@@Reflection554 Obviously a lot of hands had to drop the ball to get it to this point but tbh, the fact that there is a source material as a reference to the scene I would expect an actor that is being paid to reprise a role to reference back to Rick Gomez’s performance in the original to get the right inclinations and tones from the scenes. Tbh it kind of sounds like he’s reading off the script without really knowing what he is diving into. Direction plays a part but its weird to me that they nail 90% of the new voice cast and fumble with Zack and Seph in my opinion. Caleb is either serviceable or notably off beat to my ears. No hate to anyone that likes him though.

I think the direction is honestly quite wonky, but the same goes for Aerith imo, and I don't remember any super awkward voice lines from her in Remake. Just bad/rushed direction for this. Not denying that the original could well be better. I'd love to play through Reunion with touched-up versions of the original voice lines, if that's possible. But the new ones definitely work.

To be fair, with everything Zack has been through at that point, why would he be confused about his hair being eaten. I feel like if I were Zack at that point I'd just be done with everything, the soldiers you looked up too all turned out to be psycotic, that the position you finally get into causes you to fall into this strange journey of dealing with their issues while you yourself are trying to live a normal life and have a relationship lol. I mean one thing to keep in mind is the game never really lingers on situations to long, Zack is just doing his job as soldier, rising to the Rank of First Class and then proceeds to be thrown into a situation where he's now the 2nd in command because two of the three soldiers go mad and Sephiroth is conflicted to deal with it because of how close he was to those two soldiers leaving Zack to have to deal with all this baggage while he also has to deal with the fact that his mentor is one of the two who have gone rogue. If anything it's be careful what you wish for, granted it's so conflicting because for Zack, if he wasn't First Class he would of never met Aerith, but again, if he wasn't First Class, then maybe he wouldn't of had to deal with all the tragedy that came for achieving a rank he sought after.

I think the reason New Zack gives off the Abridger vibe is bc it feels more like a comedic delivery (as is common to abridged series) than the gravitas of a game proper. I think I just figured it out, the new VA sounds like he reads most lines as ending with a period. Every question or exclamation sounds like a declaration. It's not even that his voice is awful, though it's still definitely a step down from the original. There's just no character in what he's saying, I can literally see him reading the script as he's saying the lines. It felt like a performance for Rick, while feeling like a paycheck for Caleb.

I like how Genesis in the original, emphasizes the word "abhors" during his dialogue. I know in the context that he is reciting lines from a play, but how he says them gives life. You feel the world threw away him just by emphasizing that word. While in the new remake.. he's just saying it. He sounds like he's trying to be elegant, but it is not working out 😂 And Zack's reaction in the new one, he sounds like that one kid in the back of the class that just hit his purity that just got super annoyed by one person who got a fact wrong. Like, "Umm actually " energy. It sounds like I'm complaining, fair enough, but I can't help but to laugh at this because I can't unhear this from my head 😂 Their voices for Zack and Genesis could've performed a whole different character, but not these two *EDIT*: This is my first time in their world of Final Fantasy besides 16, and I just heard his voice from Intergrade (and the Rebirth trailer), going to play that soon, but his voice actor's performance sound far better than he did here.

He doesn't sound too bad in all those scenes. But Rick Gomez did an amazing job, its hard to live upto. The issue is as well, there are ALOT of pepole who work on these teams for voice acting, it's not just him, he had to audition, they had to do multiple takes, there are multiple people there listening in. So idk if they're all on meth or something. cause 7R voice direction and actors were all really good.

Ive never played the OG crisis core but I love the performance of every single clip I’ve seen of the OG game. It’s one of those video game performances that I’m confident you can get a feel for the character just from the performance alone. In this case, from the OG clips, I’ve been able to pretty much tell that Zack is an upbeat, optimistic protag. He’s confident but not cocky. He’s pretty much cool without trying and he can say lines like “Me? Gongaga!” With a straight face and I’d half buy it. The other half, I’m laughing. The new guy… again. I haven’t played the OG Crisis Core but… this just doesn’t feel like how Zack is supposed to be. Correct me if I’m wrong. He’s saying all the things Zack said in the OG in all these clips but… still. I just ain’t feeling it…

I get that we all try to find our voice but man dude could hardly hit the mark more often then when he actually hit it on certain scenes which was rare. In the end we were given all knew voice actors for characters and at least everyone from Remake hit the mark. But I’m disappointed that Zack, (who I actually favor more then Cloud as a FFVII character) didn’t hit the lottery in the new VA department the way the new Cloud did.

To be fair, if you switch to the Japanese dub, Zack also has that kind of young shonen voice. I really love Rick Gomez' performance as Zack, very iconic, but I think this is a very Goku-esque scenario where you kind of get used to the different tone of voice. I used to think Goku grandma's voice was weird but now it feels so normal to me. Granted, the new guy (Caleb?) could use more experience, but I've been watching clips here and there and he's not really as bad as his worst reads, overall he's fine. Also, wow, there's no way to make that "ate my hair" line sound natural, good on Rick for kind of landing it.

Caleb was fine in Intergrade, Crisis Core sounds like they only took one take and it shows, Gomez definitely had more experience but Crisis Core was one of his first voice acting roles and he knocked it out of the park

I honestly think it might be the voice direction of reunion that maybe doesn't let the new VA shine as much. So many deliveries are borderline 1 for 1 with the og. After playing Reunion, there were a lot of parts where I thought the new VA was good with his Zack voice. And others that took me out of the experience and made me good "Eh... Could be better..." Another issue could be that the new VA isn't really much a VA by trade. For my understanding they are more of an actor actor. I hope if Zack is more of a hand in the Rebirth that not being pigeon holed with deliveries that he can show off more good Zack voice and dialogue. Cuz I thought he did great in the Yuffie dlc at the end.

Occasionally something is slightly different like the hair eating line but... They really should have rewrote the script to be less awkward and let the actors give their own performance.

Cuz the ending says Continued in FF7 and not continued in FF7 Remake. They seem to like communicating story elements in meta ways like that. Plus who's says the New VAs won't pop up in some other places in the future game of Rebirth or whatever comes after.
