Ashley's said a few times that Yasha's only 5'11". But the rest of the cast keeps forgetting because she's a thicc, strong af warrior. Fjord and Caduceus are taller, but she's far scarier. Best to let her have the flowers.
@dig86344 жыл бұрын
@@sybariticcupboardrat3763 I wonder if that's still considered canon. I know Ashley keeps saying it, but everyone else, and I mean everyone else, acts as if she is taller. Most of the fan art depicts her as such, and most of the RP depicts her as such, so is Ashley's statement fact anymore? I think they should just change the character sheet to reflect the mental image most people have, especially since none of the cast seems to keep it straight. If it ever actually matters at some point, it's better that they get it right by "being wrong" and following their mental image, than getting it wrong because they are sticking to the sheets rules-wise and the mental image RP-wise.

And in the back is a blue tefling with a single blade cloaked in a tattered platinum dragon tapestry being nursed back to health. Not knowing his name or origins, but just being greatful to these youngsters that show him such humanity in his time of need from the simple word given by the graying old man that runs the shop. The old man speaks of days when he would of robbed a place like the very shop he now runs, but was forced onto a kinder path. Giving the tattered tefling a cup of tea and a wink "let me fill your pockets with a bit of gold and food so you can find that path my friend"

Yes, it is always nice catching up on the bandit troupe, even if there wasn’t any panting. Also it’s interesting how Caleb will be simply happy as an ape. Crush and give a nuggie to Beau last time, ransack a camp and take a bearskin ‘hat’ now. I think that’s the only times he is actually happy himself (he is proud and happy for others when they have something good result, but it’s for/about that other person and situation).

Unlike her mother " *The* Ruby of the Sea ", her father " *The* Gentleman ", her patron " *The* Traveller ", and her team " *The* Mighty Nein ", who are all the definitive article. I think she qualifies for the same. Also, note that this comment was placed several weeks ago and some *spoilers* have changed things since. I think that "The Jester" is more of a title perhaps, akin to "Arch Bishop" or "High Priest". I can see many ways that Laura could combine that with the snooty side of Jester in talking to people that she deems to be beneath her (so, the rich and powerful) Edit: formatting

These are trops not acting. She gets a story in her mind and runs with it because that's all she sees. Don't believe me? How come it took Laura's character to tell Beau that she thinks her dad is telling the truth after a great insight check? And after that there wasn't any real reason to get mad at her father so she decided to get mad at his deal with the witch: which hasn't been shown to be a negative deal for her father or family in any way but Marisha only knows "angry", "air-headed" and "serious" so she went with "angry"....again. There's no depth to Marisha's characters: hurt little kid gets handed the keys/power to the kingdom and everyone has to rush in and save her from herself/tell her how strong she is. Yeah, that smells fishy to me. If Matt weren't the DM, that would've just been a wild goose chase from Marisha/Beau. Also, Beau has changed her story on her "Last night in Kahmorda" because when she first described, she conveniently forgot to mention her dad being physically abusive, but didn't forget to mention that he was a strict asshole who didn't let her do anything, despite her openly admitting to being a fucking criminal that put her family in danger time and time again. I get that she's supposed to be a rebellious person, but she's just been played as a compulsive liar who never wants to be forgotten until it's the best way for her to get attention (spoilers for the next episode, Beau *randomly* offers her very existence and name to the Hag for Nott, even though that's such a far reaching effect that would overshadow Nott's curse being broken and uselessly remove Beau from the campaign, which is why ~~Matt~~ The Hag almost immediately turns it down.) She only makes the offer because Marisha thinks it should be about her (despite them being there for Nott specifically) because "her dad was a dick" (which magically turns into an abusive asshole at the drop of a hat to add in more investment, you can see Matt fight back against that when he acts as Beau's parents and throws her shitty behavior back in her face and makes her feel as small as she should be feeling especially when you consider she's done almost nothing but lie incessantly about what happened.) Marisha is a pretty cool cat, but fuck does she have a habit of ruining other people's scenes and arcs when she's at this table, and damn does it bother me when it's just to give her attention.
1:16:31 Travis being genuinely concerned for Marisha is the most heartwarming thing. Changing up the seating order has been a great boon for seeing how well all of these people interact with each other, in and out of character.

I just want to take a moment to appreciate this phenomenal roleplay by Marisha,no scene (aside from molly's death) made me cry quite like this,it's just brutal how good this was. From her voice cracking when she believes her dad only thinks she comes around when she wants something (3:40:50) to how she seemed so out of it when Jester talked about how her dad loves her (1:33:30) to that silent "please" with Jester which i think she never said before (3:40:42) it's all so perfect. Beau is such a good character,she is not cartoonish and intentionally likeable,she is real as to how a daughter would hold a grudge against her father and mother. Many ppl hate her and that's fine but no one can convince me Beau is a bad character as much as no one can deny the raw and beautiful roleplay in this episode.

