It’s crazy how tik tok is really the perfect storm of incentive for kids doing ridiculous stupid crap. I know it’s not all kids, but the ones whose parents don’t care what they’re doing online basically have unfettered access to the whole of the internet, including the predatory parts. Part of this is a tik tok problem, they KNOW that it’s primarily kids using the app and they don’t regulate any of this ridiculous crap these kids see, but it is primarily the parents fault.

I agree it's primarily the parents fault, and I also agree it's partly TikTok's fault. Earlier this month, we had schools closing in my state because of Tiktoks that were going around saying it was national school shooting day, and that kids should shoot their schools up. I had actually seen videos on Tiktok about it long before our school district sent out a letter, so imo Tiktok should've taken more caution and taken those videos encouraging it down. However, the amount of parents who responded to the school district in social media and said they had no idea this was being talked about, yet their kids knew about it, was highly alarming. Tiktok needs to create and enforce a much better set of guidelines than it currently has now, and parents need to get off their behinds and actually monitor their kids' internet usage.

I remember when the ‘devious lick’ trend was going around, a student was caught stealing a whole towel dispensers from my school and lots of other students got caught taking coffee and personal items from the teachers lounge, which was an open area in my school with a wall border, now we can’t go to the bathroom and if we do we have to be monitored by an adult which causes its own problem cause multiple students said that some off the staff were looking in the stalls as they used the restroom and most of them became uncomfortable which is understandable. We also had to use a sign up sheet and put or names, school ids, and the time stamps if we ever left the classroom. Any of these things can make students uncomfortable but due to the actions of others we all had to suffer in such a way.

The problem is the "choose" part. Young teenagers and children lack in making informed choices hence why they always need adult permission or are protected by the law to consent or partake in purchasing alcohol etc... Therefore, without a fully grown brain and matured decision making skills, some children are easily able to 'choose' to do something detrimental to their wellbeing without knowing the full risks. At the end of the day, people make their own decisions, and they need to learn to deal with the consequences.
@cyanity10176 ай бұрын
Yeah, cause even if someone is raised and watched over very well there's still always the chance they'll do horrible things. Like, there are serial killers that exist who had very good lives and were raised by very good parents but still ended up as killers so how hard is it to believe that a kid would follow a dangerous tiktok trend even if they knew it was bad and were raised to know so.
@sinnerthesinful5525 ай бұрын
Hmm... if only one of those 3 was responsible for the other 2, oh wait, it is. If it's tik tok, just ban the kids from using it, if your kids are making poor decisions punish them, either by yourself or by having them deal with the consequences, raising someone isn't just teaching and guiding through positive influences, everyone needs punishments too, take their phone, ground them, instil a curfew until they start behaving like sane people, if tik tok is a problem forbid them from downloading, using or posting in it

@@cyanity1017 parents who do their jobs well will at least warn society of the serial killers they are raising, or get them institutionalized. A good chunk of the problem is lack of parenting. I think in cases where minors are committing felonies, the parents should go to jail alongside them for “aiding and abetting”, unless the parent was literally taking steps to try to get their child committed or put away for being a danger to others. Children learn through imitation of what they see. If the parents engage in unhinged behavior or never engage with their kids at all…. The kids will imitate undesirable behaviors. I have stole something once but years before this trend started, it was in elementary school and I was 6. I saw a gold little badge and I wanted to have it, I didn’t know anything better and stole it. I thought it was “magical” and that’s why. But these kids know exactly what they are doing and I’m disturbed and disgusted that they just do this for some internet likes, views and clout.

I used to steal things in elementary too. Just impulsively took things despite feeling some guilt. Don't know why I did it, really. The biggest thing being a classmate's binder for some reason. I don't really know why, maybe I thought it looked cooler than what I had or something. I also stole many pencils, pens and even a few things (like those 'special pens' teachers use) from the teacher's desk. May have even been a little bit of a klepto or something, I dunno. Good news is I haven't stolen anything since 4th grade, and I'm now going into my senior year in high school (Edited because my brain forgot to spell and the typo was driving me crazy)

Teen's brains aren't nearly fully developed, the decision-making and risk-assessment part specifically isn't. I think parents need to teach the kids about the dangers, repercussions, etc. of these behaviors as well as try to get them to understand online validation isn't worth it. But TikTok also needs to step up it's game on punishing this behavior so they can't go viral in the first place. Not everyone has parents who are present, or parents who understand anything about TikTok.

My elementary school once got “Devious Licked” and this one dude stole all the soap dispensers. I was so angry and we could only use the hand sanitizer that when you would eat with it on your skin, the food would taste like it. Was a horrible week and I always refused to eat snack.

"this is why children should not have cellphones" they should just in case of an accident or they feel like their in danger yk- but you should most definitely disable harmful apps that way they can't get any ideas-

I didn’t even have a phone until I moved schools to one a bit further from home and even then I had a Nokia until I was in in 4th grade. When I actually got a phone my mum didn’t let me have social media at all.

Tik tok should be 100% held accountable for allowing those crimes to be posted and the kids should be 100% accountable for their actions
