This is a fantastic release. The presentation and supplements are excellent. I’m glad I put off getting the Blu-Ray for years and finally got it with the 4K copy. Thank you for talking about this release Daisuke, I hope you’re doing well. Please take care and have a great day!

This is one of my all-time favourite films and books as well. I had it on DVD for years, but thanks to your discussion on the film and the supplements I decided to buy this release and I'm really looking forward to dig into these discs and the booklet! Thanks so much for this video and take care, my friend!

Thank you and it was so nice to see you at the livestream last weekend! And thank you for sharing your thoughts on Trainspotting!!!

Thanks for the video, Daisuke. It's always interesting to hear your thoughts on films. Trainspotting has a fantastic soundtrack, the cast is great, but I think Danny Boyle's direction is the real star of this movie. I particularly liked the way the toilet scene and Renton's overdose were visualized. Having Renton literally sink to the bottom during his overdose was really clever.

Hey Daisuke!! Hope ypu are well my friend!! I was almost as excited for your take on this movie as I was for the release itself. Being a native of Scotland who lived in Edinburgh in the mid 90s means this film has special meaning and relevance for me. This film captures the zeitgeist of (more late 80s when the book was set than the mid 90s) The characters depicted here all existed around this time and sadly for decades to come. The film feels like the antithesis of the mid 90s 'cool britannia wave' and captured UK society almost too perfectly. I adore this soundtrack so much. The only issues I have with this release was no UK release so I had to import to Scotland. Also the packaging isint a great choice for me, the Artwork is nice but the fragile packaging is a real turn off. Lobe how they managed to keep the soul of the book alive. The Welsh book is highly recommended but is written in Edinburgh dialect, which may be inaccessible for most people. Keep up the great work my good friend!!, Regards Michael.

I was a 22-year-old Britpop fanatic when I saw Trainspotting in the theater and it felt like the film was made just for me. I loved the soundtrack, wardrobe, locations, cinematography, performances, editing…it was truly a thrilling experience. I met Robert Carlyle in 2010 at the Gemini Awards (Canada’s Emmys) and it was the highlight of my year. I wanted to buy Begbie a pint, just so he could throw it over his shoulder lol! Great discussion as always, Daisuke.

Excellent coverage. Thank you, Daisuke. I was fortunate to see Trainspotting in the theater. My first memory of it was how fresh it felt. I imagine some of that is lost now but at the time it put a spring my step. Later I read the book which I also liked a lot. It's impressive how, as you noted, the filmmakers were able to narrow the focus while still being respectful of Welsh's novel. Cheers!

I couldn't be more eager to pick up this release! I'm very excited to hear you dive more into this film as well, as it is one of my favorites- so I couldn't be happier that they've brought Trainspotting into the 4k collection. I feel like this one goes perfect with La Haine too. Both stylistically off the wall with filmmaking that carries such a ramped up energy that never fails to get my blood pumping.

The packaging also reminded me of Vinyl records, not because of the size, but the material is all made out of cardboard like vinyl record packaging. And I like that it has almost no plastic, literally the only plastic in this edition are the disks. I don’t know if Criterion went eco-friendly with this edition or what but I love it!!!

Incredible film! Was lucky enough to see it when it was first released. How about a video just on movies you think should be part of the Criterion collection? 3 of my picks - Diner (1982), Velvet Goldmine (1998) & 20th Century Women (2016)
