I liked the way you used strengths to help empower her however your body language reads no empathy at all, she started crying and collected the tissue herself, what about how to look forward and progress from her cognitive distortions i.e. her thinking its her fault and having to repress it for all these years? how can she become a social worker and still have that emotional bladder. I don't feel like you have really listened to her well enough, and wasn't really present with her in her pain. sometimes a little silence would help. Focus on building more rapport and trust before referring her to any counselling etc. crossing your legs really created a barrier for me, you seemed guarded as if you was protecting yourself? She just told you she has never told any one, youre the first person shes told, you should have grasped that with both hands instead of telling her to talk to her sister, she didnt come to her sister she came to you, you should be the one to offer to go with her to group therapy All these reports and statistics really wasnt needed to interpret her pain or how she may feel. thats generalising

Vague..distant, no empathy. Horrible! This counselor did not show empathy or relate to her to rellease her from her quilt fast enough! As an abuse survivor, myself, I feel that only those who have been abused can effectively help abused women.

Really? The patient discloses horrific abuse by a step parent and the "social worker" says, "tell me about your sister, are you close?" No. Hell no. That was a totally inadequate response. What kind of "social worker" is this? A licenced counselor? What is the context? Is this a student health clinic? Why would they be speaking to a social worker there while in crisis? Many people in crisis are trauma survivors. They deserve someone who is totally present with them and responds compassionately. Record keeping/data collection can be destructive. Here's an example.

It was a role play, this might have been her first mock counselling, not an actual counselling that took place after the thousand of hours these guys have to do before getting to actually practice

I am sorry but as a Counsellor myself this video does not represent the reality. This counsellor is so cold and lacking empathy or any natural human response to what the client is saying. It is a perfect example how NOT to be as a therapist/ counsellor !

This is a training video and the students are acting out a practice scenario they are probably nervous and being graded for this. Anyway it's not a real situation.
