Hey gr8 video, as it stands today the knowledge of the emotional, cognitive and physiological side effects of neuroleptics are pretty much well recognized by a minority of healthcare professionals and researchers such as yourself. Unfortunately there isnt much info on how to deal with these consequences and reverse the side effects once you have been on antipsychotics. To add fuel to the flame these adverse effects tend to be more pronounced in people who werent actually paychotic or mentally ill and are now dealing with an actual chemical imbalance due to medical malpractice. It would be really helpful if you could make a video on that topic and how to regain the cognition and personality that these drugs have taken away.

I was put on seroquel for “sleep” & “mood stabilization” I told the attending it was not working, as I had not slept in multiple days. He said he “could increase the dose” & then discharged m immediately after that

It’s so great we have to ship them with antidiabetic medications attached (metformin). There are some really low hanging fruits to pick in psychiatry in terms of the treatment resistant patients. They can make men pseudo lactate too which is ….. pretty cool. But I think in patient hospitals just go with way too high of doses that the amount just isn’t sustainable due to the side effects (they are close to or slightly above maximum effective dose)

Saying they treat psychosis is kind of like saying they treat anorexia.

I had a horrible psychiatrist, (and was with him for years,) “stabilized” on two 500 mg Depakote Delayed Release Tablets every night, (for which he NEVER had me do blood work for, I only know now, that I switched providers, how problematic that is,) and two Quetiapine 400 mg tablets every night as well. I was also prescribed Fluvoxamine 50 mg tablets TID, Generic Suboxone 3 mg a day, and Vyvanse 30 mg. Now that I’m seeing a new psychiatrist, I’m finally doing the proper blood work to monitor for Depakote Toxicity, and I’ve been switched from a rather ridiculous dose of Seroquel, to 10 mg of Olanzapine, nightly. She’s also raised my Fluvoxamine dose to 100 mg BID, Vyvanse dose has stayed the same, and I got a MUCH NEEDED increase on the Suboxone, to one 8 mg film in the morning, and one 8 mg film at night.

That's the problem w/the mental health system. Meds r often a 1st/only resort of "treatment" instead of a last resort. In conjunction w/that; meds r often prescribed w/o regard 2 adressing & resolving the triggers that caused the so-called "symptoms". Yup; so much easier 2 medic8 than communic8.

A Psych Nurse; thanks 4 luving my comment. Also; let it also b known that insulin is NOT ALWAYS THE 1ST/ONLY RESORT (I.E.: MANDATORY) in treatment 4 diabetes. I only mention that bc the majority of mental health personnel (not u; thank GOD) luv comparing mental health conditions 2 diabetes RE: treatment (e.g.: "Taking Zyprexa 4 Bipolar Disorder is the same as Insulin 4 Diabetes."). Nothing's so further from the truth. The difference btwn psych meds (including antidepressants) & insulin is that the latter (diabetes) does address & resolve a nutritional imbalance. Psych meds, on the other hand, r primarily used 2 "control" what some call "unruly" & "inappropriate" behavior but it's often done as "punishment". After all; when some1 regains control after being given psych meds, has the issue that TRIGGERED the "misbehavior" been addressed & resolved? No; it really hasn't. Hence; my original comment from above. That's been my personal experiences w/psych meds. Hence; my mention as such.

I suffer from bipolar 2, imsomnia and severe panic attacks. I've never been psychotic. So why do psychiatrists always precribe antipsychotics?? They don't help at all and I get awful side effects. I don't understand this at all, it's a completely waste of money, time and my life.

anti psychotics is for mania, unless you're one of those who got bipolar as the default skin diagnosis

en; it wasn't the skipped dose that caused ur heart issue. It's the "by-product" (i.e.: adverse/side effect) of Risperidone/Risperdal itself that caused it. The heart-pounding that u experienced could b considered as an involuntary movement as Risperidone/Risperdal is known 4 its numerous & harmful effects.

yeah this is fair--I actually did think about that. After I made the video and tentatively titled it as such, I was like, "did I actually provide any alternatives?" But then I couldn't think of another fitting title. Open to suggestions :). I think for now I'm going to title it: "Critical perspectives on antipsychotics."

@@A_Psych_Nurse I thought that u provided reasonable alternatives RE: psych meds but the original title may not have reflected that aspect. W/that said; the retitling of the feature sounds more appropriate.
