When I went to the promotion board, CSM asked me, what my future goals was, I said SFC or MSG, he asked why not 1stSgt or CSM, I said that I wanted to stay with the troops and it is what I excelled in and my peers agreed. CSM said, I am with troops daily, I stated I have not seem you before this board, or spoke to you in the 9 months I have been here. Needless to say, he smoked me, score 145. My Plt Sgt said, you just Flocked yourself, i replied , flocking myself for being honest, I can live with.

Amen brother this bureaucracy is going on everywhere. I’m proud of you for speaking up and being honest in my mind that’s a true leader a great NCO. It’s a shame it’s not the best soldiers getting promoted in senior ranks it’s the ones sucking up and checking all the boxes.

Thank you for getting him back on here...the last interview was overshadowed and I really wanted to here more from him. Stuart Scheller wrote out a true analysis of the current issues in his book about the Military. I truly hope military leaders can do as they expect us lower enlisted to do, receive intel and orient upon new objectives. Main news headlines over the weekend discussed recruiting failures across the board and ended the stories with the low reenlistment numbers. Leadership must have the courage to suppress their ego in order to maintain the mission.

Can we all just admit that 99% of all these wars we've had in the last 40 plus years have been for profit. There's a good reason we left all those nice weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan. My Brother is retiring from the military after 25 years all he's done for the last 5 years is a visit with the manufacturer of all the new weapons we're building to go fight our future enemies that we created.. He told me straight up 10 years ago if there's not an enemy out there we will create one and damned if he ain't right

This isn’t just a military issue, this is happening all across all aspects of commerce. It doesn’t matter about performance if you’re a ‘yes’ person and know how to stroke ego’s. It correlates to how much power HR is getting.

Love episodes like these! 1) what y’all say about the problems in the military is 100% accurate. As a SSG I relate with all the struggles 2) Stu is absolutely right especially about Genisis killing us (I’m a recruiter) but that only half of the battle. The first half it’s incredibly harder to get people in the office, the ones we do get knocked out by Genisis. Its harder compared to before

This is great conversation.... I have felt this way for over 10 years. I did 20 and some change in the Marine Corps (92-2012). I loved it. From 92 to 2001 it was just party time and traveling the world. Then by 911 I was a SSgt and while deployments were different they were still super fun..Till they were not so fun anymore..I got promoted to GySgt in 12 years... Then managed to NOT get promoted ever again. Yea, a Gunny for 8 yrs out of 20.. By 2011 Obama was Pres and was turning the Military into a social experiment and the bullshit rules of engagement. From about 2002 to 2010 the Marine Corps was awesome. We were doing what we were supposed to be doing. When we were home we were training and the "bullshit" in garrison kinda went by the wayside. But by late 2010-2011 ex DI's were hanging around the exchange correcting Marines for haircuts and not having shirts tucked in again because they didn't have anything better to do. All the stupid shit I dealt with in the early 90's was making a comeback.... Plus all the changes, I knew it was time to go...Punched out in 2012 just in time I think. The guy that replaced me ended up getting an IG investigation for PT'ing Marines too much and having Marines stand watch. A couple of the Sgt's and a SSgt that worked for me ended up having their careers ruined over it. Over shit I did for 20 plus years. Not any kind of hazing just hard training. Fucking Officers and Sgt's Major, 1stSgts more worried about their next command, promotion, being relieved of command, or their next billet than doing the job they were supposed to be doing... On another note I now live in Ohio.... We need you here in some sort of Office... Semper Fi

I am not a vet. But I grew up during the Vietnam era and saw how the war was fought and have friends that were killed and others that still suffer the effects of the conflict. That war was where the problems you are discussing started. Politicians ran the war then. Now the generals have become the politicians have made it impossible to win a war.

What's ethical is doing your job well. And in the case of the military it's winning efficiently. Last I checked, quick and efficient is the way to dispatch the enemy. And that will never look right on a magazine cover.

As a young guy who is interested in earning a commission, they’re on point regarding the mass-medical disqualification of viable candidates. There’s a real anxiety amongst my peers that a minor/obscure medical issue (that won’t affect job performance) from the past will be an automatic disqualification. People are refusing to go to the doctor for certain injuries because they’re afraid that a recorded diagnosis will kill their dreams.

