I think one of the reasons Walt goes along with this so quickly is that, even though it's a lie, it's still a way of showing off how smart he is - *he* came up with a clever card-counting system and that's why they're so rich. I think Walt's reaction would have been very different if Skyler had made up a story in which she was the one who found a way to make millions.

Not everything is about “Walt’s ego”, as if he’s some cartoonish supervillain who self-sabotages while getting off hearing themselves monologuing about their own genius. Walt was *drunk* when his ego wouldn’t let Gale take the credit for being Heisenberg. He likely would have gone along with whatever Skyler’s lie was as long as it didn’t make him look repulsive and humiliating, even if it didn’t make him look like a genius either.

Walt, despite his genius, was very irrational and short sighted. I still like him the most. He was relatable for me. Don't attack me, not calling myself a genius or a drug lord.
