Man, what an insufferable player. I can kinda get his annoyance over the whole werebear thing, but when the DM asks “are you sure” *repeatedly*, that’s generally a sign to either rethink your methods or prepare yourself for a very bad outcome.

I think that is up to the player to state his desire with the action. "I want to bite her on the neck like a vampire" or "I want the bite to turn her into a were bear." when prompted by the dm are you sure?

The werebear thing is the one part of this that I lay the responsibility solely on DM's feet. DM should have just let it slide. Who cares if "realistically" biting someone on the neck with giant bear jaws would kill them? "Realistically" werebears don't exist anyway so screw it. Point is: DM gave CC a character to play, and CC was playing the character and NOT disrupting the game for once. Until DM spot-ruled that CC's character was a murderer now, basically just for the hell of it. And then DM is actually shocked when CC immediately descends back into "let's ruin the game" mode.

It always pisses me off when a player pulls "wasn't Lovecraft a racist". The only module I have run is Call of Cthulhu and I'm a massive fan of the Mythos, to the point that I've read every book on the man. I've had so many people derail a campaign because of that argument. First off: the man was afraid of everything and incredibly ignorant (he didn't even know how air conditioning worked) and you're suprised he was a racist? Second: his dad named the cat, and he renounced a lot of his ignorant racist views much later in life Sorry I'm just very passionate about this...

Honestly anyone who pulls that out will get a "yeah yeah we know this shit already, now shut up and play or GTFO", I agree with you on this when it comes to Lovecraft and it's nothing more then idiots wanting attention at this point. (Like that idiot who keeps re-enacting "Singing in the rain" everytime your both outside in the rain. First time it was amusing, second time okay....but doing it EVERY SINGLE TIME GETS ANNOYING! And it's not a problem....till you tell them this at the point it's getting annoying and they choose to ignore your complaint and do it anyway cause they figure "ANY TYPE OF ATTENTION IS GOOD ATTENTION!" Idiots are taking the Infame route to get attention without realizing that's not going to end well for them by the time they realize how stupid that route was!) It's sad we're going to be in the era of "Pay attention to me" for a good long while till enough of this stupid finally scares even the biggest idiot in keeping shit to themselves (seeing what happens to the other idiots who play this game once they realize "it's not funny anymore" themselves)

I think the funniest lasting impact from him is that now there are people who think 'non-Euclidean geometry' means... psychedelic... or something, simply because he failed math. In the real world, non-Euclidean geometry means geometry on a globe/curved surface, as opposed to the impossibly flat, 'perfect' geometry found in a textbook. So when you look at this supposedly scary, unearthly thing and see-- completely normal, real-to-life geometry-- you're supposed to jump out of your skin because Lovecraft failed math. Probably long before you were even born. He's like the inventor of the 'Man Door Hand Hook Car Door' type trollpastas, only he was _dead serious._

At this point if I were dming I would say to retcon on pacifism or he is kicked from the group and rest of session his character will be my dmpc support because I am not going to rebalance encounters. At least online. Having balls irl is much harder and I would probably be wtf like a little female dog. Honestly I have that half of the horrorstories happen because dms don't imagine they have to be adult babysitting(adultsitting?) through problems as they are too busy world building.

1: There is no game I have ever DMed or played where someone being a Pacifist went well, in or out of game. 2: Pick a fight with a duke of hell, don't be surprised when you get snapped out of existence. 3: There is literally no instance where putting on something that prompts a wisdom save is not cursed, you lose all privilege to argue when you keep wearing it for LITERAL WEEKS.

I played a pacifist once! … again I was the party healer. Mostly did spells to knock enemies back or support allies, I don’t think I ended up killing anything. (There Were arguments in character because of our characters’ conflicting morals, but it was fun for us ooc, )

I know I'm not the only one to mention this, but while clearly CC does suck as a player, the DM was waaay out of line with the WereBear thing. He freaking _knew_ what CC intended to do. And he _knew_ that CC didn't understand what he meant by "Are you sure?" I mean he flat out admits it. That was entrapment on the DM's part. He clearly just wanted CC gone but didn't have the stones to have a conversation with him about it. Bad form.

There are many spells and items that cause characters to do stuff they wouldn't normally do, I don't know why he's screaming about him putting on a cursed item and complaining the curse took effect, making him attack random creatures. There's also a magic item in the core rules where if you touch it, it will turn you into a demon and make you go on a killing spree, he should be glad he just had to have the mask taken off to end the effect.

You know who this guy is, and that he's not interested in playing a group game, he cares nothing for anyone else having a good time, he's a mindless troll. If you're gonna let him in games, you obviously need to give him stricter limits including just saying No, you're not doing that.

Big disagree. A werebear has a huge powerful jaw and biting a helpless person in the neck is sure to kill. Besides you have to deal damage in order to give the curse, that's literally how it works. P.S. it's should *have* not should of.

One thing I will say to criticize the OP here is that the bit with the bear was being a really shitty DM, tbh. 1. In many stories, werewolves DO transfer the curse via a bite, so unless they established that it didn't work like that in this universe, it's perfectly reasonable for CC to believe he could transfer the curse that way...the real dumb decision was trying to convert some random into a werebear. 2. A bear can control how hard it bites, so it's ridiculous to rule that an auto kill, unless via a failed roll. In situations where a player clearly has an idea of what will happen that differs from the DM, there's an obligation by the DM to ensure they and the player are on the same page about "what is reality". For example, let's say you have a 15 ft chasm...a player says they want to jump across. The DM says "are you sure?" Player agrees and then plummets to their death, no roll, because DM believes that it would be impossible to jump that chasm.

Why allow him to go to such extent in the first place? the logical thing to do is control him, and if he doesn't want to behave, kick him out. Op could be a bad Dm, but more so because he lets things slide too easily with this problem player.

I agree with most of it, except with making the werebear kill the dwarf. The players intentions are important. Mauling and bitting are different, but I can underarms being frustrated enough with the player to take out to that extreme.

CC strikes me as a guy with no foresight and little consideration for others. I feel like OP should have explained that he was being tactless and ruining the game for other players and the DM as opposed to just let him continue his petty nonsense. Like, to call him out, not on the thing he did, but the way it made everyone feel, to try and make him understand WHY he can't just do whatever he wants, because it's clearly not working the other way around. And I think the DM should just have flat out said dude, this will either get your character killed or derail the campaign, and if he still does it, just take his sheet away and tell him to give a new, smarter character. We all play for different reason and with different capacity, but CC is ruining the game for everyone else at the table.

If you want to ignore realism, then keep in mind werecreatures must deal damage through their attacks in order to provoke a save that IF failed, means the curse has been passed on. That sleeping dwarf was probably a lvl 1 commoner.

Any time the player makes a stupid decision like that, his character should immediately die in a way which impacts the story as minimally as possible. Eg, don't let him successfully burn down the house etc.
