Bernard is a gangster groupie. He's always tried to latch onto hard and powerful men, probably because he's insecure himself (and maybe bats for the other side). From what I have heard from my relative he was a complete sycophant to the gangsters he met when he was a doorman. He would get like a giggling bashful schoolgirl around them. He particularly fancied Tony Tucker and would practically kiss his boots and try to impress him. He didn't know the Essex boys on a close friend level, he just knew them casually from working on the doors. They were big egos so tolerated his boot licking and hanging about them like a bad smell in the club, laughing loudly at anything they said and patting them on their backs. He just takes info he's heard from other names he's collected like a groupie does and passes it off as his own direct info to make it look like he's connected. Bernard has very low self-esteem, you can see it in this interview where he's really nervous and has to check his notes to make sure his lies don't get tangled up. I mean if you are telling the truth you don't need notes to remember what happened. Anyway Because of Bernard's insecurities he's easily led and manipulated. He got manipulated into campaigning to get convicted murderer Michelle Taylor released from prison. Once released he had an affair with her then she left him and he admitted that she was guilty, and tried to get her back in prison. This just shows his lack of integrity and dishonesty. When Bernard was making his groupie gangster documentary where he went around the country boot licking hard men has-beens he eventually met Paddy Conroy. Bernard fell in love with Paddy and moved his entire life to Newcastle to be near him. Paddy got his cousin to marry Bernard to keep their weird relationship secret. Bernard even opened up a café dedicated to all the hard men he was a groupie for, but this quickly failed like all his projects. Paddy it should be noted is a complete liar, second only to Brian cockerill for lies, so no wonder Bernard fell in love with him. Finally, Bernard campaigned for years saying the convicted killers of the Essex boys were wrongfully imprisoned. Then suddenly one day he shut his website down and declared them guilty... Just more evidence of how unreliable and dishonest this fella is. I can't believe people even listen to and believe him. He's a complete fantasist. He's a grown man who goes around the country trying to make friends with hard men and gangsters, something a teenage girl does when trying to be a groupie for a band. Also note how he always insists on declaring he's of Irish descent at all opportunities? This is what insecure people do, they are desperate to be something else. He probably thinks it makes him more interesting and cool to be part Irish, he has the mind of a teenage boy trying to impress people at school.

Lot of people on here saying "why all the hate for Bernie", Tone. Truth is you've all spent years promoting and making a movie hero out of Leach. Naturally a lot of Internet nuggets want to believe it's true. So when Bernard has a fall out with Leach he incurs the wrath of the nuggets. Despite who you chose to believe or who tells the most exciting story Bernard does tend to present his version in a far more believable account with a level of research involved. Leach claims to have shagged every barmaid he ever met and let the Turkish mafia off with a warning coz his mate Tucker told him it's not worth the agg. I've met Leach at VIP areas of Boxing events, I've also met that Dave Courtney character too at unlicensed events. There are genuinely a lot of low intelligence people out there who look up to such characters. And want to have their photos took with them and want to believe their stories are true. Neither Leach or Courtney are the sort of guys to not let the truth gey in the way of a good story. When Bernard pops up with dates, newspaper articles and facts it tends to piss on Leach's parade, so no wonder he gets upset. Courtney's cronies now claim that he made you a success Tone by giving you a leg up and then you turned your back on him. Truth is you don't get successful from a leg up, it takes years of consistent hard work with a good dose of acumen. If turning your back means getting bored of hearing the same 12 fake gangster stories and cracking on with your life then you are probably guilty as charged Tone.

I've seen and heard a lot about Charlton leach over the years since rise of the foot soldier was released. I think he knew tony tucker, was jealous of the friendship between craid rolf and tucker. He was on the outskirts of the Essex boys 3 but seemed to want to inject himself to the inner circle. Even the film shows that when Pat tate is released, it becomes less of carlton leaches story and more about the Romford murders. It's his 5 minutes of fame with a small connection with a major crime.

Mate dont be gullible. Mahoney is not right about Steele or Whomes. When u look at big picture - u think steele plans something like that. Nobody would do that in heavy traffic snowing at 7pm, so that 100 cars would hear a fuselage of shots. Was defo done how Jasper says and by who he says (a trained soldier). U think Steele would use a broken down VW and Darren to carry that out. Never in a million years.
@terrystone7435 ай бұрын
I'm not gullible these are Bernie's words and the Authorities not mine. I hope they are innocent as I don't think it's fair if anyone get's wrongfully imprisoned or charged for something they are not guilty of.

@@terrystone743 Much respect to you buddy but I wish journalists would press their guests a bit. Sure Bernie is correct about his life stories, but he starts making up his own world when it comes to that Essex thing. Carlton is no different. Maybe get Albert Patrick on the detective.

Probably, but I reckon O Mahoney is too. How the f can he sit on a podcast and admit to falsifying evidence in a murder case (which led to guilty women being set free) and have nothing done? That was glossed over in this one, he just said the police essentially let him off!
