This was the first episode that i watched that really stuck in my head for years afterwards. The details i remembered from the murder in the car park for years is both weird and remarkable. Watching it today i remember it as clearly as when i was young. If only i could remember where all my money goes every month. Now that would be useful

I know exactly what you mean - the first episode that I watched as a child was a 1994 episode and I remembered (weirdly just as you feel ) vividly some minging blue high heels that the killer left behind ! I never saw it again until last year !

It looked to me as if the taxi the wages robbers hailed was not a taxi that just happened to be passing. It was probably arranged for another member of the gang to wait there. If not it would not of been a very good getaway plan, dumping the car and hoping that there was going to be a taxi nearby.

Given it was such an amateurish operation in which they only secured a pittance I can only imagine they’d have come a cropper shortly after anyway and did a stretch at HMP. That said hopefully they did get a long custodial for this horrific and needless murder.

In 1974 I went to school with an African lad called Pencil . That was it no surname just Pencil ! The look on the temp teacher's face when she called the register was priceless. Confidently call all the English name , then right at the end ( he has only just arrived at the school so his name was last ) was very tentative. Followed by " Yes Miss , I'm here " ! 45 years ago and I still remember it .

Be dangerous for a thief if the Macaw was located. They can pick up phrases rather quickly, and could give them away if they there's a particularly distinctive one that they use. I know a girl whose parrot now says 'shut it ya wee d***' thanks to her boyfriend's outbursts to the bird.

The armed robbery in Liverpool is a good illustration of how bad a lot of Britain's inner cities had become in the 80s. You can see how desolate it looks. The main problem back then was mass unemployment. It sent a lot of families into terrible poverty and that in turn fuelled crime. Liverpool was especially badly hit and there were major riots in the city in the early 80s. The famous TV series "Boys from the Black Stuff" is set in Liverpool during that era and captures the desperation very well.
