Love these lists, man. Also love your comments on politically-themed metal: it better be done as an art and not pandering. I have very strong political views, but I DO NOT NEED my music to reflect that. It sucks when people just want their music to pander to their beliefs. I'm not saying I am an ethereal being who has ascended to a level beyond: I'm saying I hate that a lot of badly-themed music is coming out because people who need their politics constantly massaged in every aspect of their life will eat it up. Demand better! Oh and fun fact: my wife knew Brandon from Bleeding Through and said he was a massive tool.

I wouldn’t say Baby Metal are cringe. I see why they can be labeled as such, but they’re just industry plants. Those girls have been through absolute hell being used up by the Japanese “idol” scene that rely on abuse, neglect and near-torturous methods to get their albums on the global scale. Same reason why I don’t find BTS music cringe, but rather depressing on how big they are, and how many people enjoy that. And as soon as I saw Pantera on this list, I had to pull out the 🍿! I respectfully disagree with your assessment of Disturbed "The Sound of Silence". I have long enjoyed the Simon and Garfunkel original, and when I heard Disturbed's version, I was impressed. What was a quiet and minimal song was now a heavy song that seemed to grow as it progressed, becoming a song to the masses. I don't think it affects the original in any negative way, and even Paul Simon himself regards the song as an excellent cover of the original. Is it as good? Debatable. Is it good in its own right? Yes. Actually I've thought Disturbed has a knack for turning pop standards into metal songs and doing it well (see Shout and Land of Confusion). But in the end, we have our opinions and if we disagree, we should do it in a civilized manner. Thank you.

With Babymetal, I'm more of a casual listener than a diehard fan, but I honestly don't find them cringey.

Bro, I personally love Skillet because they were the first band to introduce me to rock music when I was in high school (next to Breaking Benjamin) and without them I probably wouldn’t listen to some of the greatest rock and metal bands that i listen to today. So yeah I found it absolutely painful to see you put Skillet on “pure cringe”😂 but I understand, that band is not everyone’s cup of tea.

I don't listen to anything past Hydra with Otep. Love her, love her work, but whatever direction the band is going isn't my sound. Wish them the best, hopefully we get something that blows our brains out.

Otep the band kicks ass. Otep Shamaya the person is a cringe factory. I stopped listening when they were still bitching about Bush doctrine In like 2013 or something

I see your point on OTEP But.......I think they got REALLY good after a while ! I havnt heard there newest stuff if there is but Smash the Control Machine era i liked a lot ! Even the Nirvana cover i liked !

I liked Otep’s first album. It had some cringe in it but the music wasn’t bad. But by the second record they ramped up the cringe and I saw the writing on the wall and I dipped out on them. They’ve just gotten more and more cringe with each release. It’s really bad now and I have no regrets for not listening to them any in the last 15 years.

I absolutely love Nightwish and other Nightwish fans I have met are relaxed about them and love Epica too (let’s face it Epica is INCREDIBLE and Nightwish with Floor is fantastic as hell too. Nightwish Vs Epica is like Metallica vs Megadeth. Nightwish has their songs that just aren’t pleasing lyrically and sometimes vocally but are very well composed. Epica is just incredible all around
@Joemama55122 Жыл бұрын
I think people just say NW or Epica cos theyre the biggest bands in the genre everyone liked both its just which is more your thing rather than metallica vs megadeth being cos you can inly like one appearently

Honestly I agree with everything on this list except for HIM being at the top of the cringe list. Their early albums definitely embrace what Gothic metal is, other then that solid video my friend 🤘
@KaiDecadence2 жыл бұрын
But is HIM's early work really "Gothic Metal" though? Like I've heard some people say this and I just don't hear any "metal" in their sound, even the early stuff. To me, it just comes off as darker style Hard Rock. Like they were the male equivalent of Evanescence.
@lerrajthedemonvampire72902 жыл бұрын
@@KaiDecadence They're definitely Gothic metal, I don't think I wouldn't compare them to evanescence at all. Their later work maybe but for the most part HIM is a Gothic band.They just don't use harsh vocals like most Goth bands such as moonspell, lacrimas profundere and paradise lost
@KaiDecadence2 жыл бұрын
@@lerrajthedemonvampire7290 now that I'm sorry they are definitely not a goth rock band. They don't use any characteristics of goth rock whatsoever, namely the style of guitar playing that defines the goth rock sound ("scything guitar" play style) I suppose I'll have to listen to their early stuff again to hear the metal. Like when I hear "join me in death". I just hear straight forward hard rock guitars with a piano accompanying it.
@meelsky2 жыл бұрын
Tbh I never found them that cringe, and of you put aside the lyrics the music is beautiful
@KaiDecadence2 жыл бұрын
@@billyj.causeyvideoguy7361 I feel like "Love Metal" doesn't exist. Yes I remember them being called that back in the 00s but there was no distinction or explanation of what that is. Plus there were no other bands who called themselves that neither. Like I said, I just feel like they were just some darker style Hard Rock band. I don't hear any metal guitar riffs in their work at all.

Early Otep was pretty good news metal but she seems like such an unfun and cheesy lesbian to ever have a conversation.

I was thinking about being like 11 and LOVING two songs from Blood on the Dancefloor (Death to your Heart and I think the Wonderland one???). I couldn't figure out what the band was called for good reasons, but it's so bad lmaoo. I have a core memory of them joking about their music being inspired by the sound of a dying cat?? Where's my Wonderland still is decent but the lyrical writing is SO lazy. It took looking up "cringy scene bands" to find them though, so I can now rest in peace.
@DJTheMetalheadMercenary2 жыл бұрын
LMAO!!! The only one I disagree with is Deicide even being on the cringe list, they just do Death Metal right, those dual/ layered vocals are succulent and the riffs are on freaking point. Glen is Florida Man, so i'll give 'em that looool.

Babymetal is awesome! I think a lot of people cringe on them because of ego, if that makes sense. "I'm too hardcore for this" kind of thing. But man, they're heavy and fun.
@actuallynotsteve2 жыл бұрын
@@raeraebadfingers Yeah, I almost fell victim to that mistake myself. Initially I only anything'd Babymetal because a Ukrainian friend of mine was in LA for a while and asked me if I'd go see them with him, almost as a favor, because he didn't want to go alone. This was in like 2018 or 2019, they came and played the Palladium IIRC. I went in thinking it was going to just be like a sensible chuckle and I was being a good friend. By the time I walked out, I was trying to decide whether what I'd just seen was in my Top 10 or Top 5 shows of all time. And I've seen thousands of live shows. As soon as I put my ego aside they immediately became one of my favorite new bands. They absolutely slap on all fronts and I've seen them a second time now. It's nearly impossible to convince somebody to check them out that doesn't have that experimental/curious gene in them, and it's a shame. They're doing some really innovative stuff.
