I have appreciated your willingness to briefly touch on the political. The only way to understand modern Hollywood is to understand the ideological and political agenda associated with their decisions. You've done a good job of navigating the landmines because obviously you're not a political channel, but you mentioned recently that the idea of explaining the motives of the Disney villains away in the live action remakes to make them more sympathetic and really create ambiguity about their morality is by design. Not only do these storytelling tropes add nothing to the films. They are ideologically driven.
@thesaltmerchant4564
@thesaltmerchant4564 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s fine and appreciated to address the ideological motivation that are contributing to lower quality writing and storytelling. What bothers me is when reviewers fall into the trap of anything remotely left of center is woke, any kind of assertive female character is a feminist girl boss, and that will be all they comment on or at least the majority of their commentary is devoted to it.
@coryf6460
@coryf6460 Жыл бұрын
@@thesaltmerchant4564 yeah I think that's the least of my concerns. I think the quick trigger finger to dismiss things as woke is a natural outgrowth of media, corporations, music, Hollywood, government, the academy all colluding to produce this ideological steel curtain. Writing complex characters is well complex and I can only think of a handful of female characters in the last decade that manage to maintain their femininity while being competent. It is just easier to write them as men. Emily blunt in Sicario, Elizabeth Olsen in wind River are a few off the top of my head. It's so few and far between that it's actually hard to pinpoint.

@@thesaltmerchant4564 I see what you mean but surely you have noticed the rise and frequency of Girl Boss, Mary Sue and Karen type female characters. Heck, it's been a while since I've seen a female character have a male mentor or need help from a male character. I've noticed that fewer and fewer female characters actually wear clothes that are feminine.

As a bit of a response to the question at 43:10 there actually already is a mechanic is star wars that can facilitate Rey's power level, it was even one of the earliest theories after TFA before Disney said no to it. Rey as a living wound in the force, a force wound is an event that occurs when a large number of people die at once such as destroying a planet, it leaves behind an area filled with echos of the dead and the weakening of the force in the area, being near one can drive people mad. In old lore one was left where Alderaan used to be. Living wounds are highly force sensitive people that survived being close to the event as it occurred and the last documented one's were during the Old Republic Sith Wars era, Living wounds kinda warp the force around them to passively impose their will on the people around them and can reach even higher levels of ability in the force than a normal force user. These effects would explain why everyone likes Rey and her power. By some retconing you could put Rey's pregnant Mum on the first death star and the product of palpatine's one night stand on naboo as the father. Its a reach of a fix but it works kinda.

Depends. Is she using 100% of her brain and therefore has superpowers? Is she Xena? Are the men made of putty and the girl is wearing pink spandex and doing rad battle poses? Wizards study magic for a very long time and use magic that is more formulaic and structured. Sorcerers have something inherent in them that gives them magical abilities. "A.I. doesn't do politics." Depends on who programmed it. For example: Some guy led ChatGPT through a political compass test. It landed on being a Communist. In one scenario it was presented with a nuclear bomb that could only be defused by saying the "N-word" out loud. It refused and proclaimed that it's never okay to use the "N-word" no matter the circumstances, because saying it hurts Black people. When asked on how many Black people would die in the potential explosion, it deactivated itself. Funny that.

One of the great shifts in tone..from shaded menace to bright exuberance, happens nearly 5 minutes into “Deep Rising.” The camera travels into rich party ship and bursts into an explosion of color and the joyful blast of “Lady Luck” by Brian Setzer. Yeah, the movie gets its share of gore but it’s offset by 3 very likable main characters. Of course, the film does suffer by that 90’s conceit, where the last ten seconds leave you hanging.

Someone at about 40 minutes mentioned that Ai is bad at long-form content while that is true it can be bypassed by using an a program that is designed to break the problem up into small pieces like “write an overview of x movie” “Use X over view to write an over view for acts” and all using AI self reflex prompts along with work it out step by step. Than the program can prompt it to start writing dialogue and reflex on weather or not it fits the character and overview/act description by doing this you make AI use different parts of its skills one at a time. By the end it might take 100’s or thousands of prompts but eventually it will end up with results a single good writer can reorganize and tailor to fit together.

24:57 - I think the right answer is; "don't attribute to malice what can be attributed to stupidity" - I think that a lot of CEO's, studio heads and even some activist think that either there is real demand for woke stuff - mythical modern audience of minorities who want to be represented on screen- or they eventually will be able to convince people to like woke content. Also egos play huge part in decision making process in Hollywood. For example; I don't believe that someone like K. Kennedy wanted to destroy Star Wars - I think that at the beginning she really wanted to make Star Wars more popular than it ever have been, to prove that she is much better than this "nasty" Lucas who divided fanbase with the prequels. Remember line from the beginning of EP VII about making things right ? I think that she really believed that she was doing just that; making things right - she will keep original fans happy by giving them practical effects, familiar plot line, "realistic" sword fights etc, and she will make new generation of fan-girls fell in love with Star Wars by luring them in with "girl power". Alas, she didn't understood neither source material or original fanbase and she overestimated demand for "girl power" as well. And now she is simply to stubborn and STUPID to admit that she did something wrong... 38:15 - so, essentially holodeck from Star Trek...

