couple of notes, as someone with schizophrenia: 1) you can actually sometimes hear the voices while having headphones on. in fact, its how I determine if theyre real or not. if I put my headphones on and can still clearly hear the voices, it means they're not real 2) marijuana can actually trigger psychotic episodes in psychotic people, which is why I stay away from it. its another reason I don't believe his insanity defence. if he really did hear voices, weed wouldn't make them go away, it could actually worsen them. 3) its extremely telling he says the voice is inside his head. of course, some psychotic people hear internal voices, but considering cruz is going off a stereotypical psychosis, he wouldn't have said the voices were inside, he would have probably said theyre external. if he genuinely had a voice, its more than likely he would hear it externally.

As someone with hallucinations I completely agree, still waiting on my official diagnosis but I agree with your comment 1000% having experienced hallucinations (and drugs making them worst) this myself.
@angiestalesfromwales15903 жыл бұрын
@@little_bunni_hunni yeah I unfortunately meddled with psychedelics myself as well as uppers which unfortunately made my symptoms worse for a very long time. don't ask me why, I just decided it was a good idea back then! in hindsight, I look at myself and im like "dude, what were you doing messing with LSD?". lots of people have the notion that weed is always a chill out drug, but forget that weed is a psychotropic and has hallucinogenic properties. in non psychotic people, this is barely noticeable if smoked in moderation, but in psychotic people, it makes things worse. even non psychotics say prolonged use induced paranoia and mild delusions. I don't believe cruz when he says it made the demon go away, because if he was THAT mentally ill I can almost guarantee you it would have made the voice ten times worse. obviously, this isnt a blanket statement, but the gentlemen commenting on this video was incorrect in saying that weed is a chill out drug and also im just really personally pissed off that people like cruz try and pretend to be like people like us, it only adds to the stigma surrounding psychosis.
@little_bunni_hunni3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, it pisses me off too, not to say there aren't some who actually are dealing with true mental illness but I know a lot of people who have mental issues and a wide variety of them and none of them go out and do this kind of stuff, and the ones who do legitimately have mental illness it seldom if ever turns violent or worse. And there is usually some sort of history of the illness wether in the family or having been to a doctor or psychiatrist usually. There's already so much stigma around mental illness and people like this guy just add so much to it it really irks me.
@angiestalesfromwales15903 жыл бұрын
@@little_bunni_hunni oh yeah for sure, some mentally ill people do commit crimes, the same way non mentally ill people commit crimes. however, people specifically with psychotic disorders are more likely to be victims of violent crime, especially when it comes to domestic violence, assault, sexual assault, stuff like that, simply because we can't always trust our own perception of reality and we're very easy to gaslight and take advantage of. I forget the exact statistic, but there are more mentally sound people who have committed crimes than mentally ill people, we're more likely to be the victims than the victimiser. it's honestly just downright offensive that people like cruz will make a caricature of what genuinely psychotic people are like in order to evade responsibility for a crime they planned and carried out with full cognitive function. people like him are the reason why people call violent criminals "psychotic", because they add to the stigma of the crazed axe man schizophrenic. it infuriates me. im glad it rarely ever works but sometimes the damage is done regardless.

By that, I don't mean that they've done either so much that it's the same thing, I mean that it never fostered a different psychological response. If I hadn't been counseled for years and lived in the US, no doubt I would've just killed anyone in cold blood by now. If I killed someone right now, I'd definitely feel the same emotions as I do when I eat cereals: none. Not even "oh hey, I did something I shouldn't have", just going on with my day. One of the more simpler things we talked about was the idea that if you ask for a small favor, and then ask for a bigger favor, you are much more likely to have both your wishes granted. For example, if you ask a parent for 5 bucks, and then return shortly after saying "dang, I actually need 20 more dollars", you could leave with $25. But if you just come right out and ask for $20, they might tell you to fuck off. I think thats the point of asking questions about his phone.