Hello- appreciated your very interesting and thought provoking discussion. Much respect to you. I'm probably one of your least likely listeners, an old dinosaur rocknroller from the SF Bay area. Also the daughter of a WWII combat survivor. My Dad was in the thick of it in the Army in the S. Pacific. For real. I'm here for some personal reasons, I care about our people, our country and what's going on in the world. Can offer you some perspective. No - you are not murderers. You are warriors. There's a difference. A murderer lacks the depth of understanding of the warrior. Even though you may have dredged through hell there was moral reasoning and high ground as the fundamental basis for it. Hard to find the right words. You weren't there for no reason, or for ego or your own self-aggrandisement. You were there to stand up for our country. There's a huge difference. Perhaps it's important to consider what is meant by "ethics". Before my Dad left for the war, he was given a Christian War Cross by an Episcopalian bishop as sort of a protection and reminder that he was fighting for what was right. He was standing up for life itself by ridding the world of the forces of evil. If you don't have some sense of " ethics", if you win only through brutality and cruelty without regard for the essence of humanity (example, the Holocaust), what are you winning? Will it last? What will be left? What if Hitler had won? Do you think that would have provided for a lasting peace? Think about it. Study history. You are asking important questions. Respectfully, security to the American people does not always mean the bearded f-ing bikers with chains policing the whores of the world. I am one of the women they seek to police. I've been outrunning those idiots for 40 years now. No lie. No joke. My life has been precluded in many ways from fulfilling my potential b/c of this selfish, self-centered bullsh*t that would enslave so many women in our country. Just like you, I am disgusted with such an exercise in futility. This kind of activity does not make our country more "secure". It lines a few pocketbooks at everyone elses expense. Greed is definitely part of the problem. Please don't get me started on Saudi Arabia. I wonder if you've been following the land grab around Travis AFB in California? They tried to stay under the radar until they got called out on it. Now they say they want to build a city around Travis. One of the partners of that egregious endeavor also sits on the board of NEOM, the Saudi project building a city in a straight line in their desert. What's going on around Travis stinks. Though I wish things were different, I have to agree we might be in for some rough going. Where we are at today has dots that connect back to Vietnam. Once again, history is important. Keep studying it. Many of our Vietnam vets faced terrible betrayal, then were treated badly when they got home. This was horribly wrong. But Americans labored under reams of misinformation and lies. The Pentagon papers came out showing how the American public had been lied to. People were enraged. The cross currents of chaos almost tore our country apart. Ah yes - Covid. No guys - I'm not dumb. I'm a retired EMT, studied nursing and worked in healthcare for about 10 yrs. total. I was exposed to Covid early on, almost wound up in the hospital. Now, 3 yrs. later, still suffer from long covid. Difficulty breathing sometimes - etc. I'm a little older and for sure don't need any more problems with it. Vaxxed up one side and down the other. I know it's helped me b/c I've felt it when I was exposed to it again and my body fights it. I know when an N-95 mask has helped me escape infection. I've experienced it first hand. I wouldn't vouch so much for the little surgical masks. They allow some air to be breathed unfiltered. That's why they don't work so well. An N-95, worn correctly, will afford some protection. Think I'm full of crap? Read Capt. Crozier's story about what happened on the Teddy Roosevelt. Talk to some good doctors and nurses who went through this in another form of warfare: our country's ERs. Really hope you guys are doing well now. I'd be interested in a follow up - I'll look for the book.

I love you all lads. I support you and your shows are marvelous. I sincerely and profoundly respect LTC Scheller for displaying the moral courage to speak up and say what we all were thinking, and the consequences be damned. I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the state of affairs of the military as regaled in the "Crisis of Command." Furthermore, I concur that tough questions need to be asked about Afghanistan. Senior officers and senior DOD civilians should be held to account just like the rest of us mere mortals. But I'm afraid, I've got to depart ways on your public health advice. As a paramedic and health professional with a background in zoonotic diseases and public health, I would respectfully argue masks did work. They were not perfect. No one single preventative medicine tool is. However, they did help. Legit peer-reviewed research proves it. A valid argument can be made that our public health messaging to the general public was confusing, often contradictory, sucked and needs to be improved. However, the threat was real and public health measures did need to be implemented to save lives. So, go get thee to your local GP or pharmacy and get your COVID-19 booster. Embrace the suck. May you and yours stay safe.

