I was criticized by many when I chose to sit down my daughter at about age 11 and watched Amanda’s story. People thought I was showing her inappropriate content and teaching her to fear the world. My daughter is now 21 and has used the lessons learned all these years. I don’t regret it one bit and we definitely should be afraid of these situations when it comes to our children. My heart truly breaks for what she went through and I wish that it never happened but Amanda has saved many lives even though she’s no longer on earth. Sending nothing but love and strength to her loved ones, and I think I speak for many when I say her light will never dim and her story never forgotten.

you did good. kids enter puberty much earlier than when we were young. my son (now 34) had sex and felt all grown up when he was 12. I think he would have survived a docu like Amanda's story. For some kids, 11 may be too early, for others, it may be high time.

A parent took his kid to a drug centre to show him what happens to folks who even start off on SOFT drugs. They get hooked on the hard stuff, this was to warn him, when he saw someone on a life support machine. Another woman took her kid to see someone who had been wounded by a gun, to show him the damage they do, and it is not a toy. It is good to teach kids these things early.

@SirJaymesDAudelée Жыл бұрын
21:37 I think the saddest part of this whole thing is the fact that it’s very likely that all the people who slandered her on social media, likely also attended her candle light vigil. And of ALL those who attended her candle light vigil, none likely spoke up against her bullying who knew of it. Bully’s do t work unless we give them power. Amanda’s entire peer group gave power to her bullying. And that is far sadder than the existence of one deplorable pedophile. Who has the balls to go against the flow of mass cyber bullying? Apparently no one.

I can't imagine the suffering this poor girl endured. Life is hard enough at that age without having a single mistake follow you like a dark shadow. It must have felt like a hopeless situation to a young woman who had her whole life ahead of her. And the predator that tormented her got 11 years in prison in the Netherlands; Amanda's case got him an additional 13 years. Europe is famous for handing-down light sentences. Without the additional years imposed by the Canadian courts, he'd have been a free man and would doubtless have gone on to commit even more more serious crimes.

Maybe Amanda's mom could've done more. Or maybe she was doing the best she could at that time. The fact of the matter is a little girl is gone because a predator online and her own peers tormented her to death. It's easy to judge parents for their choices when we have the benefit of time and perspective, and an understanding of something that was new to them (social media) at the time. No parent is perfect, and I'm sure if she knew what we all know now, she would have made different choices and that still might not have saved Amanda. I'm sure her mother lives with that guilt every day of her life, and forever will even though it's not her fault. Believe me, nobody judges a parent harder than themselves. Have some compassion.