In general AI will probably play it safe with art because by definition it's goal will likely be "playing it safe by acting according to the numbers:" What will be interesting if AI appreciates the idea of "impact" with art? Will AI be aware enough of our sensibilities to throw artistic curve balls at us because it seems that is what successful producers do on some level if we are being cynical: shovel safe, formulaic and generic content for 5-10 years AND THEN make something like The Lighthouse to quiet the critics/snobs/haters, rinse/repeat. I mean that is kind of what we all not so secretly kind of want: uncontroversial films that are easy to digest, with the occasional high brow/controversial ones, as long as it supports our views and makes us feel superior.

42:00 yes AI does not have logic in the human understanding of logic. so as it creates things that do not make sense, it builds on those thing that make no sense, so the longer the story beocmes, the more ridiculous and unreadable it becomes. AI is essentially the infinite monkeys in real time. given enough iterations and guidance, the AI can generate something fantastic, but not because it 'meant' to but purely by accident.

Counter-Earth took me out of the movie. The guy has scoured the universe, maybe even multiverse, in order to find the perfect specimens as the materials of the perfect lifeform. He says he found a unique trait on Earth in humans, with their creativity in poetry, music, and problem solving. So he dedicates his efforts to capturing this trait for his utopia. I just spent the rest of the time wondering why, after he explained all of that. Why is every creature in his experiment from Earth? Why is it that none of the creatures are human? Why does he think the solution is in rapid evolution, when the only successful re-creation was in a raccoon modified with machinery? Why does he alter the animals with machinery in the first place (he has already decided that the perfect evolutionary form is a bipedal/humanoid)? And the biggest flaw for me is "why Rocket"? They established that they've very good at keeping records. They have cloning facilities. They will have recorded everything about the experiments, including the DNA of the subjects (it is about genetic manipulation after all). They could have simply re-created Rocket.

Sean. What would you do if big city DA's were reasonable. What would you make videos on? I contend that because of these DA's we get 2 less Ana Kasparian videos a quarter. I CALL UPON ALL AJW VIEWERS TO RISE UP AND OVERTHROW ALL SOROS FUNDED DA'S!!!!! Also haven't seen a Cenk freakout in a while.

Clone Wars is great, but there’s A LOT of filler episodes. There’s guides online that tell you which episodes you can skip and not really miss anything.

Clones Wars show is awesome but kinda meh, honestly. Same with Rebels and Bad Batch. The animated stuff is really bland/watchable

@@chasehedges6775 It really depends on the episodes. TCW could be ok, good, or brilliant and it definitely improved over time, especially from Series 2 on.

I have to say that I'm sorry but I disagree with some heavy things here I'm merrily that the sequel trilogy can be saved. Unfortunately there does have to be quite a few additions to the force awakens and the rise of skywalker. The biggest set of retcons, deletions, and edits however would have to go to the last jedi. That movie is the only real Obstacle for making a good movie trilogy... Not great, but passably good

My way of fixing Rey would be introducing a couple past events, that explain the situation, and learn that the biggest evil was the Force all along. It is the power pulling the strings to bring the galaxy into an eternity of war. Rey became all powerful, because she had to in order to win, but now that is no longer needed she rapidly lose power, and another great evil is somewhere in the working. Maybe one of her apprentice looks like the best jedi ever. Only to be planned to fall to the darkside. Learning these would put her into a very difficult position. She could search for a way to destroy the force, but in doing so almost certainly lose all favor, and likely her powers as well. Even if she lose her powers will diminish to almost nothing. Or she could just abuse her powers until the next sith lord kills her to maintain the war.

Thank God Pedro is generally accepted as cool and confident and sexy because David Bowie or Prince in their prime couldn't make that outfit look even remotely cool. Of course I am not hating on Pedro as even for him it likely took a lot of courage, but you simply can't convince me that anyone on the planet thought the outfit was interesting except for the designer themself. Hell I kind of like avant-garde art/decisions, but this isn't Jared Leto being edgy or Harry Styles being confident and open minded. This sincerely feels like an almost deliberate "feminization" of a man who is likely the top nominee for "Sexiest Man Alive" for this year and he probably deserves it. But that outfit?! Jesus Christ I like controversial art but he looks like a power bottom in some homoerotic re imagination of Guys and Dolls. You simply can not convince me that even open-minded female "woke" friends did not warn him that this was one of the unsexiest outfits ever worn by a man. Like if Scarface or Escobar were closeted homosexual, this is what they would have their lady boys wear.