Currently in the AF. Ive gotten in trouble multiple times from my senior leadership for saying these exact same points about ethical warfare and winning war in general. It drives me fucking insane. Part of me wants to say fuck it and get out but i cant do it in good conscience. The biggest reason we are dealing with these problems rn is because people who think like me, which is most of military still, just throw in the towel and count their days till their contract is over. The beast cant be defeated if all the people who can defeat it arent there to do so.

I was in the Navy prior to the Army. I was a Corpsman with the 24 MEU .. then on the USS Saipan. People do realize how bad the divide is between senior leadership and lower enlisted is. The command master chief really had no influence at all. Officer blew him off right to his face whenever he said something. Officers eat in the wardroom and would t be caught dead with the enlisted. On the flip side of that I was in Iraq with the Army and my West Point graduate company commander was sitting near me after I had to restock my aidbag after some injuries earlier that day. The medic and radio operator always stayed near him even in the rear. They brought field chow out to our FOB and I was a little late. The CC told me to get a plate. After I scarfed it down he told me to get more. There was hardly any left .. but he said it was ok. I did then he went up and scraped the leftovers onto a plate for himself. He waited for all his guys to eat.. and let me have seconds before he got what little was left for himself. You’d never see that in the Navy

Far be it for me to add some Clarity to this Discussion. But I come from an older Era that being the The mid 1980's to the Early 1990's and was deployed during the first Persian Gulf War, with SBU-24. We understood the difference between ' Killing ' and Murder. I have seen that awareness in Military Personnel decrease after the First Persian Gulf War, especially at the Senior Military Leadership Level. Those Who have never been in the Military and have been in the position to kill an enemy will never understand it. So don't be surprised that Politicians who have never been in the Military to understand it. From what I have seen and heard the ' Warrior Ethic ' of protecting your People is almost completely absent in Modern Times with the exception of countries that have recent experience with Autocratic and Tyrannical Government that mistreat people. And to your point about A.D.D. I had A.D.D. when I Enlisted in 1984 but I learned to Manage it to the point where I made it through E.T. ' A ' school which at the time had a program that was designed by MIT. SO A.D.D is not the problem that Scientists and other's think it is. And get this, I have actually Cured my PTSD with a song I wrote. And I have used said song on other People and it has worked for them too and I have written testimony that it does work. I also have come up with Solutions to the Power Grid problem etc. I am in the process of starting a business to roll these solutions out to the Public. So where am I at ?. I am in Albuquerque, NM. So let me know when you will be in Albuquerque, NM and Where you will be and I will find you and I will bring my DD-214 and other documents that prove my Identity. This is important because from what I am seeing only Military Veterans can fix the mess that our Government has created. Honestly we the Veterans must because only we can.

This evaluation is right, although it is an evaluation from bottom up. Your missing key information to make a proper evaluation for a reason.

The same that happened to him happened to me back in 2018. The difference is he was an O5, I was an E6.

And it's not ludicrous,it is totally by design that the military is like this... compartmentalised so nobody really knows who's pulling the strings..

I’m in the National Guard and special treatment the promotion system and privilege of the higher ranks is horrible. People are getting awards and promotions for people pleasing and politics!

Maybe the plan is to purge the most skilled for the homeland fight, and send the new slaves imported to the slaughter. Tactics matter in a end game scenario

The problems spoken about here are endemic in probably all western militaries these days. Its causal root I would say is our civilian populous en mass, being of weaker calibre than those of the World War era's, and not having the stomach for war or loss and that has then filtered through the political class due to elections etc and that has then filtered through to the military as a result. Weak military is a result of a weak civilian populous. Tell me I'm wrong.

I don't know I'm a Brit ,I think the working class still have balls and common sense, but the middle class and ebove I think are the problem, literally they all have it to easy , none of them have suffered or been through shit ,they are so dam sheltered, and cowereds to go aswell, just look at covid . Us workers saw through the bullshit virtually straight away .