The police will always want an interview even though there's no question of guilt. They don't need the motive for conviction but it certainly helps to know why for several reasons. They also want to know if there are any other people that they can potentially charge. Any accomplices, where the weapon came from, anyone know what you were going to do in advance. The police will bend over backwards to get you to talk about your crime especially a high profile shooting such as this.
@colleenwhitman90402 жыл бұрын
Well stated and 100% correct. And as the lawyer here so succinctly stated, it’s not just about a conviction. Because- yes in some cases the criminal is caught dead to rights and you don’t need a confession. It’s about the victims and getting information and answers and the “ why “for loved ones affected by the crime too. Secondary to the victims is the knowledge gained for law enforcement in understanding the crime and how to continuously improve on the ability to catch and even try to prevent further crime in the future. And I’m one of those that is very unsympathetic to criminals. We ALL have a story, and ALL have bad things that have happened to us in life. So no matter what being a criminal is a CHOICE. However, that being said, I want every single person charged with a crime to have the best defense possible- no matter the ability to pay. It’s the bedrock of our freedom and everyone is entitled to it! And I would rather 100 guilty people go free than one innocent person be jailed. So , on that note anything that helps the police do a better job and lower the number of innocent people being dragged through the legal system is a good thing.
@Robert08010 Жыл бұрын
No disrespect intended, but I have a problem wit the concept of "the BEST defense". Our legal system allows for a lawyer to KNOW the truth and still go into court and lie in defense of the guilty party. That sickens me. It's due to a combination of children being alternately either mis- or over- medicated and the now-widespread cultural belief that what happens to you is purely the result of what society does to you (both things that were extremely uncommon in both American public and private life before the explosion of school shootings that abruptly started in 1997).

As a German, I cringe every time when he describes the panzermensch song as eViL. Like it’s just techno with lyrics describing dancing cyborgs, it’s at best a tad rebellious. And just fyi - because I think along with the commonly aggressive sound of the German language, he took the word at face value - the core definition of "panzer" isn’t necessarily "tank". It is used to describe exceptionally hard and protective outer shells of things, like the shield of a tortoise, or protective gear [in that case you use it as an adjective: gepanzert]. He fully just went with the common non German speaker association with panzer and war, because panzer = war = eViL

I’m autistic and suck at telling human emotions by someone’s face. I pick up instantly on someone’s voice and tone. To me his voice seemed small and as if he didn’t want to talk but forced the words out. When he says why he quit school his voice sounded proud when he said he got into a fight. When he says he lost the fight he sounded annoyed and talking about not liking school, he sounds annoyed with the situation. When he says they quit going and he transferred he sounded reluctant but annoyed/frustrated. They start talking about the demons his voice rises with pride and a tinge of “yeah you should be scared of me”. When the detective calls him out on the birds he goes back to lower smaller voice because he feels stupid again I’m assuming. When he speaks of the demons voice again he speaks louder and matter of fact. He is trying to sell a story he knows is not true, you can hear the lie in his voice. When the video plays of him talking about the crime he is loud and matter of fact and proud and boastful. When he says the voice is male he sounds offended that the detective would suggest that he’s got a female voice. He angered him when he said that he’s a psychiatrist because he has kids and he states that he wants to see one matter of fact and bluntly. The kid is annoyed that he’s asking why he wants to talk to the psychiatrist. The detectives voice gets louder I noticed around this time and he doesn’t tread as lightly, the boy sounds like hes making up stuff while saying the voices come at x time every day. He was annoyed when the detective says army ranger. Just by this point in the video it’s very apparent this young man maybe researched paranoid schizophrenia and is trying to imitate what he thinks it is. Pretty much as nicely as possible this kid is full of it. He is a cold blooded killer and never cut himself. He thinks he’s better than us. I hope the families can heal one day. I can’t imagine the grief and anger they feel.

i have to say as someone who has lots of experience working with very schizophrenic people, very rarely will someone who experiences auditory hallucinations describe them as "inside their head." that's what tipped me off about him claiming he was crazy or something. nine times out of ten, the "voices" sound like voices of people in the room with you, or you'd hear voices through the walls or something (that is to say of course everybody with visual/auditory hallucinations experiences them differently). plus, the more lucid schizophrenic patients of mine can very clearly describe to you how the voices sound, where they come from, what they say, how many there are etc etc. let's not forget the voices don't ever really stop, and they can become an indelible part of someone's life....
