Both Gideon and Rossi have founded the BAU many years ago. However, Gideon resigned from the BAU at the end of season two and the beginning of season three after Frank Breitkopf killed his girlfriend and he later lived off the grid in a nice remote cabin. Rossi later returned in “About Face”, after ten years of retirement. The reason why David returned because he wanted to solve Diane and Richard Galen homicide that was left unsolved for twenty years and he also wanted to stop a dormant killer named Donnie Mallick because he killed innocent people. In “Nelson’s Sparrow”, David was devastated that he lost his good friend and colleague, Jason Gideon. Rossi later avenged Gideon’s death when he killed Mallick.

You see the same thing on NCIS. Every one of the Agency Chiefs, I think there were 3, complained about the politics. They really disliked working with other agencies and figuring out who has jurisdiction. Especially when Gibbs like Rossi, doesn't care. Unlike Rossi, Gibbs is a loose cannon. Yes he got things done, but he stepped on toes, rocked the boat, etc... then told his boss they were welcomed to clean up the mess.

To be fair, I don't get the hate on for her in this clip. Every governmental agency, no matter how big or small has to think about the politics. The only thing she said that was low key out of line was threatening Morgan's job. Otherwise, her debate with them was calm, and she made reasonable points. Take a rich dude in w/o evidence and you're in a world of hurt. As a boss, she could have just said "no, follow my orders" because she was the boss w/o discussion.

It sucks, but he's rich enough that if they arrested that dude without any real proof his lawyers would fuck them up and it could ruin the arrest and all of their jobs. Like, she clearly is saying no only cause he's powerful, but she's also the one that would have to either save them or be forced to fire them if it didn't work.

Right? She didn't tell them to stop investigating. She told them they had no evidence, which they didn't. As awesome as the arrest scene was, they could have just have easily been wrong and brought a bunch of retribution onto the team. Or worse, they could have been right, only to have the guy weasel out of it because of gaping holes in the case. Not caring about politics doesn't actually make them go away. Of course, I get Morgan's side too. They had to solve the case quickly to clear the other guy's name.There was no perfect answer here, but I wish people would stop acting like Strauss was some ridiculous villain for doing her job.

Honestly Erin gets so much hate for having to be the voice of reason. Looooove the BAU but the team goes in guns blazing a lot. She’s got more important people coming down on her head constantly and really at the end of the day she’s actually trying to protect their jobs. If the BAU gets a slander charge and they’re wrong, a politician holds a lot of power to get those people fired and Erin won’t be able to stop her bosses from firing them. She acts as a reminder to them that their actions can carry very real consequences if they don’t at least think about them before they do them. But she always has the backs of the team when it comes to their bosses and public opinion. She might disagree to their faces but she supports their decisions when they’re looked at in judgment.
