The RENK retarder sound gives me formaldehyde vapor flashback. Over in Seattle, our 3000 series MAN Americanas (SL40102/202) came from N. Carolina with this strong formaldehyde vapor, and the retarders sounded just like your sl200. oh the memories.

It's a 4 speed. Reverse is counted as a speed. Yes it's dumb. Also looks like it has a hi ratio diff instead of standard judging by how quickly it gets going.

It has a medium ratio diff which tops out at just under 90km/h. These have higher horsepower engines than earlier SL200s. Earlier ones with this transmission and axle ratio are super slow.

@@jamesfrench7299 I noticed compared with the Chicago Transit Authority's buses. I recall about six forward gear shifts sometimes when i rode.

@@BossSpringsteen69 was this a MAN bus? Must have been a ZF gearbox. They were an option on MAN buses from the 1980s.
