Great information. I can’t wait to use this lighting effect.

Great tips in this video. Will definitely try to use this technique in some of my short film work.

I just bought the Powerhouse, it's definitely a great light and a real game changer. I think it could (and probably will) de-throne the 300D, especially when the V mount battery power supply is released. I previously had two 300Ds and really hated dealing with the time consuming tangle of cables and boxes. Plus at nearly 3X the power, the Powerhouse will definitely win over a lot of people. Loved your top down lighting demonstration. I kept wondering about using a grid that was a just bit too big for the softbox so it would have a slight sag in the middle which would have the effect of widening the beam angle to hit faces just a bit more direct, but would still keep the light off the surrounding walls. Just a thought.

Benton Collins how is the fan noise in the head though?

Why did you use this light over the aputure 300D? Which is almost exactly the same specs. Why didn’t you rig a soft box to the ds1 for this set up?
@Crimsonengine5 жыл бұрын
Aputure 300d is 9000 lux at 3 feet. This light is 63,000 lux at the same distance. Its in a whole different league and its $300 less.

Recommend the Genaray over a 300D?

Great video. It looked much better with the bounce. Just not a big fan of the harsher light at the top of the head.

Thanks Tracy - I've learned that bounce is a must!

Chimera makes a 30" Lantern for Bowens mount, any advantage to it over a soft box?
@Crimsonengine5 жыл бұрын
I'd have to do some research, but my understanding is that a lantern gives a more spread our light, where as a softbox lets you add a grid to keep the spill off the walls.

Crimson Engine It comes with a skirt but probably not as much control. I’m intrigued because I see them used a lot for these interrogation scenes but more so on boom poles following actors (Check Grand Budapest Hotel BTS)

Its actually referred to as 'The Spider Palace' due to the crazy amount of black widows we've found there.
