The part people seem to always ignore, is that Valkyrie became a literal slaver...she took people as slaves and sold them. But that's totally cool and can be king now.

I don't really feel comfortable with being exclusionary with fantasy stuff, the racial makeup can be whatever as far as I'm concerned just keep politics out of it. Real world politics doesn't apply to middle-earth, asgard, etc. I get that traditionalists wanna keep things as originally conceived, but you're talking about perspectives that are decades or centuries old. There needs to be some concessions to make it relatable.
@gman74972 жыл бұрын
@Kermit with an AK not at all, I watched all the LoTR films and they make me bawl eyes out, they're amazing films and I don't NEED to have PoC in them to make them good. What I'm saying is that having one or two diverse characters in this series will not destroy it, especially since we don't even know the context of anything. Maybe the elf guy has Easterling blood or something. I'm just saying we shouldn't have a hair trigger response every time we see a colored person in a fantasty or sci fi film. I understand the concern about wokeness and politics and I don't want to be preached to either, but I also don't want it to get to a point where we become completely intolerant of ANY diversity in films at all. I think the concession would be less for myself and more for people who identify with racial makeup more strongly. I understand that it shouldn't matter but it realistically it does to many people. You can have a slight nod to it and still hold true to the essence of the story, imo. We all need to stop being so hard line about everything and give just a little or none of this stuff will ever get fixed. If the series becomes all about identity politics and soapbox shit, I'll be the first to call it out. But just the addition of a couple minority characters shouldn't be a deal breaker, in the absence of any other information.

1:20:30 Yes, you can get a black powder rifle in the UK. We can in fact get a LOT of guns (e.g. regular rifles), for the most part just nothing automatic and no pistols (unless they are breech loaded). The process to get them is a bit of a pain though, including a face to face interview with (if I recall correctly) your local chief of police, you must buy (and bolt down) and use an approved gun locker (which is required to be accessible for police inspections with (I believe) no advanced warning), ammo must be stored separately (and just as secure)... it goes on. We can get em, but nobody can be arsed to do so... we just don't have a gun culture here.

@BuckyKronk2 жыл бұрын
You gotta love how Tony Todd's Jake Sisko sacrificed his life so Captain Sisko could return to be a part of young Jake Sisko's life, then Benjamin disappears at the end of the show anyway. The script originally called for Captain Sisko to go be a god permanently and they actually filmed it that way at first with his final conversation with Kasidy Yates. It was only after Avery Brooks the next day or two called the producers and voiced his discomfort with the implications of an absentee black father that they changed it to allow for the possibility Captain Sisko would one day return.
@dionysislarson63522 жыл бұрын
@@BuckyKronk Indeed I do. Mr. Todd did it wonderfully. Actually, just picturing the scene again is bring a little moisture to my eye. I didn't know that about Mr. Brooks though. That sounds like too much like a 90ties/American idea of things. I'm perplexed by the idea of it. Probably because I'm not American. hahahah Yeah, that might be it. I'm surprised that the producers/writers just didn't tell him that there are no more Black people in the 24th cen., or something like that. But, I'm also perplexed by the use of the word, 'Absentee'. From my understanding, that word is used for young students in school, but not for adults. But I can understand the word Absent and I still can't understand that in terms of a family dynamic. But then again, Americans use a myriad of words strange to me. But just taking the base premise, (and if I got it right (ahahah!!!)), Mr. Brooks didn't like the idea of Jake being around without his dad. What's wrong with that, I must ask. The majority of families are 'absent' a mother or a father. HAHAha Perhaps Mr. Books still had that episode with Mr. Todd still going through his head when Mr. Todd said, "I'm doing this for the boy I was. He still needs you.". Damn, that was a powerful scene! Anyway. By the end of the series, Jake is a man himself. He was a war reporter behind enemy lines. He was in battle with Dr. Bashir. He had sex with a myriad of alien Chicks. He lived on his own with Nog. Hell, he was his own man. I wouldn't think of Capt. Cisco as an 'absent "Black" father', but that Jake was his own man and that sometimes, members of the older generation die. I don't think that it mattered though, because the series finally was excellent no matter! But I am happy that the producers/writers listened to Mr. Brooks. Not for the reasons he was concerned for but for the following books. Take care and have a good one.
@BuckyKronk2 жыл бұрын
@@dionysislarson6352 "Absent" might have been the better word. Hopefully without getting myself banned by KZbin, the statistics of households that have both a father and a mother among black families in the U.S. are not good. Avery Brooks was uncomfortable playing a role in furthering this stereotype on screen. I can get where he's coming from, and don't care for having Sisko leave forever from a story standpoint either. As I understand it, Sisko returns in the relaunch novels.

@@dionysislarson6352 Also, bear in mind even though Jake was an adult, Kasidy was pregnant with Sisko's second child. So there lay the crux of the matter, and Brooks' dissatisfaction with it. Sisko would be skipping out on raising the second child if he left forever at that point.

@Chubby-chinZamboni2 жыл бұрын
This was my take on the batman theme.... The Batman theme is a two-tone melody. Two tones meaning it consists of only two different pitches. They are a major third apart. At times played by just a piano - but more often played bombastically by an orchestra featuring the brass section. In action sequences, it was essentially a march - heavy and cyclical. Like a dark armored figure emerging from the shadows, you can hear the weight of each unrelenting step towards you with each note.... I think the musical symbolism is pretty clear. Cool concept - but the idea has been done before for a certain well-known villain. Darth Vader. And of course, John Williams's Vader/Imperial March from Empire Strikes Back. I will refer to it as Vader's theme. Incidentally, the first part of Vader's theme lays over the two tone theme from The Batman quite nicely. This is because the intro to Vader's theme, which is sort of like a thematic preparation, has the strongest musical similarities to The Batman theme, rather than the multi-intervaled and chromatic theme that follows. Both execute the major third interval on the 4th beat of each measure as well. They have different energies for sure, but I think the similarities between the music and the screen presence of Vader/Batman (or perhaps "Vengeance" would be more appropriate for my case) are apparent. I made the connection upon the first hearing of The Batman theme. Also, it is worth noting that Vader's theme was orchestrated by Williams for harp as well with the theme slowed down and coming off more somber than threatening. See what I'm getting at? I wouldn't go so far as to claim The Batman's theme to be plagiarism or creatively bankrupt. But I do think that ultimately the theme is too minimalistic...and unfortunately, evocative of a much better theme. All of that unsolicited opinion aside, I enjoyed my packed showing of this movie and would like to catch it again.

The thing about Ripley was that the film was made during the Carter years (1977 - 1980) which were very lean times. There were huge shortages and long gas lines. The character was originally written as male but they took a chance of making them female. It opened to mix reviews and the top ctitics of the time, Siskel & Ebert later revised their lukewarm response to the film and came to consider it one of scifi's best. It was basically borne out of adverse times and has endured, thats why Ripley often gets top billing when lists of strong female characters get mentioned.

Stalin kept the real Russian army with equipment and training out of the battle of Stalingrad except as artillery support from the east side of the city. Conscripts with zero military training from the Ural mountains and Siberia were moved to Stalingrad by train cars and marched into interlocking fields of German machine gun fire to run Gerry out of ammo. Once the Germans were out of gasoline, diesel, water, food, firewood, ammo, grenades, and crystal meth they began to walk back to Berlin. At this point the Russian army got involved and pursued Gerry all the way home. Using German bullets to kill Russians from Siberia and the Ural mountain range where the Tzars could never control the populaces is not brilliant strategy or "heavy lifting" it is the beginning of the soviet purge. Please try and remember that Stalin killed more Russians after WW2 than the Germans did during WW2.
