" is "this guy skipped town in a hurry", leaving the stove on to cause a fire requiring sprinklers to destroy critical footprints makes sense. Other times, it might not. Which means you might have to off the guy and then run to the kitchen and turn off the stove. And build from there. The goal isn't to leave the place sparkling clean, but just to leave the place with only the details you intend to leave it with.

Combining a game like sniper and a cleaning game actually sounds like a great idea. An organic way to have both play styles mesh as you figure out the most optimal and more difficult way to kill someone in order to have an easier clean up. Much better than Indie number 43 doing the dungeon crawler/ manage shop gameplay troupe