From what I've seen, the majority hate her for being the weakest of the group, not for being a bad character. After watching these fine actors cry for a few years now, ive learned something about their craft. I used to think they could "cry on command", as in, fake cry for no reason. However now i know that actors are just have deep empathetic connections to their roles. They are real tears, because they are feeling the emotions of their characters, and are letting them lose. Its probably a skill we all can learn (me as well), if we didn't spend so much time stifling showing emotions to others
@bigdream_dreambig4 жыл бұрын
It's one of the reasons why the best actors can also be emotionally fragile people. They learn how to pull down those "walls" to expose honest, intimate emotion, but then find themselves with inadequate protection in their real-world lives. If they don't have a strong support system or healthy coping mechanisms, they can be at risk.
@Kirayni4 жыл бұрын
It's not hard on itself, but it can be dangerous on your psyche if you maintain those roles (for example, doing a play where you're playing a character with depression or any sort of deep emotional show for a long time) can really fuck you up. While you're acting you don't realize that it's not "you" who's crying, you're just deep into character and going with the flow, specially in improv, and it's a really draining exercise (both physically and mentally). I had to leave theater classes because of it, my classmates would push me into always angry or sad characters and it was just too much to handle
@chrisrudolf98394 жыл бұрын
True. Deeply emphatizing with your character and imagining you were her is how this works, there really is no other way to cry on command convincingly. Well, you could secretly sniff freshly cut onions before a scene to get tears flowing, but your body language just wouldn't be the same. It can be trained to some extent, for some it is hard, to some it comes naturally. I tend to get invested in vivid emotional scenes in fiction, I actually cried myself while watching that.
@rhaegnarok4 жыл бұрын
I suspect like many good roleplayers, they put a lot of themselves into their characters. They can place themselves in that mindset and that story, and also draw on their own experiences to parallel it. Draw out genuine-seeming emotion. A lot of roleplayers whether they'll admit it or not, become attached to their character and invested in their story. And that too is emotional. To me and many others, good roleplay sometimes treads that line of being too absorbing -- you want to be attached and invested, you want to feel something for them -- because its a good story. You wouldn't feel anything if the characters were flat and unconvincing.
@MorinehtarTheBlue3 жыл бұрын
@@rhaegnarok I was about to give you a like until you said genuine-seeming emotion. Travis is not defending him per-say, but he is pointing out that the father was trying to do what he thought was best when in actuality it was not. Parents make mistakes all the time because humans make mistakes. Unfortunately their mistakes can harm a child for the rest of their lives. And to address the psycho part, a single instance of hitting your kid does not mean that it was a regular thing. If it was I would agree with you, but if it's the only instance it was probably a reaction to something beau said to him as she was being dragged to the soul (which doesn't excuse it/make it ok, but context could explain his actions)

Amazing roleplaying from great players even when the spotlight isn't on them.
@Jason-kp4vc4 жыл бұрын
I actually think she didn't mean to do that. My theory is that Marisha was absorbing that scene to know what Beau couldn't have to roleplay it later on, but it accidentally displayed on her face. Initially watching it, it was jarring and reminded me of a C1 spoiler of Keyleth's reaction to a certain marriage. Obviously Beau wasn't there to witness the scene between Jester and The Gentleman so it felt kinda weird. I guess a case could be made that Beau sulked because Jester announced that she was gonna talk to her father, but that doesn't seem in line with her character, of being jealous of what her friends had. My theory would also explain how she used this moment to build up emotions for a great RP scene later.

Oh my god. I think I fell in love with Beau this episode. The family reunion explains so fckin much about her character. It's so hard to understand her situation from the party's perspective because it's more nuanced than what a typical abusive home looks like. They're well-off, polite, and genuinely looks like a happy household. Her mom and dad aren't mean to their guests and claim to love her (despite everything they did) BUT THE SIGNS ARE THERE. It's so subtle but Marisha nailed this roleplay. Beau still has resentment she hasn't fully processed and when she lashes out, it makes her look like an ungrateful child who wouldn't listen to her parents. When it's actually her parents who were ungrateful for their daughter tried to force her into a role she didn't want to be in and never listened to her. And when Beau resisted, they threw her out. Jester was raised by a mom who loved and accepted her for who she is and supported whoever she wanted to be, even the traveller just wants her to do whatever she wants as long as she's happy. It's easy for her to tell Beau to let go of that anger, because she doesn't quite understand it. I love Yasha's parting words with her dad, too. It simplified how they valued their fortune more than valued their daughter. Love the roleplay this episode. Twas on fckin point. 👌

When a household is tense and complicated, such as a business oriented one or the idea of a child that they didn't want, in Beau's case, that can severely impact how that child grows up. Beau grew up in a household that did not accept her right off the bat since birth, and was forced to grow into a position where she was never enough, and she would never be enough. All she had wanted was to do right by her family and by their business, offering to take up the family business, try and expand it, and make her family, her father especially, proud. However, her father had his own complexities, being of the superstitious sort and having the deal with the hag, he was scared of his fortune and his family being ruined if Beau was to pursue such a path. In face of this situation, where she wasn't accepted, wasn't listened to when she had tried a productive path, she saw it fit to try a more grimey one. Going on a path of crime and underhandedness instead, which she had found worked for her. She was making money, she was making connections, and she was learning skills. If you want something done, best to do it yourself, and if being a "poster child" was not working, then why try anymore? She grew up in a house where these expectations that she would never meet were forced on to her, and after realizing this, she had broken off from her family and held resentments and anger towards something that she never had a chance of being able to fix. Marisha plays this character very well, and it shows by the reactions of the audience how well she plays her. Everyone is so angry that Beau lashes out, or is combative and argumentative, or that she "doesn't listen" (which is a lie, she very much listens to those she respects such as Dairon or the Nein, and knows when to hold her tongue such as in the presence of King Dwendal), yet no one realizes that these flaws are so completely human, and normal to have.
