Bought the Palma. Agree price is probably too high. But I now almost always now read on the Palma. Easy to hold and turn pages with one hand. Display excellent. Recommended.

5:00 “I find weirdly that when I'm reading on it the Kindle screen feels like it's slightly bigger even though it's actually slightly smaller" That because the Kindle screen _is_ bigger even though it has a smaller diagonal: The Kindle is 6” diagonally with a 1448px*1072px resolution giving it an area of 111cm². The Palma is 6.13" diagonally with a 824px*1648px resolution giving it an area of 97cm². So the Kindle’s screen is 14% percent bigger than the Palma. Your feeling is spot on 👍 Honestly it’s kinda stupid that diagonal has become the primary way to describe the size of screens. The area is the _actual_ size and the diagonal only really makes sense when comparing, say, TVs that all have the same aspect ratio. Hope it helps and thanks for a great comparison :)

I'm looking to replace my trusty (and still working!) Kindle 3G with something smaller and that has a lit screen. I've been oogling the Boox Palma for over a week now, somehow avoiding the impulse purchase. I hadn't even considered a Kindle Basic until you held it up next to the Palma in the first 5-seconds of the video. Thanks for that! I'm now heavily considering the Kindle Basic for its smaller size and it's smaller price!

The Basic is a really solid device

As I said before, I find these reviews always very useful. Thank you for doing them. Most of the time I haven't even heard of the other device that you're talking about in this case the palma.

Despite saying I wouldn't, I went and got myself a Palma. I find battery life is much better if I power it down completely between reading sessions, rather than just putting it to sleep. A bit of a pain booting it up from scratch each time, but at least I'm not constantly charging it. One thing I've noticed which I haven't heard anyone else mention is that the print isn't as crisp as it is on the Kindle. I've fiddled with the resolution settings but it doesn't seem to help. Not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if that's just how it is.

I haven’t noticed that with mine (the text crispness) - I have mine on HD with high contrast

I have both. Palm is my go to when I’m on the go. At home, I have larger Kindles and a Kobo Sage, plus an iPad, so I don’t use the Palma. But what I’ve found is that the Palma is great for Shortform reading, adequate for Longform and book reading, and since I can link the Palma to my iPhone hotspot, it’s just the perfect mobile e-reader for on the go reader.

I got a Boox Palma 2 and I adoooore it! I mostly use it to read fiction and manga via the web browser.

I have a Boox Page after years of being Kindle only. Like you, I enjoy using library apps on it as well as sideloading older, public domain ebooks. The only real problem I see with the Page is that it, like the Kindle, is awkward to hold with one hand. In fact, I'd say it is difficult to hold with one hand for longer than a few minutes owing to its weight. Still, it is slightly cheaper than a Palma and has a wider screen, which I appreciate. Also, the "boot up" time is shockingly slow, though once the device is fully on, it is faster than my Kindle.

Coming from a family of bibliophiles we jumped on the kindle train super early. I seem to remember one of the earlier kindles had those side buttons to turn pages, but it's deffo not standard anymore. I'm pretty married to the Kindle Fire Tablet as a whole, but I've been blind to other products. I really appreciate your taking the time to tell us about the pros and cons of different devices. It helps make a more informed decision. Another plus for the Boox Palma is that it would fit in my purse better. hehe.

Nice review. I don't have much problem reading non Kindle books on my Kindle, though. They aren't hard to add. Obviously, it doesn't have the versatility of the Boox, though.

Thank you, great review. I'll never understand why people piss and moan about, or jump through hoops to extend battery life/charging. Ereader, tablet, phone, smartwatch, etc... is it really so hard to just charge the device while you're sleeping 🤦 C'mon people...

Very well done review. I read maybe 1 ebook yearly so I just read on the Libby app on my Amazon Fire tablet.

I was just researching the another distraction free hand held mini reader for under $90 - I am showing great restraint and did not purchase. I can’t read off my phone due to notifications and distractions. 🤷🏻♀️

I don’t know what it is about reading a book on a screen but I just never could. When Nook’s 1st came out I ask for 1 on my Bday, years ago. My eyes just couldn’t seem to adjust. I felt like I had eye strain after 5 mins of reading SO just a regular real book works for me. Hardback preferred but on occasion I’ll read paperback’s🤷🏻♀️📚❤️

I have my eye on the white one, but do I need it? Or do I want it? My books are on the Amazon eco system; however, it is nice to know I can read the few Kobo books. But do I want this new gadget ‘cause I love gadgets. 😆🙄

I have the Kindle basic but based on yr previous review I'm considering getting the Palma next time I need an reader. Navigating around my Kindle us SO slow. Plus I cannot figure out how to stop it skipping ahead two pages at a time too often when I tap. So a device with buttons sounds much better to me.
@brett52875 ай бұрын
Why don’t you use the Palma when falling asleep? Is it difficult to position in a way that is conducive to restful reading in bed? Considering getting one but nighttime reading is one use I will have for it.

I have both, the battery life on the palma isn't great. And I feel like the screen light blurs the writing. For the price I'm a bit disappointed.

great video thank you Unfortunately, turning pages in the Kindle app doesn't work for us. no matter what I set (whether page turning or scrolling)
@CriminOllyBlog6 ай бұрын
What you need to do is set the setting in the Palma settings to “volume” and then in the kindle app switch on the “use volume controls to turn pages” option.
