Even if she did have a knife, she was justified in having one. She knew she had a stalker, and she was woken up in the middle of the night by a strange man, anyone would grab a weapon in that situation. The cop should have clearly told her he was there to make sure she was safe.
@northerngirl49242 жыл бұрын
After a night of drinking, and being very hard to rouse, maybe Chantel, being intoxicated and confused thought it was her stalker at the door and wanted to protect herself. If someone is coming at you with a knife and they are drunk I would call that life threatening. She could have been tasered, or sprayed with mace instead of shot. I don’t understand the use of lethal force, unless it is considered an acceptable response in a life threatening situation. Also it may have started as a wellness check, but it turned into something much more serious if there was a knife involved. I’m so sorry for the women of Chantels family, they are really in pain and suffering, it’s heartbreaking.

Tragic horrible crime. These cops didn’t have to kill her. A knife and three cops. How about mace ?? Four bullets is horrible. Poor young girl had a horrible life and a horrible ending for her young lady if she had shots in the back that means she was leaving and no threat to him. I want a independent council in Canada to investigate these cases not cops for cops. Poor little girl that lost their mother

Her poor daughter who has no mother to guide her or to be in her life. I feel so SORRY for these indigenous women my HEART goes out to them like c'mon they have suffered so much and yet there will NEVER be JUSTICE for these women. What BEAUTIFUL FAMILY may God BLESS you and give you strength to keep going. Gracie is so BEAUTIFUL just like her mom. RIP Chantel.

Welcome to the life of first Nations people. We're not even safe from the people who are supposed to keep people safe. Most of us feel safer not even calling the police and just dealing with whatever you're going through hoping that will make it through alive on our own. We need to start protecting each other because no one else is going to do that for us

I agree with other commentators; this is horrible and the truth needs to come out. Aside from all the other approaches that could have been taken to avoid the loss of life, let's remember that this young mother was awoken from a deep, deep sleep, after a night of partying. I doubt she could have been moving so quickly as to frighten an armed officer so severely that he had no choice but to shoot, and shoot again. I wish this family the answers they so hope for, along with peace and healing.

I came onto KZbin looking for just this episode as it could well have happened again in my backyard just yesterday. What was a health and wellness check turned into an officer being stabed in Whistle Bend District Whitehorse Yukon and a 17hr heavily armed standoff. I think every conceivable emergency service provider came into play, some even brought in from Northern British Columbia. Maybe some lessons have been learned, but maybe not too as an officer was stabed after all, by what neighbors only at this point describe as a first nation male. The officer was treated and released BUT very importantly didn't "choose" to retaliate with deadly force rather thought fast on his/her feet and apparently didn't attend alone too and that in it's self is wise as you just don't know what type of crisis the individual may or may not be in, or what your sudden unexpected presence may trigger as they could well be survivors of abuse and feel threatned while half asleep, not soaber etc ... etc ... Then too there's also only too often poorly understood mental health issues a social worker and/or paramedics are not equipped to handle on their own - it must be a larger team effort, combining these various talents when attending such calls in the hope that situations like these can be avoided. It takes a community of educated professionals to do the job right, no lone officer with a lethal weapon at hand.

There needs to be an independent investigation. I'd love to see the FBI have a closer look. I feel like the police had something to do with the stalking going on. How do they show up and murder a young mother in her home? And speaking a different language than locals use regularly is highly suspicious. The cops who discharged on her need to be in prison. And held to a higher standard than civilians, because they should know better. Someone called a wellness check on me a few years ago. And the circumstances surrounding that time were very difficult to say in the least. I moved 2500miles away from that disaster waiting to happen..

you don't shoot someone in the chest when you're trying to disarm them, so whether she did have a knife, he shot to kill, and he shot to kill her because she was indigenous. I'm Canadian, I live in Canada. my best pals are indigenous, I was told my grandfather was indigenous but I don't know. I helped my college do the first Red Dress Champaign here in my city. I'm an ally, a fighter for my friends. I didn't know her, but I will use my mouth like I did. she did not need to die, he took her FROM HER FAMILY, FROM HER DAUGHTER. Canada, do better.

If you have to wake up a soundly sleeping individual , leave , morning is hours away ! So , I suggest , murder , you can always run if a person has a knife and you have a gun in your hand , run , again , murder , no doubt , no need to shoot 4 times ! This deadly force was not acceptable !
@kaatwina9 күн бұрын
